  1. As I mentioned on the Gryce thread, Daedalus books has a number of Fantasy cut-outs (many of which are probably OOP). There are a lot of titles that were not in other Fantasy 'dumps' (Oldies, Concord). Below is a list I put together from their website. This list focuses mostly on OJC; I did not include Pablos, Milestones or compilations, and left off more recent stuff (e.g. later Rollins). There were titles in the store that are not on their site, and there are titles on the site that I did not see in the store. Next time I am there, I will write down some of the titles that are not in the list below. Bertrand. OJC titles on the site: Ada Moore: Jazz Workshop, Vol. 3 Andy Bey And The Bey Sisters: ‘Round Midnight Arnett Cobb: Blow, Arnett, Blow Art Farmer: Farmer’s Market Art Pepper: Art Standards/Landscape/One September Afternoon/Roadgame/Today Barney Kessel: Swingin’ Party At Contemporary Barry Harris: Listen To Bill Evans: Montreux III/Interplay Sessions/New Jazz Conception/Quintessence/ Sunday At The Village Vanguard/You’re Gonna Hear From Me Billy Butler: Night Life Billy Taylor: Trio/Warming Up Blue Mitchell: Blue Soul Bobby Timmons: Soul Time Boogaloo Joe Jones: Right On Brother Booker Ervin: The Freedom Book/Groovin’ High Brother Jack McDuff: Bringin’ It Home/Prelude/Screamin’ Budd Johnson: Let’s Swing Buddy Tate: Buddy And Claude/Groovin’ With Tate Bud Powell: Bebop/Parisian Thoroughfares George Cables: By George Cannonball Adderley: African Waltz/What Is This Thing/In New York Charles Earland: Black Drops Charles Mingus: At The Bohemia/Town Hall Concert Charlie Byrd: Latin Byrd/Mr. Guitar/Byrd In The Wind Chartbusters: Mating Call Dave Brubeck: Jazz At The College Of The Pacific Dexter Gordon: The Jumpin’ Blues Dick Wellstood: Uptown And Lowdown Don Elliott: Double Trumpet Doings Don Patterson/Booker Ervin: Legends Of Acid Jazz Duane Tatro: Jazz For Moderns Duke Pearson: Dedication! 2. Yes, a lot of people have turned 'couldn't care less' into 'could care less'. Drives me nuts whenever I hear it. Whether Blakey made the mistake or not, I don't know. I know he didn't kill Bird. Bertrand.
  3. Perhaps, but it's not the promoter's responsibility to help him resolve that. Bertrand.

    Nina Simone

What Mingus said about Nina Simone. Bertrand.
  5. 1) RVG also mentions the splice in the Blue Note South Bank Show, but seems to imply that it was because Cranshaw had trouble handling the break, not that he didn't remember it. IIRC, he is trying to make the point that there was a lot of splicing in BN sessions. 2) Trumpeter Michael Ridley (Larry's brother) who used to hang with Lee told me that Jackie McLean was also slated to be on that session, so it would have been a sextet date. Barry Harris did not remember this when a friend of mine asked him. I hope I get to ask Cranshaw one day. Bertrand.
  6. There's not much left at Oldies. The Concord deal can be good as pointed out by Groucho, but apparently no one else noticed something: earlier today, some titles that have been gone for a while were listed as being available on CD again. 3 examples: Fontainebleau, Smooth As The Wind and Lem's Beat. Now I see they are MP3 only. There must have been a fluke on their site and they noticed when people started ordering. Bummer, I really wanted Smooth As The Wind. I still will find 6 titles to make an order, I'm sure. Bertrand.
