  1. Max Roach has a great feal! He also plays some of the most colorful and inventive drum solos I have ever heard.
  2. This ain't pop music! Drum solos can be very inventive. Why can't the drummers get enough room to express themselves than say a sax player or a piano player......?
  3. Why?
  4. I dont know if anyone really cares, but I get my music from a mixture of Borders, old record shops, Amazon, and YourMusic. Every so often, I download from I-tunes. Thing about that is you don't get no liner notes or credits.
  5. Neat site! I have shall give you a listen!
  6. I don't like Dave Weckl, or Billy Cobham. Most of those fusion drummers, I have no taste for. Seems they play way too loud, and too many stuff, and the setting they're in, usually doesn't do it for me.
  7. Why is the sound so distorted?
  8. The Egiptian. Art Blakey His sound is very unique!
  9. Nah, it was a low point.
  10. I love this album! I just bought the RVG two weeks ago. Most reviewers hated it on bluenote.com. What are your thoughts? I actually like the pop tunes, but the bop numbers are also excellent. Kind of depressing though, knowing what a low point Mobley was going to be shortly after and during the time of this release. He still plays very good. George Benson plays great.
  11. Sure! What do I got to do to get a copy or whatever?

    RVGs

I dig it too. I have it on vinyl. It reminds me of Kenny Burrell's Midnight Blue.
  13. Does anybody have it that can sell it to me, or something. I don't wanna say anything that's illegal, because that usually gets me in trouble. I just want to see this program.

When does the next batch of RVG's come out. And where do you find out what titles are being reissued.
  17. I want this!! Where do I get it?
  18. didnt make the cut?
  19. I don't call the music I listen to jazz, I call the scene I'm a part of, jazz. I like to think of jazz as a group of people who are associated with one another who play music. If Chick Corea wasn't a part of the "jazz scene" would they be calling his Return to Forever stuff jazz? No, they'd call it rock. But it's catogorized as jazz, because people associate him as being a jazz musician.
  20. I've heard lots of stories about how Buddy was a nice person. Frank DeVito told me they they used to hang out at Nick Ceroli's house and all play, and he was as nice as can be. I think he just had a terrible temper. I can relate. My dad is this way. One minute, you love him, the next he's screaming at you!
  21. I wish people would stop putting a lable on music. It's bad enough we have to deal with what is "Jazz" and what's not and all that. Avant garde, hardbop, free, straight. Who cares. Everyone should just get out there and play what they feel. I know I do.
  22. How is it? I just got Donald Byrd, Byrd In Hand, in the mail from Yourmusic.com today. Pretty nice grooves!
  23. I'm not sure, but not all the RVG's of Royal Flush are messed up. It's the same cd, just some with the wrong booklet. There was a Japenese version though right?
