  1. I can really tell Percy Heath by his percision. If you notice, when he plays you never hear the strings vibrating as opposed to like Charlie Mingus or Paul Chambers. Heath was very subtle, and he had a very clear tone.
  2. Wow, I just thought my alarm was going off! I should of turned my vol. down.
  3. Here's another one. Kind of weird. Bought Breezin' by George Benson, fell in love with it, wanted to buy every George Benson album I could find, but then I heard his new album. I wanted to cry.
  4. I can only think of one. The Modern Jazz Quartet, In a Crowd. It was my second MJQ purchase. I bought The Early Recordings, didn't like it... I think I was too little to appreciate it, but then I got the more swinging, In a Crowd album, and loved it. This was around the summer of 2000, I bought Pyarimd, Concorde, Last Concert, Blues on Bach, Fontessa, and some more soon after.
  5. I just wish these musicians would just make something totaly new. Electric, acoustic whatever... Why not both.. Do you HAVE TO be up there swinging 4/4 all the time... I think some artists are trying to do this, sometimes successfuly, sometimes not.
  6. The Who, or was that just Keith Moon's drumset??
  7. This is a unique disk. I think Metheny started a trend with his Way Up release. If so, I'm fine with it. I have been listening to Way Up a lot lately, mainly Part One... Almost half an hour, the time seems to fly by. Anyway, about Blanchard's new release: the playing was spectacular, but the vocals sort of didn't sit well with me. Maybe it'll take time.
  8. Well you didn't really answer my question, but I was just asking if you like them.
  9. Does that mean you don't like them, or you do?
  10. These guys any good? I've heard about them for quite some time, wondering how they sound. So what, are you gonna recommend them to me? Or are they not worth checking out?
  11. We had a long talk, he finally accepted to have no singing. Not for long probaly.. -_- but anyway, the only no-vocals he likes is Steve Vai, so I said we'll just combind him into jazz.... Oh boy, the things I say to make him happy..... Man, I need real musicians...
  12. The following is a list of the top ten things the drummer in my band has said that I never want him to say again, because he's getting on my nerves. 1. "This song is too long." 2. "This song could use some vocals!" 3. "People aren't gonna like us if we don't sing." 4. "This song is too jazzy." 5. "I like that song," three weeks later, "I don't like that song." 6. "I wanna play drums." 7. "I don't wanna play drums." 8. "We should do some Slipknot." 9. "I'm mad good at guitar." 10. "I wanna sing lead!!" I've decided to either kick him out or just play drums myself to shut him up.
  13. Dude, where are you shopping?? Cocounts? Well there's your problem! If your shopping in stores geared toward popular radio music, you'll get shit. Shop in Borders where they play everything, including jazz and classical, but even when they play the shit, it's still quite. Or go to J&R. In the jazz section all they play is, you guessed it.........jazz! I stopped shopping in Sam Goody, Coconuts, Looney Tunes, the mall, years ago.
  14. First at the Kentucky Dirby, Jacamo, owned by co-creator of A&M records, Jerry Moss, wins, now Afleet Alex who I had money on the Kentucky Dirby bet, but not on this race at Belmont, wins. What a rip..
  15. Jaco Pastorious- bass and drums Brian Wilson- guitar, piano, saxophone, recorder, trumpet, sitar, marimba, percussion
  16. Man I want this! Looks pretty fresh. I have heard a few samples. I was listening to his 1988 release, Times Like These, so I was looking for new Burton releases. I first saw this in Downbeat, now I'm really anxious.
  17. Happy B-day Les!
  18. Sammy Davis Jr
  19. Wow, the song that inspired Chet Atkins that inspired The Ventures to record, Walk Dont Run, and turn it into a hit, twice! One at number 2, once at number 4!
  20. Tina Brooks would have been celebrating his birthday today! Happy birthday Tina! A little Minor Move should do it~!
  21. Nina Simone
  22. I noticed that. Hey, gotta be comfortable.
  23. Nat Adderly
  24. No matter what thread, let's give respect to this brilliant guitarist!
