  1. I think there's two sides to Benson. One=the popular side, of which mostly R&B fans know him, and pop fans know him for On Broadway, but probaly have no clue about his dates with Lou Donaldson and albums like George Benson cook book. Then the jazz fans know him on that side. I can't say I dis-respect him for going pop on some occassions. but I certainly do not like it. His fairly recent album, I forget the name, was pretty bad, ( to me at least.) The only fair track was a smooth version of MJQ's Softly As In A Morning Sunrise. When I first "got into" Benson this summer after hearing Breezin on the radio and going out to buy the whole cd, I thought he was great. When I heard his new album at the time, I nearly fell off my chair. And not because it was good!
  2. Eh, I heard it all. My parents ain't no mass murderers.
  3. "My kid beat up the kid who made the honor roll." "Bumper stickers suck ass!"
  4. Walter Wanderley, Rain Forest. Heck, they all sound the same.
  5. I meant the style of his albums, not his horn playing.
  6. I hate that! It's all music!! Whatever you dig, you dig! Simple as that!
  7. I can actually live with the pop influences on Breezin'. It was a nice melodic album. It's his R&B stuff that I can't stand.
  8. The thing I like about Lou is the fact that he changed his style in the 70's. He was a great player. I dont know. I don't know if it's that not a lot of people respect him. Listen, there are so many great artists. It would be a near impossible task to give every single jazz musician worthy of great respect, the respect that he/she deserves. I almost bought Aligator Boogolo today. I will next time though. Donaldson will always be on top in my book. There, that's some respect for ya!
  9. I actually held the Charlie Mingus boxed set in my hands. I couldn't afford it, but it was like holding a piece of heaven!
  10. Spammers suck.... My dad got one where the idiot found out his name and was calling him, "gay." It was really stupid!
  11. "Here's a man who at the age of 19, taught himself the guitar. And today he's considered, (pause) by jazz musicians, the greatest guitar player," Herb Alpert. "Wes Montgomery, my favorite guitar player," Herb Alpert.
  12. We all need something to brighten up our Sundays. Besides music; just think of the fact it ain't Monday!
  13. Franke & The Knockouts?
  14. Man, I can't even imagine past high school.
  15. I hope you guys don't hold that against me. I have a "favorite band/artist" every week. I was defending those guys. I love em', but they're just one group I love. With that, proceed...
  16. Fair enough. What Mr. Russell said. Is that your favorite album? I bought that lp sealed. My first ever sealed lp probaly. "Okay fellas!" Sonny Rollins.
  17. I also picked this up.
  18. I bought this at J&R today. While I was downtown, I decided to take the ferry to Staten Island and back to Manhattan. It was fun watching the Statue Of Liberty go by and grooving to The Jazztet live at Birdhouse. You like this album?
  19. Oh man, I was getting jazzed about a Brownie movie! Oh well!
  20. So you did know he plays flute.. No I didn't know he played flute. I've seen him about 11 times over the years and I never saw him play flute. I was just joshin ya.
  21. So you did know he plays flute..
  22. Walter Wanderley, Rain Forest.
  23. Everytime I re-read this, I think of something else. From the little I've heard of them, The Jazz Crusaders. Nice, but not great. I still gotta check more of em' out.
