  1. Don't hate me! I'm so underwhelmed by the RVG reissue lists when they DO appear that I thought I'd write one of my own. I bet my list is better than the real one (when we get to see it)!
  2. I got this list a few days ago - I don't know why I didn't post it straight away. I am a bad man. But hey, they should put me in charge at Blue Note, right?
  3. I can't wait for this year's sale! No wait, don't delete the whole thread just to get rid of one annoying remark... nOOOOOOOOO!!
  4. I did a search for Roscoe the other day, and also searched for my own book (er... to check on its progress, you know...). I am pretty sure that is when it happened - but I have no way of working out WHAT happened! And yeah, I didn't use the word Roscoe even ONCE in that book!
  5. Back to the Iridium box. Is this in stores yet? What's the probable retail cost? I'll be in Boston in the near future - might they have this in Newbury Comics? I'm very demanding, aren't I?
  6. Unfortunately, many of these 1,500 Yen releases are remastered pretty loud. So unless you're looking for a specific title that you don't have and not an audio upgrade, these CDs aren't very appealing. This bums me out. I used to salivate over Japanese reissues, expecting them to sound better. Now that the Japanese mastering engineers have joined in the Loudness Wars, they're pumping out over-compressed music like everyone else. Kevin I agree about the sound. They are a good way to pick up otherwise hard-to-find titles. As far as the PJ titles go, some are remastered by RVG, others (newly) remastered by Ron McMaster. Don't ask me which ones. I guess people who like recent remasters by these two will know what to expect. The Japanese 1,500 yen TOCJ series was 24-bit mastered by Japanese Toshiba engineers, not by RVG or McMaster. Ohhhhhh. I was under the impression that the former SBJC titles were straight reissues. Am I wrong then?

  8. FWIW, a search on hmv.co.jp reveals many titles now in the 1500 yen price slot, including recently lots of the PJ titles that came out in the SBJC 24 bit series.
  9. Too weird. I can't work out how that happened.
  10. somebody please go to amazon.co.uk and type roscoe mitchell into the search box (search all of amazon.co.uk) if you see anything that doesn't fit pelase let me know
  11. So what? A long-winded and dull-minded article.
  12. I can add nothing to this exhaustive debate.
  13. Heh heh. Well he got me with that one - I was too busy thinking about my own gag - April 1st was days ago, right?
  14. I have mastered the art of resisting this compulsion. It took many years. When you can snatch the pebble from my hand etc.
  15. CP32 and CJ28 (CP32 was 3200 yen, CJ28 2800 yen) are the second (CP32) and later Japanese Blue Note CD issues from the 1980s. The CP32 series was released in 1985 if I remember correctly, the CJ28 series in 1988. As far as I know both series generally have Ron McMaster's masterings. Thanks for the warning!
  16. Just when I thought we'd all put this behind us.... We well know what the TOCJ are - can anyone tell me what the CJ28 and CP32 are??
  17. The following clarification is offered on the ECM website: Clear?
  18. Oh and I thought I should also post the track listing, mainly for Chuck's benefit: 1. I 2. II 3. III 4. IV 5. V 6. VI 7. VII 8. VIII 9. IX
  19. Ohhhhh - thanks. I saw that thread but I seem to have skim read the list... In UK April 9, but US releases of ECM seem usually to be later... Hilariously the product page for this CD at amazon.co.uk lists the following promotion: That should tempt anyone who is on the fence.
  20. oh I did a search but found nothing...
  21. Don't get too excited...
  22. What about this upcoming ECM release?
  23. He's had xxix years actually. Not wishing to be picky. (mmvii-mcmlxxviii=xxix)
  24. hey! It has a different flavor - depends what you are looking for, maybe... In a different vein, anyone listen to this kind of ambient thing by Outward Sound Ensemble (Canada) with some Brits: Thunder in a Clear Sky: OSE and special guests* (OS 0509) 77:04 Herb Bayley: trombone, trumpet, percussives Chris Meloche: electroacoustic prepared guitar, percussives Recorded live at Over the Top, Sheffield, England July 2, 2005 (Chris Trent) Herb Bayley overdubbed in London, Canada at Rough Cut Studios I don't really know anything about this British label - it is my first of theirs.
  25. A brief reminder of fundamentals to show Tony we haven't forgotten how it's done! Welcome back man! Hope you can hang around. (oh, and UMS rules!) PS Come to think about it I am considering forgetting how it's done, so that I can have the pleasure of reminding myself all over again! Case in point for this UMS classic.
