I haven't had respect for Bob James. Mainly because he's in Fourplay. But I just picked up a Bob James album from circa 1975, called Two. I picked it up because it looked like a 1970's jazz/funk album, and because Steve Gadd appeared on it. I really like it. He is pretty good, in fact one of the songs on it is actually extremely challenging. It's one of those Creed Taylor CTI albums. Man I love those albums. 5 stars, except for a poor track with vocals...
  5. Lyle Mays and Steve Rodby have been with Pat Metheny since the early 80's. In Lyle's case, the late 70's.
  6. I just do not dig this shit. I don't think you approach something with the attitude, to not make a jazz record as Herbie did. It's all music and if it's good, it's good. But this album is just shit.
  7. I guess some of you know how I love jazz-funk or just modern jazz with a backbeat. I am still lacking cd's to buy though. My favorite jazz-funk albums that I bought so far are: John Scofield- A Go Go Charlie Hunter- Friends Seen and Unseen George Benson- Bad Benson Pat Metheny- The Way Up Maynard Ferguson- Conquistador George Colligan's Mad Science, and other variuos artists, like Lonnie Smith, Medeski Martin Wood, The Yellowjackets, Terence Blanchard, Joshua Redman Elastic Band, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Chick Corea, etc. I want to know a lot more artists of this genre, ones that are modern and that have come on the scene in the past 15 years. And I'm looking for new releases to dig, of this genre. Thanks in advance.

There's lots like him. There's not many who equal him though. Without him there would be no Stan Getz.
