  1. At the opposite end to the fine BN quartet/quintet material collected by Mosaic (Stanley Turrentine – Blue Note Stanley Turrentine/Sextet Sessions) are my real favorites, the late-release BN sessions collected as Return of the Prodigal Son (Stanley Turrentine – Return Of The Prodigal Son) and A Bluish Bag (Stanley Turrentine – A Bluish Bag) [all links are to Spotify].
  2. The Hackett can be found as stream or (usually inexpensive) d/l in the Capitol Vaults Jazz Series.
  3. Lon's right - in the end I don't see how anyone tackling Mingus is not going to get around to all of that excellent and varied material. ...INCLUDING the Atlantic (just the box for me...) and Impulse!
  4. Don't see details on universalmusic.it yet though did see that the Basie Decca set on 3CDs with original booklet is out - not sure if we discussed that.
  5. So - a timely response to my request for no more conspiracy theories.....
  6. So, people here have stolen this. The 'Andorrans' haven't. And the topic becomes how 'they' are thieves. Talk about projection.
  7. We measure things on this board in terms of recorded output and product purchase. That makes us a tiny minority. Streaming and/or internet-is-your-friending mean you just don't have to go about home-listening in the same way. How many recordings do you love so much you keep coming back to them? not many, and for that reason you certainly don't need to 'own' them. And I don't know about anyone else but for me to hear someone in concert can last me ten years or a lifetime - I had the experience, that's what I want. Braxton and Brotzmann keep coming up. I have most certainly stopped buying Braxton records. Not only have I got too many, but I also notice that stores which stock jazz/improv seriously stock very few Braxton titles, which makes me think that the Braxton micro-market has folded - could be wrong. To say nothing of the fact that his best release ever is still OOP! The Brotzmann's I pick up if I feel like it, not because I expect anything new but just like packs of chewing-gum - just a little re-assurance in a changing world. So for me while I did learn about music by following the model now is strictly dipping and dabbling. It is hard to dissociate the topic here, about following an artist, from questions of changing economies and technologies of consumption. All stuff I've said before, I know
  8. I recently referenced a book on flow states in jazz, if that helps.
  9. OK...I'm puzzling over how come the link is to last year's article describing sales in 2012... I think you meant to link to this http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/jan/01/uk-entertainment-spending-film-music-streaming
  10. Glue. Needs its own thread.
  11. Actually I did check your original site - not the one you now list - and the redirect you mention has only now appeared dated January 2 2014. At that site the discographies had already been removed so it was reasonable to conclude that the project had ended. Perhaps this thread can now be unpinned in any case?
  12. With no disrespect to anyone, does this thread need to be pinned?
  13. Agreed on quality, and most of this if not all seems to be around so I don't know what is new. Don't know if you browsed this guy's website but it is a weird set -up. His stuff is on Spotify, though not this one yet, so it is easy to check it out.
  14. I didn't even read the piece - life is too short - and I can't listen to vinyl a the moment - but - it absorbs me in a way digital never has. Ever.

Also we hear the first performance of Coltrane on soprano Saxophone · Includes rare 30 minute version of ‘Liberia’ compared to the 7 minute Lp version and another rarity ‘The Night has a thousand eyes’ · The song ‘Delilah’ by Victor Young performed at Copenhagen 1961 would never be recorded again so its inclusion in this set makes it also a rare jewel.
  16. 7 CDs? Read the small print. http://www.easyaction.co.uk/label/birdland/product/360-john-coltrane-ltd-6-cd-box-7-single-traneing-in
  17. You're right, I don't want them There's talk that old perm-head might be replacing Gergiev at the LSO. Not sure that's something I could easily get used to...
  18. The other day I put on Curtis Amy, who was just blazing hot, I was amazed. I had really no idea he had those kind of chops. Lasted a few tunes before he turned out to be Bill Barron. Quite an educative mis-click.
  19. Not changing my vote but I agree that the Elvin is a great box in terms of album sequence - it feels like a really interesting and generous box.
  20. The same remastering.
  21. The new booklet is soft cover, but nicely printed on good paper, full color.
  22. Bit puzzled by the Scotch tape in that image until I checked my box.... [that is the material from the can on disc 7]
  23. The tracklist at universal.it is here, showing the correct Traneing In. These are stated to be remastered, though that doesn't always mean anything. http://www.universalmusic.it/jazz/artista/discografia/?ida=306689
  24. I did just open my copy of the budget box and it contains a very nice 74-page booklet. Never saw the booklet in the original set but this one is just fine - essays, lots of photos, discographical information. Pretty good actually.
