  1. Similar in the fact that his sound is not as rough as say Sonny Rollins, nor as mellow as Lester Young or Stan Getz.
  2. Nope. Just asked for my name and address.
  3. I think they split up sometime around 1970, though I may be wrong. Absolutely love Stanley's sound and playing. Instantly identifiable; BIG and soulful. Have you bought the Blue Hour sessions with Gene Harris and The Three Sounds? Some find it sleep-inducing but its tough to find a more soulful sounding Mr. T. That was my first Stanley album. Bought it two years ago. It's pretty good.
  4. Great saxophonist. I love his sound. I don't think many people rave about him at all, even now. I been buying a lot of his albums lately. I love Sugar on CTI. His sound is in the class of Hank Mobley. Very soulful. How long was he married to Shirley? Did they ever split up?
  5. Who's doing the filming on these things?
  6. its taken care of.
  7. still waiting....

  12. It was Tower's Going Out Of Business. They said no returns!
  13. I looked at the BN site. Is there an email I could write to?
  14. I bought Royal Flush at Tower's closing sale yesterday. I just opened it. The second page has the Cooker booklets! This is b.s. I really wanted to read about Royal Flush..
  15. What about the eighties though...?
  16. He was so great!
  17. Return to Forever: Light As A Feather Return to Forever: Hym of the Seventh Galaxy Pat Metheny: Bright Size Life Stanley Turrentine: Sugar George Benson: Bad Benson Chuck Mangione Quartet: Alive Modern Jazz Quartet: Last Concert There's much more, I just can't think of any right now.
  18. Pat Martino Consciousness. Pretty much all of Martino's 70 albums.
  19. So, did you talk to Brubeck, Desmond, Morello or even Gene Wright about this? Some of us been there, done that. Actually, yeah, kinda. Morello told me the whole story when I used to study with him.
  20. Desmond was intrigued by Morello's 5/4 experimentations? First of all, he hated Morello's drumming, and Brubeck said Desmond didn't even want to write a song in 5/4.
  21. Yes, this is the track from "Shape of jazz to come". Not the same tune as the Horace Silver tune from "Song for my father". MG What the fuck is this? dont fuck with me
  22. We were talking about Horace Silver's Lonley Women from Song for my Father.
  23. I was just checking out Song For My Father on cdnow. I have the lp so, I never heard the extra takes. I think the trio version of Que Pasa is way better than the take used on the album.
