  1. Thanks for the rundown, I was intrigued by this event.
  2. I cannot lie...I don't own it! I swear if you post part 2 I'll grab it!
  3. 4. Billy Bang never played an indifferent note to my ears.
  5. Thirded! I got the deal of a lifetime on a Braxton box set that I'll never forget. This is the way it should be done. Thanks indeed.
  6. I also bought some Mark Whitecage today. Hope to go back for a few more from the cleanfeed sale if it's still on next week.
  7. Certainly sounds PD.
  8. Gah!! No JAZZ REALITIES?
  9. The way I see it, you can go elsewhere for fire and intensity. Not every player has to bring that. I appreciate her music for what it is (though I don't mean to discount your alls impression of her playing...subjectivity rules the day) If you want to hear Tom Rainey absolutely burn the house down, listen to Tim Berne's The Shell Game.
  10. The first volume of the Creative Music Studios Archive Collection is due for release. 3 CDs of small ensembles, orchestras and world music. Some really intriguing stuff here! http://www.innova.mu/albums/creative-music-studio/archive-selections-vol-1 Small groups with Blackwell & Brackeen, a David Izenon trio, Oppens & Rzewski and Emery & Jenkins. Orchestras by Oliver Lake, Olu Dara & Roscoe Mitchell.
  11. My wife will be out of town when they're in New Orleans, so that's a no-go .... sure would've liked to try. I'm always glad to see jazz musicians take a chance on a punk rock-style tour like this. I wish more did.
  12. What's that? New?
  13. I simply fail to see what makes these different from anything. Some of these titles have been done on HQ CD by Acoustic Sounds and EMI Japan and vinyl by Music Matters, Heavenly Sweetness, and (yes, I know) Scorpio in just the last 3 years. I bet these run close to $30 and offer what exactly beyond what exists? Unless you really want to drop real $$ on a a Stefon Harris album you could get on CD for 50 cents....
  14. I don't think there's an emoticon to express just how far back my eyes are rolling. This is getting comical.
  15. Francois Houle & Havard Wilk - Aves $0.06 Wonderful clarinet & piano duo http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00DQF1YK6/ref=sr_1_2_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1393508888&sr=8-2&keywords=francois+houle&condition=used
  16. Kevin Whitehead did a very nice, very poignant review of Wess' last album for NPR: http://www.npr.org/2014/02/11/275265524/in-session-frank-wess-magic-201-offers-one-last-lesson
  17. Hm, I might be inclined to agree, though I like Goldberg rather than love him. The Waits group might throw off more sparks.
  18. FWIW it is available as a download from Amazon for about 6 bucks. I might go that route even though I'm not really a downloading type.
  19. Been looking around for this one since it was posted in this thread a year and a half ago. Still never found anything less than ~$40
  20. Rejoice, Leeway, for part 2 of the Roscoe Mitchell/Craig Taborn/Kikanju Baku sessions are out in April. Also some nice ones from No Business coming up: Max Johnson/Laubrock/Maneri/Fujiwara, Rodrigo Amado Trio w/ Peter Evans & Ajamian/Malaby/Mazurek/Chad Taylor
  21. Yeah: http://books.google.com/books?id=j2yel0bY6LYC&pg=PA198&lpg=PA198&dq=steve+lacy+jimmy+giuffre&source=bl&ots=Z0k8uym1wi&sig=KNZCj1WIOiDha1o9EpcZXFDTRiE&hl=en&sa=X&ei=64EJU8b9CsKVygHZh4HACA&ved=0CDoQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=steve%20lacy%20jimmy%20giuffre&f=false
  22. Marvellous I've wondered about this one . I've had mixed experience of No Business pressings . How's this one? No complaints here. Except the price ....
  23. On again, though this portion of the site has crashed both times I tried to load up my cart.
  24. Yep. Someone recently reproduced a quote from Lacy here about how they didn't really gel. Which is not surprising to me at all.
