  4. I don't think that's so odd. When you're Mulligan, i doubt anyone but a 'notable musician' is going to play with you. Now if you said other saxophonists, that might be odd, but not that odd since they were able to make a whole album of Gerry's instances with other notable saxophone players.
  5. I always wanted to go to one, to see what kind of fans he has.
  6. I kind of like to think of rap and hip hop as two different kinds of "poetry" over a backbeat. Rap I feel is more commercial. 50 cent, and all those MTV rappers probaly know nothing about Miles and Coltrane, but as for the obscure hip hop artists, I think they sort of were influenced by some jazz music.
  7. LOL, my dad used to play Herb Alpert's version of that song all the time as a kid. About 5 or 6 years ago, the movie was on tv, as my family was gathered around it. I quickly shouted out to my dad, "Hey that's herbie's song!" not relizing the two people having sex right in front of me! I heard Gato's soundtrack album, and it sounds great! Im definately going to hear more of his albums.

    Gato Barbieri

    Well, I'm just about off to go take a biology regents, but I thought I'd cruise the Big O for a while. My newest musical discovery, Gato Barbieri. My dad had his Ruby Ruby record for years, (he bought it for the appearence of Herb Alpert) and before I knew who he was, I stould clear away from the record. About five or so years ago, I found out who he was. But just recently, like yesterday, I started listening to samples and been playing my dad's record. Are there any fans here?

  10. Does the clarinet have the same fingering as a saxophone? B/C most saxists usually can double up on clarinet too, for the most part, so I'm wondering just how similiar, (besides the tone) that they are. And plus, I just bought a Vito clarinet, so I'm wondering, if I become Buddy Defranco or something, I can play a little Najee!!

  15. Man, I had no idea what great albums he made! Includes, So What, Footprints, Naima, to name a few.
  16. Simply, my favorite bass player of all time! I like the story of when him, Miles, and Philly Joe were at some restaurant and Paul put on too much sauce on his spaghetti, Philly Joe and Miles were talking, next thing you know Paul had his head in his plate, past out. ('m getting these from the Miles book BTW) Also, when Miles was playing some variety show, Paul asked some old women, "What are you doing tonight?" Besides, incredible bass player. He's probaly on more than 85 % of my recordings.

  19. Yep, you know Bobby! He lives a couple blocks away from me. Yeah Leto and Palmer are gonna be recording a new album soon. He'll be shocked to find out you know him! He was like "who are these guys! But they can play!"
  20. Hey Jim, got the first cd yesterday! Took it to my drum teacher, because we usually jam along to a cd. He loved it! He's going to show your music to his friend Jeff Palmer, (b-3) who he actually recorded with on an album called Burnin the Blues. He said, "Man, Jeff would dig this!" He was tripping ova Meet Me @ 11. We finally figured that the song goes 1*2*3*4*5, 1*2*3*4*5*6.

  22. Did Chico ever record with vibes? That would of been a nice addition to his quintet. I'm finding it hard to find vibraphonists, that didnt play staight ahead jazz.
