Do you mean the coin (aka "Loonie") or the worth-more-than-the-US-currency itself?

Does anyone have a track list, or other details? The Artist Share site has no information available, just pricing and ordering info... If this is what I believe it to be, I've heard it all (via Don Thompson) and it'll be great. The talk about money is all relevant (for some of us more than others), but when it comes to music, I can recommend it. It's likely I was there when it was being played -- I never missed Jim's work with Don and Terry at Bourbon Street. (Is it really three-and-a-half decades ago???)

Somehow, I have the "Alone Together" (with Flip AND Michael Moore) only on cassette (Town Crier TC 515). And there's a duo with Moore on "Inner Voices" that's fine, too. (TC 512). They are on very good quality cassettes, mind you, but I think I'll put 'em onto CDRs for convenience. (edited for lazy searching) Whoops! A deeper search on the CD shelves found "Along Together" under Flip's name. Will move it to the Britto slot, and start a new search under Moore for "Inner Voices"...

Saw and heard Carol a lot in Toronto, of course. She had the house trio at 'Lytes' jazz room in the Royal York Hotel, and for a couple of years backed all the major names. I recall Benny Carter being very taken with her playing. Carol was a big baseball fan, and often subbed for the regular organist at the Blue Jays games at the old Exhibition Stadium in the late '70s and early '80s. She knew hundreds and hundreds of tunes, and could always be counted on to play an appropriate one for the situation. (But never, of course, Three Blind Mice).

I just cut and pasted the this. Didn't notice the extra "of". With respect to the quote, as nearly as I can determine, neither it nor its more famous cousin, "If you build it, he will come." is from the book. Terrence Mann is the movie equivalent of J.D. Salinger, who was in Kinsella's original novel. As to the attribution, I appreciate the thought, but I'm more interested in the message itself than I am in who wrote it. Thanks for the correction -- it makes sense now, and it's a fine quotation. (Go Blue Jays!) I still disagree with your attribution, though. I think the writer should be credited, whether that's W.P. Kinsella in the novel "Shoeless Joe", though as you say it may not be in the book; or the screenwriter/director of "Field of Dreams", Phil Alden Robinson. -

There's an amusing book by A.J. Jacobs called "The Know-It-All", wherein he tells of his efforts in reading the complete Encyclopedia Britannica. It's described as One Man's HUMBLE QUEST to become the SMARTEST PERSON in the World. It's from 2004, but it looks like it wouldn't be created after today... -

Um, Dave... In your signature line is this an accurate quotation?: "It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again." That first *of* seems wrong. And maybe credit should be given to the author of the source novel 'Shoeless Joe' W.P. Kinsells, rather than a fictional character. Or perhaps the screenplay writer -- I don't know which writer wrote the actual quotation. (Edited to clarify). -
Exactly MY thoughts!

"oogling" is better than Googling -- you can actually touch them! -

I'm with you... I liked the Ellington set, and the Waller is the same as the US set offered by Popmarket. No missing tracks -- both have 66 sides. When I put the Euro set in my computer, the album cover that shows up is the US long box cover. As to "complete" sets, I have the JSP sets, and am happy with them. And did RCA ever finish their "complete" series? Am I misremembering, or did it poop out, undone after being 3/4ths finished? Or was it simply years before they finally polished it off? -
True. I responded before using the link. I've never heard of Crown tapes... Sorry. (But them Crown machines wuz bad!)
-
We had a few Crowns at a radio station I worked at. Worst machine EVER for tape handling! But excellent electronics... The best tape recorder ever made was the Ampex 350. In the world of machines its only equivalent in the Douglas DC 3 aircraft. Maybe a c.1950s dial phone...

Lester Young/Basie Set Selling Well
Ted O'Reilly replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
That is one fine release, and it was at a very fine price. Why indeed did it disappear so quickly? I'm told it's going at ridiculous prices on ebay. That release showed the majors could beat the bootleggers at their own game...but as it seems to be a one-off, they choose NOT to do it. -
I thought I'd bump this topic, as I've found an online excerpt at http://www.pointofdeparture.org/PoD38/PoD38BookCooks_Miller.html If you've never read a Mark Miller book before, this excerpt will show his clean prose style, combined with deep research and insight into Lonnie's personality. Miller deserves great credit for putting this important artist's music in the light again. Just Google "Way Down That Lonesome Road: Lonnie Johnson in Toronto, 1965-1970" for dozens of reviews and availabilities.

bacon in a milk shake. would you try it?
Ted O'Reilly replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'm halfway through a jar of bacon marmalade from Loblaw's, Canada's largest food retailer... "This marmalade has a warm, sweet-savoury aroma, a rich texture, and a flavour that combines citrusy tang with a subtle shout-out of bacon. PC’s most talked-about ‘Black Label’ item is not a mad, rad concoction for foodie types but simply a marmalade with a twist (it lists sugar as its first ingredient; bacon is seventh). Ordinary folks will use it as a condiment and cooks will want to experiment with it in the kitchen..." (From http://shelflifetastetest.com/?p=3560) -
Does your copy have my name in pencil on the back? Look in the upper right hand corner. I'll wait while you check.

Hmmm... Sounds like a Zen koan. I'll have to work on it for a while.
-
Clunky, and JSangrey... I'm glad I was able to steer you to "Songs For Rainy Day Lovers". Now, if the person I lent my copy to would please return it (whoever you are!), I'd be able to hear it again myself.
