  1. Now with Central Park North which I just bought and Consummation out on individual CDs, hopefully EMI/Blue Note will continue to issue the remainder of the Jones/Lewis Solid State recordings on CD. Like many, I missed out on the Mosaic.
  2. I think these cats are still with us Cecil Payne: 80 plus years old Louie Bellson: at least 80 years old Donald Byrd: mid 70s
  3. His and her jazz collections. Nice. Congratulations ... sounds like you've got a cool girl. Usually girlfriends turn a deaf ear to jazz and get all worked up if you buy more than one or two jazz CDs per month. Mosaics and box sets have been known to trigger meltdowns in the past even though I had money left over for dinner, flowers, movies, etc. Hooha, nice arrangement. Best of luck.
  4. Aside from its appearance on Mosaic's Complete EMI/Atlantic Recordings of Shorty Rogers back in the late 1980s, which was before my time, it seems like this album has never been issued in its entirety on compact disc either in the U.S. as part of the Atlantic/Rhino, Collectables, Koch-Jazz, 32 Jazz-Label M reissue program or in Europe or Japan. A "Giants of Jazz" CD compilation from Italy contains only three of the eight pieces on the LP. What's up with this? With so many different companies (Collectables, Koch, etal issuing the Atlantic back catalogue on CD), why hasn't this album been reissued in its entirety by someone other than Mosaic? This has created a major gap in the reissuing of classic Atlantic records from the 1950s and 60s. After more than twenty years since the appearance of CD technology. this album hasn't seen the light of day as a single disc issue on CD. What a shame since there's plenty of us who dig Shorty and his Giants. While there's many other great Atlantic dates IMHO that still haven't been issued anywhere on CD (Charles Bell and the Contemporary Jazz Quartet - Another Dimension), Cy Walter Plays Richard Rodgers and the Newport Jazz Festival All Stars (late 1950s set)), Shorty Rogers was such an important figure in west coast jazz that his first Atlantic record deserves to be issued in its entirety on compact disc. I'm willing to overlook the Bell, Walter and Newport sets not being issued on CD, but what's up with not having the Swinging Mr. Rogers on compact disc? A great set - let's have it on compact disc. We've waited long enough.
  5. Looking for a clean/mint copy of Emily Remler "Take Two" on compact disc for sale or trade. Thanks
  6. Just picked it up today. One of the top two or three "new releases" this year (IMHO). Benny's in a sweet and mellow mood playing a combination of old standards ("Blues March" and "Killer Joe") along with his more recent material. Grab it! I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk and promotion about this set.
  7. CDs arrived today in perfect shape. Thanks again.
  8. I just picked up his Three Guitars in Bossa Nova Time on LP. What a smooth album. According to the liner notes he also recorded another album for Epic ("The Midnight Roll") as well as the set he recorded with Stuff Smith which was issued a few years back on a Koch/Jazz CD (Herb Ellis & Stuff Smith - "Together!"). It would be great to have these recordings and any others Ellis recorded for Epic under one roof - perhaps as a Mosaic Select.
  9. Just emailed you regarding the Gerry Mulligan - California Concerts Volume 1 disc. Thanks Bob
  10. Did Bob Brookmeyer and Clark Terry record an album together at the Half Note in New York? If so, has it ever been issued on compact disc?
  11. Hi David, Just sent you a PM. Thanks again. Bob
  12. Any leads on where I can find a copy of this CD from this Detroit based alto player? His website indicates that's it's no longer available for sale.
  13. While I prefer Tom Harrell over Wynton, I think the Wynton box isn't bad especially for the price. It's one of three Wynton sets I have, the other two being Live at Blues Alley and Standards. As for Tom Harrell, I think he's the best trumpet player out there today. He also does stuff Wynton doesn't...plays the flugel, composes beautiful music and arranges like no one since Gerald Wilson IMHO. Tom Harrell is one of the most original, innovative musicians and composers in jazz, much more so than Wynton. Yes I'm biased, but I've been a huge Harrell fan since I first saw him at a small club/restaurant in Schenectady, New York back in June 1990. What a night, I'll never forget.
  14. I've just found out that I've been experiencing the same problem as well. I just logged on to get my email from yahoo and saw that I had six unopened/new emails from organissimo relaying PMs that had been sent to me in the past week or so.
  15. Up for a little air. Willing to pay a fair price for these if no trades can be made. Thanks again.
  16. Hi Mark, Just sent you a reply. Thanks, Bob
  17. If anyone has a copy they're interested in selling/trading or knows of a shop where I can still buy these CDs, please PM me. Thanks. Much appreciated. Gil Melle - Complete 50s Blue Note Recordings - 2 CD set Howard McGhee Vol 2/Tal Farlow Julius Watkins - Volumes 1 and 2
  18. Dizzy Gillespie on the French Riviera Philips CD - currently on ebay at $91.00 with three hours left. Too, too rich for my blood. Hopefully this will be reissued again somewhere.
  19. How do you avoid or prevent ringwear from forming on an LP album jacket? I recently bought a mint condition Dave Brubeck Columbia Stereo 2 eye LP (Newprot 1958) with significant cover ringwear only to find that an earlier stereo pressing of the same album (a Columbia 6 eye pressing) had virtually no ringwear. While the earlier 2 eye copy was more expensive than the one I bought, I'm curious to find out why a later LP jacket appeared more weathered and worn than the jacket on the earlier pressing. The copy I purchased was not in any way soiled, abused, torn, marked up or exposed to the elements but it still had ringwear which the earlier copy did not have. While the record itself plays perfectly and I'm happy with the purchase, are there any tips or suggestions on how to avoid or prevent further ringwear on LP jackets? Thanks.
  20. Any info on this set. Who plays on it. style, recording date? Not much about this one on AMG. I love the Prestige set he did with Coltrane reissued on OJC. Thanks.
  21. Up for a little air. PM me if interested. Thanks for looking.
  22. Are there any plans to issue this set as a part of the French Universal / Jazz In Paris series from Gitanes/Universal or is this series limited to reissuing records that were actually recorded in Paris? This would be a great set to have out on CD again. I missed it when it came out on CD in the mid 1980s.
  23. Great set from the Vanguard but will all this music fit onto a single CD? I have this set which spans two LP records issued in the early 1980s. Great music-hopefully Universal/Verve will issue the entire set even if it means a two CD set. It seems that the LPR series consists of sets/records that are rather short in duration (30 to 45 minutes) with no additional tracks. Have there been any two CD sets issued in the LPR series?
  24. Up with additions and price reductions.
  25. The recent European reissue is an improvement over the US KochJazz edition but still not great. Perhaps Bill Evans was poorly miked during the first session in 1961. To me, it sounds like Atlantic used the mono masters which may suggest the improvement in sound.
