  1. Uhh - see you there guys! Care to meet up?
  2. Don't shoot the messenger
  3. As far as we can tell there is nothing new on this Machine Gun reissue? And the existing (and in print?) disk is already Brotzmann's best seller (according to amazon)? I don't get it.
  4. OK somebody talk me into buying the Max set. The clips on the site are barely even mediocre (hardly a good advertisement for the set!). Is there anything more to it than routine hardbop??
  5. How about a compilation of GG solos where he doesn't fluff?
  6. So that's your *last* one - what's your *next* one? (sheesh)
  7. I don't know Goodman's music at all well. On what I have heard I would rate him as the most perfect jazz instrumentalist of all time. Flame away.
  8. My thoughts exactly.
  9. This Berigan set is absolutely fantastic - I can hardly believe how good it is.
  10. And remember that Mosaic is half-owned by EMI.
  11. We stay logged in even when we are taking a snooze in the back room - we like to clock up the overtime.
  12. Hey! Isn't this a bit off topic? Oh wait...
  13. Maybe they could sell the numbers separately? That would be great, 'cause the numbers take up a lot less shelf space. Agreed. I threw mine away (I know, I know, ebay, but I'm a busy man...)
  14. For information, my set was 1992 and was one of the last. It seems likely that 2000 were made and sold. I really admire the editorial quality of this box and find it a scandal that another company is believed to have ripped off the editorial concept and the mastering wholesale.
  15. Props for DJ Lounge which I know is a board favorite.
  16. Doesn't the first disk usually carry that extra thrill... until you settle down and realise you have seven or eight disks that sound nearly all the same...
  17. Actually I struggle with the search function myself. These days if you enter more than one term it searches on both independently. It won't "search on a phrase" and it won't accept Boolean AND Algebra. That's enough about me. How was it for you?
  18. era of the lazy sod ECM covers: Oh yeah - TOO easy! Chickenshack is spot on! Maybe we also need to Blue Note-ize a few of those ECM titles. It's all in the marketing.
  19. So is it OK to talk about Great Ideas of Western Mann in this thread or is that no longer relevant? Sheesh, those guys in the Funny Rat thread are the same - just can't stay on topic.
  20. I caught a multi-episode catch-up of this when I was in the States a few weeks ago. It is coming to BBC I think so people in UK will be able to see it (it might have been on a channel I don't have over here already). I found it fair. I like Christopher Eccleston who is a fine British actor (and played Dr Who for its first comeback season). The rest of the acting was a bit characterless (common for US TV style). On another tele-topic, someone just recommended The Wire to me. It hasn't made it over here and I'd take quite a lot of persuading to buy a DVD set (I've never bought a DVD set, apart from the Boulez/Chereau Ring, and I think its fair to say I never will - I've watched about 4 DVDs in my entire life). I haven't seen this in the States either. Any fans of this series here?
  21. I wonder how quickly this is going to go. I'm nervous about ordering it this week as our office is moving on Friday and I'm worried about the shipping getting caught in the transition. Order it now and ask them to hold off on shipping it? I charge a consultancy fee by the way.
  22. Hmmmmm. I find the sound on this recording pretty disappointing...
  23. Happy Birthday!!! But today is MY birthday. How can that be? Hmmmm... I think I may have been mislead about this whole birthday business in my early formative years...
  24. Thanks guys! Thanks to my wife I'm passing it in the company of Bunny Berigan (set no. 1992 - how close to the wire was that!). Seriously, it is always good to pass virtual time on this board with you guys so thanks for the good wishes. Uhhh - now back to the subject of that photo...
