I knew Ware from Dark to Themselves, way back. Picked up Cryptography and the Columbia’s. Gave up and sold them (not DtK!). Dipping in again now to later recordings I do find something to enjoy.

Beethoven ruined music for everyone else, it's true. But we've got to have something. Otherwise it's Germany 1-0 ROW. And that cannot be. Cannot.

How much David Ware do we need? Maybe not much, I don't know, but there is some good squeaking on this one. Hadn't heard this group with Joe Morris before though there is a studio album with the same line-up recorded a little earlier the same month (Shakti). I quite enjoy the less piano-heavy sound.

Aren’t we all! Speaking of getting older moronically we are here streaming the bizarre BBC interview with Prince Andrew

They have gone from the merely beautiful to the absolutely transcendent... FWIW I’ve sampled some of these and heard things that could have been played fifty years ago or more.

While I can't see Mosaic doing it maybe, this music needs to be available. The Black Saint title (Dauhwe) is available for streaming/download, but the four Gramavision LPs and CDs were not reissued after the 1980s, I believe. To my mind the target should be the reissue of these four titles in whatever format - though to include Dauhwe would obviously make for a more artistically complete picture in terms of the compositions as a set. Would it do well? Arguably it could be a real event and would certainly do well with the jazz press, maybe with the music press more widely, and probably earn an award of some sort. That might not be enough of course. Maybe it needs an institutional funder. This music is often referenced as a benchmark but is hard to access and is still not widely known and celebrated. We are knee-deep in box sets that in some cases are fun but seem like over-documentation. This is a legacy issue: Lincoln, Smithsonian - take a look please! Just for ONCE a sensible suggestion on this board....

Previously unreleased Sam Rivers live recordings
David Ayers replied to Mark Stryker's topic in New Releases
And kudos to Rivers' estate for managing his legacy so well. -
They could have bought the tape and released it anyway.

Well, I’m just wondering. Spotify and other streaming services don’t work like YouTube where people can just put up what they like.

We have more than once mentioned on this board the question of so-called bootlegs. Without getting into questions regarding what is “legit” or not, I wonder if anyone else has any thoughts on this phenomenon on Spotify. I have noticed that older playlists, including my own, which contain many unauthorised concert recordings, have become depopulated, as formerly available recordings are blanked out. I am wondering if the large shareholders in Spotify, which includes the major record labels, are removing some of the stuff so as not to have to pay external sources, and direct attention to their own offerings.I don’t know, but I am wondering, in which case over time it seems we might start to take a more cautious view of streaming services. Any observations?

Laws governing radio broadcasts were and in some cases still are not the same in European countries. No World State just yet.

In what way do Sony have rights in this? And why do you care about Sony? The label don’t own the recording. They licensed it from a company in Cyprus. Does that company own the recording? Perhaps you will assert that they don’t. Years ago this board went down the path of obsessions and ranting about what is ‘legit’. It has never recovered, sadly.

Very much a Cinderella album this one. I passed on the Collectors Choice way back when, was unaware of the TOCJ, finally picked up the UCCQ. In truth, I’d forgotten about the extra tracks...

Cue nostalgia/anger/whateveritude for all the extra tracks never seen before or since in that reissue series.

Well...let that be a lesson to you... -

Maybe. Larry? -
What happened? It seems to have vanished.

That Murray track is just grim.
