  1. My sole slab of FMP vinyl. Great one.
  2. Yep, that's how I got mine. Picked up the other 2 at the same time from Amazon for $14/ea. Very nice-looking sets, though they're very hard to navigate since the admittedly cobbled-together albums are so thoroughly deconstructed.
  3. Very shocking, very sad.
  4. Wow, truly dreadful cover! Love the music inside, though.
  5. FWIW the Black Lions I was referring to/price-checked were the old ones, not the 1201s.
  6. The Vogue material is available on a CD called Piano Solo. The Black Lion is available on 3 separate CDs. There is a set of all 3 but that tends to cost more than the 3 discs individually. Looking at Amazon you can get all 4 CDs at the marketplace for $23.66 + 15.96 shipping, running a shade under $40. Pricewise it sure beats the Mosaic.
  7. Me, too -- and I once felt that Rollins probably was the most important living artist in any field. I stopped following him around the same time. Then, at some point, I came back. I'm not enamored of everything he's done since the 1970s (and I haven't heard everything), but some of it is stunning - and some of the rest is pretty good. I'm glad I came back. But I understand - kind of. I have also ignored Sonny's post-60s output, but I once listened to an interview with Marty Ehrlich where he made a convincing case for at least listening to what Sonny Rollins has to say no matter what. Since then I've made an effort to give some of the more recent discs a listen. It's not Newk's Time but that's not the point. I don't think this reasoning holds water in most other cases, and I don't know that Marty was arguing that it did, but for whatever reason when it comes to Rollins, I'm inclined to agree.
  8. The thing I miss most about record stores-- indeed the thing that's crucial about record stores-- is the random, limited selection. This, in my mind, is how a strong, interesting record collection gets built, especially with regard to used records, which is 90% of what I buy for cost reasons. Having not stepped foot in a record store for 3 1/2 years has had a distinct effect on the building of my collection. Shopping online, it's very hard to know where to begin when faced with essentially every record that ever existed, and factoring in shipping makes a huge dent cashwise, in particular with vinyl which I consequently buy very little of anymore. In Iowa City I browsed the two record stores (one jazz-oriented ... o the pain and anguish!) several times a week. It was fun and therapeutic. I miss it very much.
  9. I need to re-buy that one. The LP I have is jacked beyond oblivion. But it's such a beautiful album.
  10. Looking forward to the 2xCD. I'd love to get the box at some point, but it's just so expensive. But a truly incredible group. I picked up Spirits Rejoice from a board member a couple months ago. As I'm sure you know, you're in for a good one. Evan Parker has a seriously ripping solo on the opening track.
  11. Tom Rainey & Ingrid Laubrock have a duo forthcoming on Relative Pitch.
  12. I'll add another: a repress of Joe Maneri - Paniots Nine.
  13. Currently en route, should have them Monday. The Percussion Quartet didn't quite gel with me upon release but spinning it this last week it clicked right in place. Great band there.
  14. I'd do all 3 for $15 shipped.
  15. The lot is sold. I like both the Osby and Morgan records a lot. Just didn't see myself listening to them in the future. The Osby I decided to hold onto was Banned In New York with Jason Moran.
  16. Also offering the 3xCD compilation: Africa in America: Music From 19 Countries (Corason/Musica Tradicional) for $9 shipped.
  17. $10 shipped in the US for the both together: Otis Spann is the Blues (Candid) V/A: Blues Masters Vol.2: Postwar Chicago Blues (Rhino)
  18. A good one. Originals of this title have been going balistic of late so the MM is 'good value'. This is the only Hubbard BN I don't have so I guess I should get on it!
  19. OOP 3xCD box set on Blue Note. Asking $20 shipped in US. International at cost. Like new condition.
  20. That also came out in the Verve Elite CD series in the late 90s.
