  1. Just released by Hip-O Select. Is the price justified, compared to previous releases? http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Commodore-D...6526&sr=1-1 Many thanks Alex
  2. A new CD version to be released in January 2010 by El (?) records as per amazon and jpc.de stores! http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...ER&v=glance Best alex
  3. Dear All Many thanks for your time doing these suggestions! Best Alex
  4. Yes, but you have to buy 2 articles from their promotion list... Many thanks for the info Alex
  5. A friend of mine who is deep in soul and not at all in jazz, listened and liked Donald Byrd's "A new perpsective". Can you assist me in proposing similar recordings to him? Many thanks! Best Alex
  6. Many thanks! It is crazy how the Bill Evans Album rare is on the Legacy CD. Do you know of any other edition? "Funkallero" from thta album is unsurpassable, IMO. Best Alex
  7. Cue for me to recommend Mark Gardner's very good article on Curtis Counce's recordings in this month's 'Jazz Journal'. Those Counce albums are all great but I've got a particular soft spot for 'Exploring The Future' on Dootone. Worth it just for the cover art ! I love this one: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&a...10:gzfexqygldhe You Get More Bounce with Curtis Counce and a GREAT sleeve: You get more bounce
  8. Well done. My first Mosaic Select was the Brookmeyer set that I listen very often to. Highly recommended as the Bud Shank/Cooper set is. Alex

    Bud Shank R.I.P.

Very sad news. Some days ago I was listening to Blowin' Country w./ Bob Cooper; what a superb record! Rest in peace.
  10. Amazing album. Highyl recommended. I bought some years ago a release of it that had the CD as well a DVD on Mulligan reaching masterclasses etc. Alex
  11. All my thanks! Problem is that there are different numbers on front/spine and then the back. I think most of us will go for the number on front and spine. So Crolla becomes 04, Jean-Marie is 05 and Anachronic Jazz Band is 06. Oops, Crolla may have 06 on the front, but I am pretty sure it does have 04 on the spine. I'll check again tonight. It's really only a problem for the truly obsessed. The truly obsessed can always check the excellent site by a former Organissimo forums participant (Bonjour Volkher ) Jazz in Paris There is a note there on the numbering confusions in the recent releases.
  12. Many thanks! After a research at Amazon.fr I got the following titles for the Hors Serie JIP releases. Check the list that follows. My problem is that, judging from the sleeves at Amazon, the Anachronic and Alain releases have the same 05 number, while there is no volume 04! Can you clarify this matter? Many thanks! Jazz in Paris - Hors Serie 01: Sacha Distel Jazz Guitarist http://www.amazon.fr/Jazz-Guitarist-Digipa.../ref=pd_sim_m_1 02: Bill Coleman The complete philips recordings http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000...=A1X6FK5RDHNB96 03: Fohrenbach french sound http://www.amazon.fr/Coffret-CD-Fohrenbach...pd_bxgy_m_img_b 04: ??? 05 ???: Anachronic JazzBand http://www.amazon.fr/Anthropology-Anachron...pd_bxgy_m_img_c 05 ???: Alain Jean-Marie http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001...=A1X6FK5RDHNB96 06: Henri Crolla http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001...=A1X6FK5RDHNB96 Alex

  18. Dear friends Just a quick note from not-a-so-famous jazz city. Today is the big day for every jazz fan in Athens, since Herbie Hancock's quintet (or sextet, we shall see) will perform tonight in the frame of his large European tour (I suspect you might have heard his thrilling perfrormance from the closing day of this year's Berlin Jazz Festival). The tickets in Athens were sold in two days. The same happened two weeks ago with Chick Corea/Lohn McLaughlin's concert. And Wayne Shorter will be in town in March. Great days, I am telling you and this is not so often here. Moreover Al Foster's Quartet perforrms in the Half Note Jazz Club (the one out of the two jazz clubs in a 5,5 million people capital...) for one week. So, yesterday I received a phone call from an "insider" that Herbie and his band will be at the Half Note so as to see Al Foster! I was 10 o'clock in the evening and preparing to go to bed... Suddenly I made the decision picked the car and drove to the club. Nobody (or very few apart from the owner and staff) were aware of this visit. Al Foster dtarted his set (what a magnificent drummer and musician he is). After the first tune, the door open and Herbie & Band entered very discreetly and sat. Some of the audince recognized him and went crazy. A lot of young students were there because it was Monday and the entrance with a drink is just 20 Euro. They could not believe it. Al Foster welcomed him as his former boss. And then Herbie greeted. He then sat on the piano and they performed a long Watermelon Man!! I have some clips from this performance. In case you are interested I could upload them for you. Then the intermission came amd Herbie was bombarded with autograph requests and CD/LPs signing (it was proven that some people were well informed for hsi visit). He gladly signed. The then had some small talk with Al Foster and Band, photos were taken with all of them and then he left. His band stayed till the end approx at 1.30. What a memorable night! A photo of Herbie and myself is attached. All the best Alex Athens
  19. No 277 arrived today in Greece! Alex
  20. I am interested in purchasing the 1997 Columbia/Legacy release of the Bill Evans Album. Many thanks Alex
  21. I think that the VERVE 2CDs release of this material is still in-print for $18: http://www.cdconnection.com/details/Chico_...159?source=none A marvelous set! When I was in New York for the first time in 2000 I had to choose on Saturday night either to go to Blue Note and see Jim Hall/Joe Lovano or Chico O'Farrill at the Village Vanguard. I chosed Jim Hall. Later I regretted it, since Chico died some months later. Nevertheless his son conducted the Lincoln Latin Jazz O. last year in Athens and they were gooood! Many thanks for the info. Best Alex

  23. I received my Donaldson box yesterday 1 Aug 2008 and its number is 1853! So, 3 years after this discussion started and 6 years after the release of this marvelous set, it has not yet reached the halfway point... Very strange... I already listened to the first CD two times! Best Alex
  24. I own the Herbie Hancock Box (the first release as a cube). My question is if there is in this box any more documentation than the booklet that includes the track list and Hancock's comments. In the review of AMG it is mentioned that there are "goergeous reproductions of the LP sleeves" which I cannot find anywhere in my cube and booklet. Many thanks. Best Alex
