  1. Keep refreshing but nothing yet. Can't wait.
  2. I missed out on that New Life Trio, it's sold out now and people are trying to flip it for ridiculous sums already. The label confirmed they will be re-pressing it, so I'll keep my eyes out.
  3. The Jimmy Smith was part of a 1999 mini subseries of sessions that had never been released in any form. In total it was: Jimmy Smith - Cool Blues Bobby Hutcherson - The Kicker Dizzy Reece - Comin' On Lou Donaldson - Man With A Horn Grant Green - Blues For Lou Art Blakey - Drums Around The Corner v/a - The Lost Sessions I'm glad to have them all, but imo only the Reece stands up on its own; the rest are nice but a bit below average vs. the leaders' other output.
  4. The first CD copy of Steve Lacy/Don Cherry's Evidence I bought had a different album on it. I'm assuming it was another Prestige or OJC family label title, but at the time I couldn't pick it out.
  5. Knew I was forgetting something! I do have this on the Prestige twofer CD with Bird On 52nd St. Much appreciation for the various recommendations! Some good leads to follow.
  6. Definitely have this!
  7. I'm sure this thread has been done before, but if you'll humor me, I'm wondering if there are any particularly notable Bird CDs you'd recommend for someone such as myself who already has the following: Label Box Sets: -Complete Savoy & Dial (official Savoy and Stash issues, respectively) -Complete Verve (official issue) -Complete Live Performances on Savoy (official issue) Blue Note Issue CDs: -Washington Concerts -Bird At The Hi Hat -Bird & Diz At Carnegie Hall -Charlie Parker At Storyville Various other: -The Quintet - Jazz At Massey Hall -Charlie Parker (Bird At St. Nicks/Bird On 52nd Street) -Live Performances (ESP) -Rara Avis (Stash) -Bird You Never Heard (Stash) -Town Hall, New York City June 22, 1945 (Uptown) Not looking to go the total completist route, but always open to having more to hear.
  8. More vinyl, but I'm glad they pressed this up: https://www.dustygroove.com/item/979417?kwfilter=Alan+Braufman&incl_oos=1&incl_cs=1&sort_order=artist Streaming version is here: https://alanbraufman.bandcamp.com/album/live-at-wkcr-may-22-1972
  9. PM sent on Bobby Charles
  10. Listed under Upcoming Releases at ezz-thetics: (Hopefully the albums will be presented in their entirety, of course)

    Evan Parker

As respectfully as I can put it, I have not found a way to understand what he’s trying to accomplish with his music (if anything) in quite a long time and have pretty much given up on following his work, so .... fine with me. Morally this is reprehensible but musically it sounds absolutely dreadful as well.
  12. RIP. For my money, Tones For Jones Bones & Now He Sings, Now He Sobs are two of the absolute best jazz records ever made, and just the tip of the iceberg in terms of his accomplishments.
  13. I think you'll be quite pleased. I've only had a chance to listen to it a couple times but there's lots to hear on this one.
  14. There’s a copy for $10 on ebay right now, pretty good deal. I definitely paid a little more for mine.
  15. This should be a good one: https://www.dustygroove.com/item/974010?sf=joe+mcphee&incl_oos=1&incl_cs=1&kwfilter=joe+mcphee&sort_order=artist
  16. Squidco just got theirs yesterday, so I would imagine DG’s will show soon. Definitely an unusually long lag this time around. I scooped up the Rivers, RED Trio, & Takayanagi discs + the new Blasé/Yasmina on ezz-thetics before they go OOS.

Some other sideman dates I enjoy: -David Egyes - Crossroads -Khan Jamal - Infinity & Black Awareness -Dwight James - Inner Heat The co-leader CIMP disc Philadelphia Spirit In New York is pretty excellent as well A little more outside the jazz realm, I also love the Garret List & Napoleon Cherry (Cool Waters) records he plays on. Very cool and interesting player, but a bit of a challenge to collect at times.
  18. Listed as Upcoming at Squidco: Cecil Taylor Quintet featuring Harri Sjostrom, Tristan Honsinger, Teppo Hauta-aho, Paul Lovens: Lifting The Bandstand Listen! Foundation (Fundacja Sluchaj!) Very happy to finally see one of Cecil’s groups get an archival release (and especially this one!); since his passing, only solos & duos with Oxley and Dixon have seen release.
  19. Andrew Cyrille - The Declaration of Musical Independence
  20. This latest batch sure is taking its time making its way stateside.
  21. A massive loss. What a legacy. RIP.
  22. Pretty disappointing to hear about the editing and all the rest. And since we're bitching, it just seems like there were problems all around with this one. I had initially planned to order the CD from Amazon, but it was immediately out of stock, so I placed an order with a record store. A couple weeks went by without a shipping notice, and when I inquired, they said all their copies came with 2 of the same disc and they were waiting on replacements, something I hear happened with the LPs as well. I'll be happy to have it when I finally do get it, but this seems like a misstep all around. I'd call it a rush job, but they announced this almost annoyingly far in advance.
  23. I'm definitely a fan of his solo and sax ensemble works, but I'm hoping some of those loft-era jazz groups are represented as well.
  24. My assumption is that is has something to do with this. Very interested to get some more details. https://wp.nyu.edu/library-hemphill_papers/
