Thanks for clarifying, Tim. And for possibly putting a sock in the mouths of all the idiots out there who think they know something about ECM.

Using very simple mathematics, which takes nothing into account but the number of days in a four year span!

Cleaver is a drummer's drummer, if you will. He can play anything, and does so expertly. In today's world of music, if a drummer's presence MAKES me want to purchase a recording, it would be his.

The Sex Pistols sign new record deal with Universal

My jump to jazz had EVERYTHING to do with Nirvana and their ilk. Rock was dead for me at that time. Nothing innovative was happening. The only good thing about Cobain in my eyes was that he mentioned "Red" as a big influence. Even if he couldn't play guitar, at least he had the good sense to listen to someone who could. And Shawn, don't get me started on the Ramones. They come from the borough where I grew up in NYC. I saw them several times at places like CBGB's and the like. Fuck three chords. It would be a huge stretch to say that they could play two. They were complete hacks in EVERY sense of the word. They were lucky to hit when they did, when everyone was feeling all disenfranchised and shit! -
Like I said earlier, a chain of custody issue that MLB will do nothing about. Braun's sample had seven times the normal level of testosterone. He's going to get away with this on a technicality / loophole, but he's still guilty and everyone knows it. The guy who took the sample has done this hundreds, if not thousands of times. Don't tell me he doesn't know what he's doing and how you go about ensuring that samples are not tampered with. This is total B.S. (bullshit, not Bud Selig, although the acronyms are interchangeable). Especially since Bud used to own the Brew Crew.

Hey, what's that? Never seen it before! Good, great, essential? (Well, good at least, it's Duke!) Bal Masque was also out as a French cd sometime during the 90s.

diet coke wreaks----i refuse.............. Some of us don't have a choice! FWIW, I like diet PEPSI about 10x better anyway.

That would be huge negatory. Yet nobody seemed to care then. Oh, and you forgot the moanings and rantings of Keith Jarrett, or the dumbing down of high fallutin music by ECM.

Speaking of no bass. Has Berne ever talked about the reason he doesn't use a bass player? His music is pretty busy. Doesn't Noriega cover the low end in this band?

As far as Joachim Kuhn goes, try to find as many of his acoustic trio recordings with J.F. Jenny Clark and Daniel Humair as you can. I'm not sure, but some may be very difficult to find. You can catch up on the previously issued Black Saints and Soul Notes through Cam Jazz's (current owner of these 2 labels) boxed set reissue series. I won't argue against ECM; too much of that goes on here already. I am a fan though. When people say that so and so's sound has been ECMified, I just laugh!

Only remaining past Hats I need are Braxton's Dortmund 1976 and the ever elusive 4 cd Willisau set.

The WSQ box is a worthy purchase AFAIC. It's been a difficult listen though (only one disc at a time for me). The arrangements are interesting, but it's been difficult for me to acclimate to all the parts being played by horns.

There's a late Weather Reporty feel to these first three Giuffres in the Soul Note box. This isn't helped by the feeling that the electric bass player (Bob Nieske) sounds so much like Jaco (contemporaneously, of course). Had never heard these records before, but I kinda like the fact that Giuffre was daring enough to step out of his comfort zone. Bravo to him!

I have it --- pretty sure it's a bootleg.

Chapin's death was a HUGE loss to the world of music. He was a master. I'll second (or third) the previous recommendations for this fine music. I would have purchased this set in a heartbeat, but I've had all of the individual discs (save the one unreleased included in the box) since they were released in the 90s. I can also recommend "Ride", released by Michael Musillami's (check out his recordings as well!) great label Playscape Recordings about 6 or 7 years ago.

Just listened to this. Great record -- one of his best in awhile. I will say, though, that although I'm not a big believer in the scuttlebut that the ECM sound is enforced, the acoustic piano on this album is recorded in such a way so as to give the music more of an ECM feel.

To even mention Carter's hogging of headlines is pointless especially during this time in his life. If anyone deserves to hog headlines, though, it is a player of his caliber. There's nothing worse than a shitty player trying to do same.

I was being over the top, but I think you got my drift, Joel. All I'm saying is that Westchester is no longer that tony little community (where people behave properly) it once was. Believe it or not, I now feel much more relaxed driving in the boroughs than I do here. Most of the time, after a "relaxing" cruise through Westchester, I feel like I need a drink!

I don't believe that it was corrected 40 years ago, as anti-gay crap has run pretty rampant in our great nation right up to and including some of the new millenium. "Common language"? In this country, we already have that and it's called English. Any "health care provider" who needs a book to facilitate communication with me or anyone else is definitely not one worth consulting. IMHO, of course.

I sent a followup email to Hip-O today. About three weeks ago they told me that they hadn't yet heard from the manufacturer as to when the replacement disc would be available. I'll report back if I hear from them.

Gary Camera/Carter wasn't much better, so I can see why BoSox fans would not be terribly happy. You can be that way when you're one of the best catchers the game has ever seen!!! Btw, your comment reeks of very bad timing. You should be ashamed of yourself.
