  1. Agreed, it wouldn't be huge: Trickles, Troubles, The Condor, The Cry, Vespers, Revenue ... I think that's it-- 7 discs.
  2. Steve Lacy Horo box next, right?
  3. Seriously! That's my favorite Ayler, great to see the pictures.
  4. Von Freeman's wonderful The Great Divide has just been reissued on vinyl by Premonition (and remastered for the medium, fwiw): http://www.dustygroove.com/item/670454 (better cover, too). There's also this: Joe McPhee - Nation Time: The Complete Recordings (4xCD) http://www.dustygroove.com/item/675969 ???
  5. It's almost certainly an LP rip. And that's likely the source of the problem, too. Frankly, I've never noticed it, but I've only listened to it on my stereo. Great records both; I tend to forget about them because I mostly spin 80s/90s Lacy albums.
  6. Looks like a dream, especially the Boeren All-Ellington group.
  7. I am several volumes behind on the Bootleg Series but I look forward to hearing this. Put me in the pro 69-74 Dylan camp, I love those records.
  8. Me either, but to be fair it's the nickname of a grant given to them by someone else.
  9. I could see it, but could definitely see others before it. The Fischer & Steig sets are fairly obscure but were reissued on the strength of your intense admiration of them. Both are records I never would have checked out without your word. If you see the Garabek-- which I haven't heard-- as good rather than essential, then don't do it just for ease. I'm sure there's another neglected work out there you believe in more.
  10. No complaints here, big fans of both. Congrats especially to Mr Denk, a great performer and writer.
  11. Huh, I had no idea. Personally, I'm a big fan of the 1994 BBC set. That was a tremendously exciting release at the time.
  12. Pamplamousse? No no no! You can do waaaay better! These are the great American indie bands of the 90s that may not mix jazz with rock, but make brilliant and interesting music you definitely need to know. Pavement Built To Spill Yo La Tengo Sleater-Kinney Low Of course, there are a lot of directions you can take but I think these bands might make a wide gateway.
  13. Two nice looking new arrivals at JazzLoft: -Dennis Gonzalez - Yells at Eels: Colorado at Clintoin (Ayler) -Peter Evans/Evan Parker/Craig Taborn/Sam Pluta - Rocket Science (More is More)
  14. I got this very same LP in a shop years ago for $2 mint. Still haven't felt motivated to play it. I should put it on tomorrow.
  15. I had more than a dozen big boxes and 25 or so Selects. I had to sell them all due to financial problems so I'm living this thread! The one Select I did keep was the Carter-Bradford. I really miss the Randy Weston and would like that back most of all. If I could get one of the big boxes back, it'd be the Tal Farlow.
  16. Sad news...
  17. Perfect sound or not, BS&TSL spread across 4 sides is a terrible idea, and I couldn't possibly recommend that less.
  18. The latest batch from No Business: -Elton Dean/Paul Dunmall/Paul Rogers/Tony Bianco - Rememberance -Fabric Trio — Murmurs -Adam Lane/Darius Jones/Vijay Anderson — Absolute Horizon -Howard Riley - Live with Repertoire -Red Trio - Rebento -John Tchicai/Cecil McBee/Garrison Fewell/Charlie K — Tribal Ghost
  19. Rules are rules, and so be it, but I agree with Rooster_Ties: old aircheck LPs seem a far cry from a "jazzmessengers.com" type CD product. If the OP wanted a Harry James or Casa Loma aircheck instead of Coltrane, would it be an issue?
  20. Equal to less. Take it where you can get it.

Monk also spoke kindly of Denny Zeitlin, so if you haven't checked him out ...
  22. Wow, disappointing/worrying.
  23. Who's on that one? Billy Harper?
  24. Looking forward to hearing it. I'm largely anti-flute, but I trust Mr Horwich and love Denny Zeitlin, so we'll see.
  25. Yes, a very good one and rather hard to come across. Hal McKusick is another huge selling point.
