  1. I feel like a person's life experience is an integral part of that person's playing. A picture is worth a thousand words. How many notes is a thousand words worth? I don't have the conversion table. To me, this picture, and many others like it, are worth an infinite number of musical notes. Unfortunately. Am I superficial? I've never felt much from the musical jocks. I think we've all delved into that world a little bit, trying to find the best music we can find. I've never found anything to connect with there. I can't say that I haven't heard ANY of his music. I've heard excerpts of his music, and he is an extremely technical musician. Totally on point. It is the feeling behind the music that misses me. It feels like I'm listening to a clinic. I don't want to disrespect Joe Locke, because who am I? I'm just talking about that feeling you get when you are listening to a virtuoso masturbating in your ear. I'd much rather listen to something with the spirit behind it. Music is many things to many people. We all have a different idea of what it can be. It isn't pictures or sponsors, to me. I was hoping you had heard this album and had a different impression of Joe Locke.
  2. ooooooooooooohhh..... nice. B-)
  3. P.S. Its just too bad you look like a fucking dork. I couldn't resist. That is a funny fucking story... lol
  4. THAT'S what I'm talking about! Jim Alfredson makin' it HAPPEN!
  5. Have you heard this group? Paradigm Shift? I saw Joe Locke's name. I've heard he is an amazing musician, but I'm put off by the pro/sponsored musician stature.
  6. I've been thinking recently that there are just too many CDs being released every week. Seen an issue of Cadence lately? Who are these people and why do they think it is necessary to put out so many albums? The market is so saturated it is daunting. How many music DVDs are released every week? I turned some people on to Mal Waldron this week with the Vanguard DVD and it dawned on me... people like to watch people making music as much as they like to listen. I'm hoping more artists stick their neck out and release live DVDs. I can't imagine the production cost could be too high in this day and age. Burn on demand even... Organissimo, would you guys consider putting out a DVD? It doesn't seem like many of us will get a chance to see you guys live any time soon. I don't have any research, but I think there is an emerging market in this format. I'm not talking about making the next Stop Making Sense. Even studio footage would be nice. Of course, I'm not just talking Organissimo here. Thoughts?
  7. I came across a vibraphonist named Jeff Lash. He lives in St. Louis. I think some of you guys are out there right? Anyway, I've been really impressed with his trio. I don't know that he has anything out on CD (which I deduct Chuck is alluding to as "the ticket"), but this stuff is great. Vibes, bass, drums trio interpreting some unlikely songs that you wouldn't find in the Real Book. Then there are some standards as well, tastefully idiosyncratic. I've emailed him to see if he has considered releasing any legit music, or even video. Anyway, here's the link: Jeff Lash Trio
  8. You got it. Let us know what you come up with!
  9. Alright, alright... Yogi Bear says "Gamela taki gama taki gama Gamela taki taki gama."
  10. I'll be the first to admit, I have no idea what the hell you guys are talking about, and I've been on the board for a while. I can only imagine trying to make sense of these threads as a newcomer. Only Jim could get two pages of responses on a thread like this.
  11. I did a quick search. I was looking for some audio software last week. This seems like a good place to start though! http://www.pure-mac.com/audio.html
  12. I'm glad to see this thread bumped up again. I'll have to pick up that magazine. I'll have to post some thoughts on the new album another time.
  13. Fucking classic b-3er... hilarious.
  14. Before I forget, here is the contact info for Steeplechase US distribution: Stateside distributors tel: 1-888.776 0436 stateside@prodigy.net
  15. I had never ordered from Music Resource. Nice selection!
  16. I've heard that Brad Mehldau Trio does "Bottle Up And Explode" by Elliott Smith (rest in peace).
  17. "MJQ-Lite" Is that a good thing, or a bad thing? I've never been grabbed by the MJQ, although I have new interest in Jackson's playing outside of this group, so maybe its time to check out more MJQ?
  18. Maybe Rahzel the Godfather of Noize could do it. There are probably many beat boxes that could do it.
  19. I was searching for a Milt Jackson discography tonight, and came across this: http://music.com/person/milt_jackson/1/ Seems to be a pre-release page that came up in a search engine. Looks promising.
  20. Man, I don't know about this album. The inclusion of Bryan Carrot makes this a definite purchase. That trio track is killer though!
  21. I've missed this thread somehow. This album makes me sob with joy when I listen to it. It is her honesty. I listen to it in the mornings alot. This music just has such a "real" depth that feels like she is truthfully reaching out to PEOPLE. She's not singing to be hip. She's not singing for the industry to notice. Its a matter of time before Nessa comes in and cuts on all of us for being such weenies.
  22. Thanks for posting this link! This is pretty phenomenal music. I definitely recommend taking some time and checking this out!
  23. I can't believe people are still quarreling about this issue. The Beastie Boys have done nothing wrong, according to the current law, in this situation. Morally, I don't think they have done anything wrong either. I didn't understand the video game analogy, and don't think there really is a good analogy to sampling music. It is a musical device in and of itself that seems to be very misunderstood. Do you guys think it would be ok for the Beastie Boys to perform this material live, with a dj sampling James Newton? Could they charge admission, or would they have to perform for free? Is the issue that their record label released an album to the retail market that has someone else's music on it?
  24. In my opinion, THE Milford Graves album (as of 11/9/04) Thanks for posting the article.
