  1. This is a unique disk. I think Metheny started a trend with his Way Up release. If so, I'm fine with it. I have been listening to Way Up a lot lately, mainly Part One... Almost half an hour, the time seems to fly by. Anyway, about Blanchard's new release: the playing was spectacular, but the vocals sort of didn't sit well with me. Maybe it'll take time.
  2. Well you didn't really answer my question, but I was just asking if you like them.
  3. Does that mean you don't like them, or you do?
  4. These guys any good? I've heard about them for quite some time, wondering how they sound. So what, are you gonna recommend them to me? Or are they not worth checking out?
  5. We had a long talk, he finally accepted to have no singing. Not for long probaly.. -_- but anyway, the only no-vocals he likes is Steve Vai, so I said we'll just combind him into jazz.... Oh boy, the things I say to make him happy..... Man, I need real musicians...
  6. The following is a list of the top ten things the drummer in my band has said that I never want him to say again, because he's getting on my nerves. 1. "This song is too long." 2. "This song could use some vocals!" 3. "People aren't gonna like us if we don't sing." 4. "This song is too jazzy." 5. "I like that song," three weeks later, "I don't like that song." 6. "I wanna play drums." 7. "I don't wanna play drums." 8. "We should do some Slipknot." 9. "I'm mad good at guitar." 10. "I wanna sing lead!!" I've decided to either kick him out or just play drums myself to shut him up.
  7. Dude, where are you shopping?? Cocounts? Well there's your problem! If your shopping in stores geared toward popular radio music, you'll get shit. Shop in Borders where they play everything, including jazz and classical, but even when they play the shit, it's still quite. Or go to J&R. In the jazz section all they play is, you guessed it.........jazz! I stopped shopping in Sam Goody, Coconuts, Looney Tunes, the mall, years ago.
  8. First at the Kentucky Dirby, Jacamo, owned by co-creator of A&M records, Jerry Moss, wins, now Afleet Alex who I had money on the Kentucky Dirby bet, but not on this race at Belmont, wins. What a rip..
  9. Jaco Pastorious- bass and drums Brian Wilson- guitar, piano, saxophone, recorder, trumpet, sitar, marimba, percussion
  10. Man I want this! Looks pretty fresh. I have heard a few samples. I was listening to his 1988 release, Times Like These, so I was looking for new Burton releases. I first saw this in Downbeat, now I'm really anxious.
  11. Happy B-day Les!
  12. Sammy Davis Jr
  13. Wow, the song that inspired Chet Atkins that inspired The Ventures to record, Walk Dont Run, and turn it into a hit, twice! One at number 2, once at number 4!
  14. Tina Brooks would have been celebrating his birthday today! Happy birthday Tina! A little Minor Move should do it~!
  15. Nina Simone
  16. I noticed that. Hey, gotta be comfortable.
  17. Nat Adderly
  18. No matter what thread, let's give respect to this brilliant guitarist!
  19. Donald "Duck" Dunn
  20. I'd like to start off this wonderful thread with a happy birthday to Grant Green!
  21. Ramsey Lewis
  22. His status as a jazz musician is very low. It's his trumpet playing that amazes me.
  23. Cowboys of the west..
  24. Eddie Costa
  25. Marcello, that's Jazz Kat. Oscar Peterson
