  1. Is the Fathead Newman CD availlable in the US?
  2. Just picked up the following CDs from the Warner Bros. Jazz Masters series Ornette Coleman - Ornette! Bill Evans - You Must Believe In Spring Erroll Garner - The Greatest Garner. Well mastered, nicely packaged discs with additional tracks. Hopefully this is just the beginning of a new reissue program from Atlantic-Warner Would love to see the following released on this series: Shorty Rogers and His Giants - The Swingin' Mr. Rogers The Modern Jazz Quartet - Plays George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess The Modern Jazz Quartet - Live at the Lighthouse Charles Bell and the Contemporary Jazz Quartet David Fathead Newman - Ray Charles Presents Milt Jackson - Ballads and Blues (available on Collectables with one tune omitted) Shorty Rogers - Way Up There (also available on Collectables with one tune omitted) While Ornette! was previously issued on a 2LP/1CD Collectable, its reissue in this series may bring to light other complete Atlantic LPs that had only been available in abridged form on Collectables with one or more pieces omitted from the orginal LP as a result of time limitations on the CD.
  3. Has Bring It on Home to Me or Heads Up ever been issued on single compact discs in the US, Japan etc? I'm still on the fence about buying the Mosaic set even though it's running low. I have Step Lightly on a TOCJ, The Thing to Do and Down With It on US issues and Boss Horn on the Spanish Blue Note-Time Life edition. If Bring It On Home to Me and Heads Up haven't been released on CD, is there any plans to do so anywhere in the near future?
  4. As for the Art Farmer Interaction/Sing Me Softly of the Blues Collectables CD, is there something wrong with the remastering on "My Little Suade Shoes" or did the original LP contain the same sound "distortion" with regard to the guitar on that piece? The series itself has brought to light several obscure Atlantic recordings which didn't seem to have much chance of being reissued on CD. My only complaint here is the "pairing" of such artists as Mabel Mercer with Jimmy Giuffre 3 and The Clarke-Boland Band with The Mitchell-Ruff Trio on one compact disc.
  5. I've noticed that several Bethlehem recordings have been issued twice in the US in the past 10 years or so. Is there any difference in sound quality or music offered between the Bethlehem CDs issued under the WEA Rhino distributed Avenue Jazz issues and the earlier Bethlehem editions issued in the mid 1990s?

    Bev Kelly

Does anyone know what ever happened to Bev Kelly? All I know is that she was a singer from Ohio who worked out in San Francisco in the late 1950's, made a couple of records on Riverside and then disappeared. Would be interested to find out more about her.
  7. Looking for Dizzy Gillespie's On the French Riviera issued on compact disc. Thanks.
  8. I just noticed that Columbia/Sony Legacy is releasing Ellington's "Masterpieces" and "Uptown" on compact disc in February. I missed "Uptown" when it was available on disc years ago and I don't think I've ever seen "Masterpieces" as a domestic CD release.
  9. I bought the JRVG of Pete La Roca's Basra in 2000. What's the difference between the March 2004 JRVG and the earlier JRVG? Any additional tracks, etc?
  10. With Koch Jazz, Collectables, Wounded Bird, Label M and Warner Rhino having reissued many classic Atlantic LPs on CD, hopefully there's a possibility that the following Atlantic LPs will be reissued on CD soon. Charles Bell and the Contemporary Jazz Quartet - Another Dimension - Atlantic 1400 The Modern Jazz Quartet Plays George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess - Atlantic 1440 Newport Jazz Festival All Stars - Atlantic 1331 (never heard this one but sounds interesting) Historic Jazz Concert at Music Inn - Atlantic 1298 (never heard this one but sounds interesting) Cy Walter Plays Richard Rodgers - Atlantic 1236 Shorty Rogers - The Swingin' Mr. Rogers - Atlantic 1212
  11. Has Shorty Rogers - The Swingin' Mr. Rogers ever been issued on compact disc in the U.S., England, Japan or anywhere else for that matter aside from when it appeared as part of the Rogers 4 CD Mosaic set? If no, does anyone know of any plans to reisuue it on disc?
  12. Is there any news about a reissue of Dexter Gordon's Nights At the Keystone recorded in the late 1970's? I thought I read somewhere that this was a possible Mosaic project.
