The Beatles why do they sound so different from early Rock
JETman replied to Karma Police's topic in Artists
WOW!!!!!!! Some of you guys are starting to sound like you STILL live in your parents' basements!!! Who cares about US/UK issues. The music's all there whether you want to listen to it or not. Over 100 posts and still nobody has named a better swan song than Abbey Road. WOW!!!!!!! -

Yes, I was serious about Abbey Road being one of the best, if not the best swan song I've ever heard. As far as Rubber Soul and Revolver go, they are both great albums. But your statement about these being the Beatles' best is quite subjective, wouldn't you say? -

"The world of Hank Crawford". MG "Minnie The Moocher's Wedding Day", by Horace Henderson (members of the group include Henry "Red" Allen and Coleman Hawkins) I thought so. Can we now move on from Beatle bashing? I am not bashing the Beatles with my Horace Henderson remark. I owned all of their albums as they were coming out and played them a bazillion times. They were huge in my life when I was young. They were huge to everyone, as I remember. I still like their music and think that they were really good. When I listen to their albums now, I am struck by the attention to detail and high quality throughout. I just think that Abbey Road is only one of thousands of recordings that is fine and mature. Fair enough. But I said "final" musical statement. That is, a last album made by an individual or group of musicians. I have just gotten really tired of the Beatles being called "shallow", directly or indirectly. The high quality of their music still comes through to my ears today, even after all these years of mostly jazz listening. And, fwiw, they sure as hell beat Elvis AND a poke in the eye with a sharp stick anyday -

Can anyone name a finer, more mature, final musical statement, in any genre, than "Abbey Road"? -
LF: Mike Taylor Trio CD on Impressed-Repressed
JETman replied to clifford_thornton's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Is it available through one of the normal channels? I checked many of the Amazon sites with no luck. Any help you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks. -
I have Mercer's "Colors in Rhythm" as a Japanese cd. Glad to see these coming out though. I will pounce.

At today's conversion rate, it is still better to order them from Amazon.de for approx. $155 with shipping, versus approx. $211 with shipping from Dusty Groove!

Hope all goes well. If you get a chance to stay longer in the future, let us know.

That it is!!! You would need to get there at least an hour before showtime. I was there last year to hear a great set from David Binney's band. This is his "home" base.

If you can make it into the city one day sooner, Dave Liebman's group is playing at the 55 Bar on Friday, Nov. 7th: 55bar.com

Dizzy's "Cool World" and "Goes to Hollywood" were out on 1 cd back in the 90s. All tunes from "Hobo Flats" are on the Nelson Mosaic. Btw, the only place I see "Hobo Flats" listed is on Amazon. I can't seem to find it on CD Universe's site.

Btw, the Mangelsdorff boxed sets are flippin' fantastic!!!

In what sense? To Kill A Mockingbird. Now THERE'S a classic! Anyway, to each his own. My tastes are pretty eclectic. But modern classical, I can do without.

The music fits the images very well. I literally felt like I was going insane while watching it.
-
I found it very difficult to listen to the soundtracks to those Godfrey Reggio "Sqatsi" flicks. Ouch!!!

Name some Blue Note cds you find overrated
JETman replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Recommendations
Alot of Jimmy Smith, including Plays Fats Waller released earlier this month. I find it to be one of the most boring Blue Notes I have in my collection. -
Well stated. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Jazzecho's prices are cheaper than those at Amazon.de, FWIW.
-
Has anyone in the States ever ordered from Jazzecho.de? If so what are your experiences with them concerning reliability and delivery time? Thanks in advance for your help.
-
Another item of interest is "Echoes of an Era" with Chaka Khan backed by the same group. Great record where Chaka really shows her jazz sensibilities. This is available as a Rhino cd.

It may be. Molde is Aug 81, Motians Psalm is Dec 81. There were several before these according to this discography page: http://www.bryanaaker.net/pre1983.html

I'd love to see those two out!!! Probably my favorite Liebman stuff. Drum Ode, and Arild Anderson's A Molde Concert, actually came out here in the States around the turn of the century!
