You mean the Chronological (*) series (approx. 8 cds for the period in question and not only the Columbias; 44 cds (!!) in total) and Jazz Masters cds I suppose; most of these go for crazy prices nowadays... A huge gap then... we have for main early Duke on CD, -the Vocalion/Brunswick (pre '32) in that 3-cd set recently reissued by Universal Italy, -the Victor sides in the RCA 100th anniv. set, -the Columbia/Brunswick etc. sides 1932-40 in the great Mosaic set (great transfers) and Sony who has not yet managed to compile a comprehensive set of the labels they control for the pre-32 recordings... so dissapointing... I know there is an early 2cd set by CBS/Sony containing these early Duke recordings made for Columbia and Okeh from 1927 to 1930. http://www.amazon.com/Okeh-Ellington-Duke/dp/B00000274L but the transfers leave a lot to be desired. Are there any other subsequent relases on CD that are satisfactory? Many thanks! Alex.-

N° 10 Bobby Jaspar – Bobby Jaspar’s New Jazz Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 1954) Le saxophoniste, flûtiste et compositeur belge Bobby Jaspar est le pivot autour duquel tourne le jazz moderne français des années 1950. Ces deux albums en sont un excellent témoignage. N° 11 Jimmy Raney – Visits Paris (1954) Il est temps de redécouvrir Jimmy Raney qui connu une certaine notoriété en enregistrant avec Stan Getz. Cet album rend hommage à la sensibilité et à la justesse d’un des meilleurs guitariste de l’histoire du jazz. N° 12 Henri Renaud – Henri Renaud All Stars Vol.1 & Vol. 2 (1954) Avant de devenir directeur de collection au département jazz de Sony Music, le pianiste, compositeur et arrangeur français Henri Renaud a organisé un nombre impressionnant d’enregistrements pour Vogue : ici à New York deux albums éblouissants de swing avec entre autres Al Cohn, Milt Jackson Percy Heath et Jay Jay Johnson… N° 13 Oscar Pettiford – Sextet Vol. 1 (1954) Henri Renaud est aussi à l’origine de cet enregistrement d’Oscar Pettiford qui reste incontestablement le premier contrebassiste et violoncelliste du jazz moderne. N° 14 René Thomas et son Quintette (1954 – 1955) Malgré une carrière assez discrète, cet immense guitariste a joué avec Miles Davis et enregistré avec Chet Baker, Sonny Rollins et Stan Getz. N° 18 André Hodeir – Essais – Musiques de films (1953 – 1954) Musicien et théoricien du jazz André Hodeir signe ces deux albums dont l’importance ne s’est pas démenti. N° 19 Lalo Schifrin – Rendez-vous dansant à Copacabana (1955) L’auteur de la musique du film Mission impossible démarra sa carrière discographique en France avec cet album de musique dite ‘’typique’’ où le jazz est déjà bien présent. N° 20 Barney Wilen – Tilt (1957) Le jeune et brillant saxophoniste français Barney Wilen a tout juste 20 ans quand il enregistre ce premier disque. Lauréat du prix Django Reinhardt de l’académie du jazz il participera ensuite, aux côtés de Miles Davis, à la musique du film Ascenseur pour l’échafaud

Interesting comment. Folks on the Miles list complained about the subpar sound as compared to the Japanese "1969 Miles". Which Miles list (I ve never been to any Miles List and i am intrested to browse a little bit) ?. Thanks! Alex

I am very happy with such releases. 3CDs+1DVD for 24 EURO! This one would cost at least 50 EURO in the 90s. And with a fancier packaging perhaps 70 Euro. BTW, no sticker in my copy from Amazon.co.uk. Alex

I adore so much Ardley's "Greek Variations" (the CD is deleted and goes for high prices); his variations on this very familiar to any Greek folk song that was the main theme of the State Radio for more than half a century work perfectly; genius!
