Fingers crossed for a CT Black Forest CD.

The Sam Rivers title was mentioned in another thread, but NB is releasing several other awesome-looking discs at the same time: Joel Futterman - Creation Series 5xCD box set http://nobusinessrecords.com/creation-series.html Total Music Association - Walpurgisnacht archival reissue of a 1971 LP http://nobusinessrecords.com/total-music-association-walpurgisnacht.html Mototeru Takagi - Live At Little John, Yokohama 1999 http://nobusinessrecords.com/live-at-little-john,-yokohama-1999.html Itaru Oki - Live at Jazz Spot Combo 1975 http://nobusinessrecords.com/live-at-jazz-spot-combo-1975.html Szilard Mezai Tubass Quintet - Rested Turquoise http://nobusinessrecords.com/rested-turquoise.html Rodrigo Amado Motion Trio + Alexander Von Schlippenbach - The Field http://nobusinessrecords.com/the-field.html The label is offering all these at a package price. 72 euro shipped worldwide without the Futterman box, 110 with it. "All of them should be ready to be sent out around the 20th July, 2021"

Another roundup of recent & upcoming releases of note: -Two new William Parker trio albums from Aum Fidelity. One with Daniel Carter & Hamid, the other with Ava Mendoza & Gerald Cleaver https://aumfidelity.com/ -Matthew Shipp/Whit Dickey duo on Burning Ambulance. It took me time, but I came around to these frequent Shipp/Dickey/Perelman/Wooley musical chair releases. These are guys who undoubtedly can all play and, contrary to my initial apprehensions, are pushing themselves deeper all the time. The recent Ivo/Nate duo on BA is fantastic https://matthewshippwhitdickey.bandcamp.com/album/reels -Wandering The Sound Quintet on Not Two. Mazur, Gregorio, Tamura, Fuji, and Lopez; a combination of musicians I will always be down to hear -Butcher/Solberg/Barre Phillips on Relative Pitch https://relativepitchrecords.bandcamp.com/album/we-met-and-then -Duck Baker - Confabultions. Encounters dating 1994-2017 with an interesting range of players https://duckbakeresp.bandcamp.com/album/confabulations -Rodrigo Amado Motion Trio + Alexander Schlippenbach - The Field. Not yet formally announced on NoBusiness, but hopefully coming very soon. Also really looking forward to the new This Is Our Language album on Trost -Keith Rowe - Absence. His final solo guitar performance. https://www.erstwhilerecords.com/store/p268/Keith_Rowe_-_Absence_%28CD%29.html

ymmv, much of his work is sort of community-based, political, and in continuation of certain strains of post-60s black urban art. In that context, I like it and appreciate it very much, particularly the two Positive Knowledge albums on Music & Arts (there's also a 2xCD on another label that adds Wilbur Morris & Michael Wimberly that's good). If you appreciate some of the more text-based spiritual jazz & spoken word of the 70s, or William Parker's vocal projects, I think you'll find a lot to like here. If you're looking for something more straightforward, his date on NoBusiness with Wimberly & Sirone is quite good and the duo with Henry Grimes on Not Two is nice.

Another (2xCD) 90s CT archival release from Fundacja Słuchaj on the horizon. Looks amazing: https://sluchaj.bandcamp.com/album/gottingen "Do you remember the legendary CD Legba Crossing released on FMP? Of course, you do! Each Cecil Taylor's music fan does it! Two years later Ove Volquartz assembled almost the same line-up and brought Cecil Taylor to Gottingen to work with the legendary artist longer and more intense. Here you have the whole monumental concert they gave on September 15th! What is the difference? Fundamental as always in the case of such great visionaries like Cecil was! Here, additionaly Mr. Taylor performs not only as a director and conductor but also as a full-time pianist!!!!!!! So let's discover what happened in 1990 at Junges Theater in Gottingen!!!!!"

Strange little catalogue, with the 2 mainstream titles in there. You can get the Birigwa and Natural Food albums on CD from Porter still. Both are interesting in a time capsule sense I guess, but neither did much for me. ymmv.

Another LP reissue of this one is coming. I'm not sure how official it is, but it's got better distribution than the recent boot LP (and, I would hope, won't have the pressing flaw): https://forcedexposure.com/Catalog/brown-marion-le-temps-fou-musique-du-film-de-marcel-camus-lp/LTJC.012LP.html https://www.strandedrecords.com/products/marion-brown-le-temps-fou-musique-du-film-de-marcel-camus-lp?_pos=1&_sid=14dabb5cd&_ss=r

Sonics on the Paul Bley ezz-thetics CD are excellent, I'd recommend picking it up for anyone who likes this music. A little disappointing that only "Blood" is represented from that album due to space limitations, but this will definitely be my go-to for Touching.
-
NoBuisness released an excellent 2xCD that has the Anima date New York Collage paired with an unreleased session. Highly recommended. Sweet Space and Untitled Gift are both great as well. Frank Lowe on the former, Don Cherry on the latter. They were released as a CD set in 2004, but you'd be better off searching for the original LPs as that one is very hard to come by.

Charles Mingus at the Jazz Workshop "Right Now"
colinmce replied to Gheorghe's topic in Recommendations
This record has an excellent companion in Roach's Speak Brother, Speak-- another Jazz Workshop session from two years earlier, also a lean quartet with Clifford Jordan, also two long tracks, also with the whole band playing at their peak. -
Charles Mingus at the Jazz Workshop "Right Now"

One of his very best records. He definitely played the best bass of his life in 64/65, especially after the Europe tour if you ask me. -
I don't have it anymore, but I did like it when it came out. It's a very odd record; Motian barely playing, Mehldau playing very weird stuff, Konitz off in his own world practically .... I never even noticed what Haden was up to. It's an interesting one for sure that I might like to revisit.

ECM(?!!) reissuing Verve titles from the 60's? - in the early 90's?
colinmce replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Discography
I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure he purchased the rights to these albums rather than leased them. -
Not fantastically so, but definitely a bit drier and more “true”. Certainly worth hearing but I must say that I’ve only spun the original LPs a couple times each vs. many dozens of the ECM.
-
Feels like at the very least a missed opportunity to reissue the 1961 albums with the original Verve mixes ...

Also still looking! Really tough one. -
I spent the week listening through this set, very very good.

Thank you sir, much appreciated! Luckily Scott was able to help me out with this, but I will skim over this while I wait for the real one to arrive. -
LF: Charlie Parker Mosaic Booklet

Waiting to hear back, here’s hoping. -
I am wondering if anyone has an extra booklet for the Parker set that they would be willing to part with? Thanks.
-
Yes! He was on the tip of my tongue. Beyond those 3 I know I've encountered it here & there but that's what I know for sure from modern times off the top of my head .

Braxton has played it before (most notably on the 1985 UK tour recordings), and Allen Lowe uses it pretty often too!
