  1. which reminds me----there are several lengthy detailed articles about zealous federal prosecutors who, at the time, had a hard-on for lay. it's called something like--"the truth about enron". to many, the venom cast upon paterno is vaguely reminiscent of the ken lay witch hunt, while others have no problem with his sandusky responses. Given the circumstances of many hard-working people being left penniless and with the prospect of working until they died, I'd say that the "hard-on for Lay" (no pun intended) that federal prosecutors had was more than FUCKING well justified. See, sometimes a little government intervention IS necessary to keep the pricks in line. With college football, on the other hand, the government didn't do and has never done enough to prevent the knuckleheads of the NCAA from playing a hand in ruining the "youts" of our nation. Guys like Paterno were always pawns in big money college sports programs, and they drank the kool-aid.
  2. and I'm afraid most professional football players would've ended up working there.
  3. No -- first on this cd in 1988: http://allmusic.com/album/sharp-edge-r159961
  4. As I've mentioned many times before, Joe Pa's long list of offenses began well before he even met Sandusky. I don't mean to sound like a holy roller, but his ultimate day of atonement has come.
  5. That's one way to escape. Thanks for showing everyone the kind of person you are. I feel no need to justify what I said. Back off, Dan, and grow up. One comment does not a person make.
  6. That's one way to escape.
  7. Well, what difference does it make? They certainly know now!!! Ah well - the recent gaffe in the Universal France Ella box was fixed within days... doesn't make much of a difference, it's just a bit weird since the box has been out quite a while. That's all I wanted to say. I hear you. Hip-O/Verve/Universal messed up on one of the discs in the Coltrane Vol.5 Impulse Albums collection. They've been promising replacement discs for months now. Still nothing. Also, they show absolutely no consistency. They messed up one of the discs in the recent Getz 3 cd collection. Instead of offering replacement discs, they decided to provide a free download of the missing track. Go figure. The ship be sinkin'!!!
  8. Well, what difference does it make? They certainly know now!!!
  9. Replacements due in 6 - 8 weeks according to an email I received directly from someone at Cam Jazz.
  10. If you're gonna go that rout, how 'bout Miles replacing that sorry ass MF Chris Botti in B.L.U.E.?
  11. While I certainly won't be buying the complete sets, I do recommend the George Duke - 'Brazilian Love Affair' album (70's Flora Purim) and the self-titled Stanley Clarke album (similar to Corea/RTF efforts of the mid-70's era with some grandeur, rather than the Clarke/Duke mindless funk that came soon after). Judas Priest? You're on your own there. I won't be buying the Judas Priest anytime soon, or in my next million lifetimes Nor the Duke. But I am thinking about the Stanley Clarke.
  12. Don't know how much interest these will attract here, but there are 3 more "complete" boxes available on the Pop Market site now: http://www.popmarket.com/features/25809191
  13. This kind of stuff has been happening for a while now. When will Selig put his foot down?
  14. Did I miss something? Have we established that soggy weather favors a good running game? You're a Jets fan; I'm sure you remember the game I referenced above.
  15. The cult of Grachan Moncur III I could understand... Better yet -- the Three Sounds!
  16. It's more the cult of Blue Note.
  17. Theoretically the team with the best running game, therefore San Fran. I believe the opposite is true. Don Shula shut down Freeman McNeil in 1982 by ordering that the field at the Orange Bowl be saturated prior to game time. The Fish ended up winning that AFC Championship Game 14-0 over the Jets.
  18. And he'll probably get it. After all, Lincecum and his TWO Cy Youngs has got to be worth at least twice what Kuroda's getting from the SCHTEINBRENNERS.
  19. Last chance at bebop greatness? You have heard of Miles with Bird, haven't you?
  20. The problem with your comment is that there are plenty of people with high IQs who are stupid and full of unjustified machismo. Not in New York. Here, what you see is what you get. I've lived in NY all my 56 years and I've met plenty of stupid people with high IQs, especially at NYU, Columbia and the "financial services" sector. So have I. How many "intelligent" cops do you know, though??? All I'm saying is that low IQ pretty much guarantees stupidity. Most cops I've met have serious Napoleon complexes. I realize that the job is tough, but it's a job choice. There is no excuse for taking out their anger about making such a choice on the general public, which is mostly composed of good, hard-working, honest people. Mr. Fass' story is certainly not a new one. How many times have you been stopped for a traffic violation, and been treated like you had just committed a murder??? Probably too many to count.
  21. In the American League, Kuroda will get smacked around worse than a tee in a tee-ball game. Very curious move on Cashman's part as $10 mil is far from chump change.

  23. Extraordinarily well put.
  24. I'll nuance him from a bad cop to a schmuck cop, but it's still a violation of the public trust anytime you're not protected and/or served by someone charged to do that and only that. It's a helluva a tough gig, no doubt, but that's no excuse, is it? See my comment in the post right above yours!
  25. Heroes or not, potential cops should have to pass IQ (or equivalent) tests. Stupidity and unjustified machismo leads to the type of behavior that was heaped on Mr. Fass. New York cops are among the worst offenders. Napoleon complex, anyone?
