As per their listing details, the Platimum SHM-CD comes from a fresh 2013 remastering. No details in english (similar to the rock/soul Platinum-SHM CDs) are provided in these Jazz Platinum SHM-CDs sadly. I doubt the blu-ray audio has this new mastering. I do not have it, but this is my instinct and the poor impressions I got from some blu-ray audio discs I purchased.

So, just before going to work, I played the whole Platinum SHM-CD through - the intent was to compare short sections, but I could not stop it. Amazing sound. Now I am playing the APO SACD (SACD layer): the new Platinum SHM-CD is definetely darker than the APO. The APO is brighter and louder in my system. I dare to day that the Platinum wins; much more comfortable and analogue. I ll repeat the test soon though. Alex

RIP. My Guitar Hero. I just saw him once at the Blue Note in 2000 with Joe Lovano: "Grand Slam" concerts. Marvelous. I got his autograph as well. Yesterday, the french classical/jazz radio, after broadcasting the Sax Summit Paris '13 concert, they paid tribute to Jim Hall. A year ago they dedicated ten 1-hour programs to the guitarist, who was also interviewed by phone. You will enjoy Carlos Kleiber's Beethoven 7th a lot. Actually he conducted this work more than any other, along with the 4th.

I like it as well. The impressive is that they actually remastered again for this Blu-ray Audio? IIRC, the latest ALS CD is a Reeves remaster, but it does not inlcude the extra Deluxe tracks... Interesting and tempting! Thanks!

Thanks for posting your impressions! The Deluxe version from 2000 was a RVG remastering job? I have purchased just the Ella & Louis Blu-ray Audio since it contains the whole "Again" double LP. However, the sound is just a reproduction of the commonly available remasters. So, not an upgrade. The APO SACDs are miles ahead but the "Again" SACD include just the half of the original double LP. I have got the Fischer and Cannonball CDs. The Cannonball one is louder than it should have been, but listenable (I have no idea how the LP of this one sound though). Brasamba! is very nice.The LTs I got are very good - no probem with them. The Atlantics (I ve got around 30 of them) work quite well for recs of the MJQ, John Lewis and similar, while the Lloyd's for example should have been less loud for sure. Alex

Well, that would be about all of them, wouldn't it? Universal and Sony together control all the Brunswicks, Sony has the Victors and the Okehs. What's left? gregmo ... and the Columbias belong to Sony as well. All set!

You mean the Chronological (*) series (approx. 8 cds for the period in question and not only the Columbias; 44 cds (!!) in total) and Jazz Masters cds I suppose; most of these go for crazy prices nowadays... A huge gap then... we have for main early Duke on CD, -the Vocalion/Brunswick (pre '32) in that 3-cd set recently reissued by Universal Italy, -the Victor sides in the RCA 100th anniv. set, -the Columbia/Brunswick etc. sides 1932-40 in the great Mosaic set (great transfers) and Sony who has not yet managed to compile a comprehensive set of the labels they control for the pre-32 recordings... so dissapointing... I know there is an early 2cd set by CBS/Sony containing these early Duke recordings made for Columbia and Okeh from 1927 to 1930. http://www.amazon.com/Okeh-Ellington-Duke/dp/B00000274L but the transfers leave a lot to be desired.
