  1. I noticed that the Spanish Verve Collection series has issued Hank Jones' "Upon Reflection", Kenny Barron "Wanton Spirit" and a Fancy Boland-Kenny Clarke "two-fer" ("All Blues"/"Sax No End"). Does anyone know where these CDs can be purchased other than through jazzmessengers.com as their shipping rates to the US are quite expensive. Thanks. Bob
  2. Thanks for the links. Unfortunately the Discmedi S.A. site has several Tete Montoliu CDs listed but they did not take a credit card number or other method of payment when I proceeded to checkout. I recieved an ordrer number but no payment information was requested. What do I need to do to actually buy these CDs and complete the transaction? Thanks. Bob
  3. Anyone know where I can purchase Tete Montoliu compact discs issued in Spain aside from the usual haunts like Amazon, Tower, Dusty Groove, etc? I recently placed an order with Fresh Sound-Absolute Distribition-Blue Moon in Spain but half of the CDs issued on Fresh Sound, Discmedi and Helix are out of stock and/or print. Looking in particular for Lliure Jazz, Per Sempre, It's Standard Time Volume 2 with Charlie Mariano and For Anna. Thanks. Bob
  4. emailed you about the Denny Zeitlin Maybeck CD. Thanks. Bob
  5. Still waiting for: Jazz Goes to Junior College The Last Time We Saw Paris Jackpot- Live From Vegas Jazz Impressions of the USA
  6. Due out on September 20th. Anyone have any information about track listings. Hopefully it will contain all the material contained on the Mosaic set.
  7. Now that Fantasy owns the Concord Jazz catalogue, what's the possibility that future OJC issues will include recordings from Concord's back catalogue. Here's a start for some Concord recordings that would make great OJCs: The Richie Kamuca Sessions The Ed Bickert 5 at Toronto's Bourbon Street Red & Ross: Red Norvo and Ross Tompkins Live in LA - January 1979 Neil Swainson Quintet: 49th Parallel with Woody Shaw Martin Taylor: Skye Boat - 1981 trio date Ross Tompkins, Joe Venuti, Ray Brown, Scott Hamilton and Jake Hanna Live at Concord '77 The Dave McKenna Trio: Plays the Music of harry Warren (Dave's only trio date on Concord) Just wishful thinking, I know. I won't hold my breath on this possibility.
  8. A first rate recording. Hope there's more to come from this collaboration. Unlike Tommy Flanagan when he recorded "After Hours" with Scott in the late 90s, Bill Charlap is just reaching his prime. As for Scott, I agree he's looking more middle aged particularly without the mustache but his playing's much more refined and robust. A great album in all aspects.
  9. Due out on Tuesday, April 5th. Will grab it at lunch. Although IMHO it took Scott Hamilton 5 to 10 years to come full circle with his playing in a quartet setting after the "breakup" of the Scott Hamilton Quintet in the late 1980s, this set looks like it will be a four star set in both artists' discographies. While sets like "Organic Duke" and ""Race Point" fall short of the classic Hamilton recordings from the 70s and 80s, albums like "After Hours" with Tommy Flanagan and "Live in London" really show how Hamilton's playing has matured and deepened to a level where one doesn't miss him in a quintet setting. As for Charlap, he's the best pianist out there today, IMHO.
  10. Are the following two Sinatra recordings available anywhere on CD? (Germany, Japan, etc.) - She Shot Me Down - Softly As I Leave
  11. I remember seeing the Paul Chambers Quintet Blue Note Conn. up for sale on the board a few weeks ago. I'm sure that copy's gone but if anyone has a clean/mint (non Columbia House) copy they'd like to sell or knows of a place other than ebay, half.com, etc that has one, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Bob
  12. Ellington's "Afro-Bossa" and "Music From Mary Poppins" is due out today on Collectables. Will never forgive myself for not picking up this material when it came out on the five CD set from Mosaic. I knew about Mosaic in 1999 but was "turned off" with the idea of Ellington playing Mary Poppins, Hello Dolly and all those pop tunes from the 1960s. In the past couple of years I've picked up the "Concert in the Virgin Islands/Afro Bossa" CD issued in England as well as the "Reflections of the Big Band Era" CD and have been diggin' this era of Ellington ever since. Upcoming mid sixties Ellington Reprise reissues on Collectables nclude: March 29th: - Symphonic Ellington - Ellington 65 - Ellington 66 April 12th: - Concert in the Virgin Islands - The Great Paris Concert Love you madly, Duke
  13. Still no George Robert - Tom Harrell Quintet Sun Dance issued as an OJC! A great set on Contemporary from 1987 that never made it to CD. George Robert - soprano/alto sax Tom Harrell - trumpet/flugelhorn Dado Moroni - piano Reggie Johnson - bass Bill Goodwin - drums
  14. Any new leads on this one? I bought the $21.00 copy up for sale on Amazon a couple of weeks ago for my girlfriend thanks to a lead on the board. Unfortunately, there's been no CD and no response from the seller on this transaction so far. Based on past experience, it appears that the disc is lost in the mail. Willing to buy a clean/mint -- non BMG/Columbia House record club copy of this recording on CD for $25.00. Thanks. Bob
  15. Anyone had any problems with this NAD machine? After cleaning the CD player with a CD cleaner it still doesn't play CDs. CDs contine to skip, flutter and have seconds of silence in the middle of songs. Any advice as to what the problem may be. Any suggestions for a new CD player? Thanks. Bob
  16. Thanks Chaney for the heads up.
  17. This is probably the wrong board for this post but it's the only board I know and visit. Aside from half, tower, amazon, ebay...the usual internet sites, is there any place on the net or actual "brick and mortar" shop where I can I buy a copy of the following Sinatra CD for a "Sinatraphile" friend's upcoming birthday. - Softly, As I Leave You contains "The Look of Love" Any sightings in a CD shop would be most appreciated. Thanks, Bob
  18. Is there a list of titles that are being deleted?
  19. Is Alan Grant still around? The last I heard of him was 12-15 years ago as the host of NPR's "Four Corners Jazz From Las Vegas" What was his background? Any pictures of him on the net?
  20. I just got an email from Tower.com informing me that Art Farmer - Portrait of Art is unavailable after one month on backorder. Are OJCs going out of print??
  21. For those who missed the Mosaic set, Collectables will be reissuing Ellington's Reprise recordings in March and April March 15, 2005: Mary Poppins Afro-Bossa March 29, 2005: Ellington '65 Ellington '66 The Symphonic Ellington April 12, 2005: The Great Paris Concert (Atlantic) Concert in the Virgin Islands Will Big Bands Ever Come Back? Recently picked up Duke Ellington's Jazz Violin Session on Wounded Bird Records - interesting arrangements
  22. With many volumes out of print and others almost impossible to find, perhaps Concord will think to reissue the Maybeck Recital Hall series as "2 for 1 twofers".
  23. A vote for Larry Young's Contrasts as a 2005 Conn. I had the LP years ago and loaned it out never to be seen again.
  24. Now with Blue Mitchell's The Thing to Do and "Down With It" out on CD and "Boss Horn" due out as an RVG, hopefully Blue Note will follow up with "Bring It Home to Me" and "Heads Up" within the near future I have the Spanish Blue Note edition of "Boss Horn". Any idea if there will be additional tracks on the RVG Edition?
  25. Looks like the release date's been pushed back to March 15th. It was originally scheduled for release back in November. At this rate, we'll probably find the Rogers Atlantic/EMI Mosaic before this album sees the light of day on CD.