  7. My deepest condolences to you and your daughters. Sincerely, Bertrand.
  8. Daedalus books has been getting a lot of Fantasy cut-outs. I bought eight this month. You can order from them, but their website does not list everything. I could try to make a list next time I go there and post it here. Usually I stop in on my way to Baltimore for a gig so I may not have time, but maybe I could make a special trip on Thanksgiving w/e. My idea is I would post a list and people could then call them and order. I would have to talk to the store to see how to work it when it is not an item on their website. Maybe I will make a separate thread. Some things I think they have that are I think are hard to find includes Lee Morgan's Take Twelve, Jenkins/Jordan/Timmons and Walter Bishop Trio. No sign of the Gryces, but it could still happen... Bertrand.
  9. Leeway, Wasn't that concert at LC fabulous? All new music! Sorry I didn't catch you after the gig. I was trying to make some contacts for a concert series I'm trying to make happen. Bertrand.
  10. This is known to exist (I am not providing a link to a boot or anything, just a pseudo-discographical listing): Which part is the 21-minute Young/Hendrix? Bertrand. 1 13:46 2 8:19 3 1:59 4 9:23 5 7:19 6 5:26 7 World Traveler 5:56 [left channel dips from 3:30] 8 World Traveler (Reprise) 2:01 9 My Brother's Dead 10:20 10 Livin' At the Burwood 10:10 Total Time: 74:43 Jimi Hendrix - guitar Larry Young - organ Billy Cox - bass Mitch Mitchell - drums
  11. I thought there was at least one hour of Hendrix/Young stuff, albeit in poor sound quality. I was assuming the 20 minute excerpt was part of a better quality version of this material that has not circulated. I could well be wrong. Bertrand.
  12. Great, thanks. So for now I have it as a download. When they finally put out the complete Hendrix/Young 6-CD box (which is inevitable), then I will get that. By then, the tune will be 70-minutes long. This is just an appetizer. Bertrand.
  13. Just bought the track with Larry Young as an Amazon MP3. This is the only track with Larry Young in this set, correct? Are we sure the earlier version was an edit, or just a different take? I plan to compare, but it won't be easy. Bertrand.
  14. The title 'Duke of Sidewinder' will be quickly revoked when the royal family finds out the tune you were named after was written in ten minutes by its composer while he was sitting on the crapper (per Jeff McMillan's bio). Bertrand.
  15. This one makes me say 'uhhhh'. Bertrand.
  16. Aren't we missing an umlaut or two? I've just got the one so I can't spare it. Bertrand.
  17. Scroll down fast while looking at this one! Bertrand.
  18. So this guy is probably 'smooth jazz'. Now if anyone could con Kenny G. out of his collection of horns... Bertrand.
  19. Then I would call my friend Don Sickler in New York: Find out what tunes Blue Notes publishing company registered within 14 days after April 14, 1966. Hed come back and say, A Lamont Johnson tune, a Mickey Bass tune, two Woody Shaw tunes, and three Jackie McLean tunes. Now I knew what the tunes were and who some of the musicians were. Then Id send cassettes out to Jackie and to each of the musicians, and little by little wed be able to identify the tunes and the sidemen, but it was a really painstaking process. Back in the 70s it was almost impossible to access the lead sheets for these copyright deposits. Things loosened up later, though, and roughly between 1993 and 2008, I was able to access a good number of lead sheets for the very tunes that were on all these sesssions that Michael was trying to piece together. Bertrand.
  20. Is the CD era officially over Bertrand.
  21. I finally got a DVD player which will allegedly have no issues with regions etc. So I want to buy the Jackie McLean Chat Qui Peche video. How do I proceed? Has anyone bough this one? Thanks, Bertrand,
  22. I should sue Rudd for naming a record after me without my consent. Bertrand.
  23. This is about to be issued on Fresh Sound or Lonehill or one of those. Bertrand.
  24. Um, what exactly where you looking for when you came upon this That tune kinda sounds like Tony's 80s quintet, but I don't think it's them. A few bits remind me of 'Only With You'. Bertrand.
  25. Thanks. That makes more sense. Brad was the announcer. Chris and Brad are actually performing octet arrangements of Freddie's music this w/e at Smalls'. Sacha Perry is on piano. Bertrand.