  13. Have any of the Original Jazz Classics or OJC Limited Edition CDs gone out of print? Are any titles in danger of being deleted anytime soon?
  14. I know this is a real long shot but I'll try anyway. Looking to complete the Shorty Rogers Mosaic CD set. I found Volume One in a used CD shop for $15.00. I'd be willing to purchase the entire set or Volumes 2, 3 and 4 if anyone has a duplicate copy they'd be interested in selling. Thanks.
  15. Red trumpet will have them available sometime in December.
  16. I just saw the track listings for the upcoming Japanese CD issues of the Buddy Defranco-Sonny Clark Quartet/Quintets on Verve. Looks like there are three "mystery" tunes that were not issued on the Mosaic set. The three "mystery" tunes are: Number Six (track 7 on Cookin' the Blues) When Your Lover Has Gone (track 7 on Jazz Tones) The Things We Did Last Summer (track 8 on Jazz Tones) According to previous psots as well as All Music Guide, the Mosaic set has 39 tracks. According to the listing at Redtrumpet, the five CDs to be issued in mid December total 36 tracks. It looks like the "Between the Devil and Deep Blue Sea" tarck was only issued as part of the Mosaic set. It also appears that the short version of "Titoro" was first issued on a compilation entitled Verve Jazz Compendium Vol. 2 which is not listed for reissue. As for the three mystery tracks mentioned above, are any of them retitles perhaps of- - Cable Car - I Wish I Knew - Monogram - Blues in the Closet These last four tunes are listed on the Mosaic set which but are not listed on any of the five upcoming Defranco CDs to be issued in Japan - according to the Redtrumpet site which is reliable IMO.
  17. Prices include shipping to a US address. All discs are in excellent shape. $22.00 - Hank Mobley Quintet (Blue Note TOCJ 1550) $14.00 - Horace Silver Quintet: At the Village Gate: Doin' The Thing (Blue Note 84076 1995 Collector's Choice) $7.00 - Kenny Dorham: Una Mas (Blue Note 1995 Collector's Choice) $6.00 - Stanley Turrentine: Rough and Tumble (Blue Note 2000 release) $6.00 - Carmen McRae: Sarah-Dedicated to You (RCA Novus 1991 release) Please PM if interested. Thanks. `
  18. Looking for: Jazz Goes to Junior College and Anything Goes! on compact disc. These two albums were issued on CD in Japan in the late 1990's. Any leads would be appreciated. Would be willing to purchase CDs with shipping from anyone who may have access to these two discs in a record shop. I'd also be interested in buying these discs from anyone who may want to unload them from their collection. Thanks.
  19. Although I know the Mosaic set includes all of J. J.'s Columbia recordings, has any of this material been issued on CD in Japan aside from Dial J.J.5 and Blue Trombone? Unfortunately the J.J. in Person LP is only available from Collectables on a poorly remastered CD which also includes Jay and Kai with six additional trombones-a little too much on the trombones here. Would be interested to know if J.J. in Person, Satin Doll and First Place have ever been issued on compact disc in Japan or Europe.
  20. Hi I just sent you a PM regarding the Art Farmer CD.
  21. MARCH Looks like it's going to be a very long winter waiting for more Brubeck on CD. There hasn't benn any domestic Brubeck reissues since the sping of 2001 when Sony/Legacy brought out Live at Carnegie Hall; Jazz Impressions of Japan and Jazz: Red Hot and Cool. At the rate Sony/Legacy is going with reissuing the Columbia Brubeck catalogue, none of us here today will ever see Jazz Goes to Junior College; Jazz Impressions of USA; The Last Time We Saw Paris and Jackpot reissued on compact disc. I'm sure there'll be a "Complete Kenny G" Mosaic set before any of the above albums see the light of day on compact disc!!
  22. Can anyone pull up a list or offer a link to the tunes that are on the Past Perfect CD issue of Buddy DeFranco - The Bright One with Sonny Clark. I know it was posted on the board before but I think the thread may have been deleted. Thanks.
  23. I'm looking for some Concord Jazz titles and I noticed that many of these recordings were licensed to Bellaphon Sound Service for release in Europe and reissue in the US. Does anyone know if Concord Jazz CDs can be obtained through Bellaphon directly or through a European mail order service? Thanks.
