  1. Noal is suggesting that perhaps the Amazon downloads run too slow. Any thoughts on this? Musicians out there might notice some pitch problems. I always thought the Fresh Sound Jazz In The Garden (the one with the two Bookers) had a similar problem, but apparently Teddy Charles talks that way. Bertrand.
  2. I believe you can still get it from Daedalus. Bertrand.
  3. Thanks for the tip about the Amazon MP3. I may just buy the two missing tracks as downloads. Here's something odd though. My iTunes files for 'Things Ain't ...' and 'Blue 'n' Boogie' show the timings 10:48 and 8:10 (respectively). The timings on Amazon are 11:43 and 8:49. Were the tracks on the Blue Note CD truncated? Noal Cohen's Frank Strozier discography also has the shorter timings and mentions nothing about edits. I'll contact Noal about this. Bertrand.
  4. Beautiful music indeed. Cannonball cooks on this one. Bertrand.
  5. I usually don't buy Lonehill stuff, but I got the Freddie Redd in Sweden figuring this one be its one and only CD incarnation ever. The piano sounds bad on this. Was the original LP like that? Bertrand. P.S. Freddie returns to Sweden in March. Something he does every 20-30 years!
  6. Looking at the Lee Morgan discography, it seems I have almost everything. I even just bought an MP3 of 'Midnight Cowboy' just for the hell of it. The session below is one I don't have. Is it available on CD or as a legal download somewhere? How about Great Wide World Of Quincy Jones? Does Lee solo on this at all? Thanks, Bertrand. 7. It always boggles my mind that even royal fuck-ups like Chet Baker can find someone to marry them. Bertrand.
  8. Is 'Harmonica' German for accordion? Bertrand.
  9. Got all three from CD Universe for $8 each plus shipping. Too bad about the absent bonus track - it would have killed 'em to include it? It seems the only leader dates by Woody that I do not have on CD are Love Dance and the two with Tone Jansa. Bertrand.
  10. When I think 'erotic' and 'exotic', Bill Evans is the very first person who springs to mind. Remember, when he joined Miles, he had to fuck the whole band. Bertrand.
  11. A bit more expensive? Milk at 16 times the price? Wassup with that? Bertrand.
  12. $48 for milk??? Bertrand.
  13. The newer version may be a CD-R. Bertrand.
  14. Is this worth getting for the Joe Chambers nut that I am? Bertrand.
  15. I was thinking of going to catch Jamal tonight in D.C. Was he ever located? Bertrand.
  16. This reminds me of Woody Allen's take on Evelyn Woods. I paraphrase: 'Took a speed reading course once. I read 'War And Peace' in an hour - it's about Russia'. Bertrand.
  17. I certainly will not by the box, but hope the tracks are made available on iTunes or Amazon downloads. Bertrand.
  18. The thing about sitting in with Blakey at the Vanguard is apparently common knowledge in the NYC music circles - I heard it from a former Messenger (but not one who was in the band at the time). I'm surprised that the story would not have been on RK's radar screen, if only for him to possibly refute after studious research. Looking at Mike Fitzgerald's Blakey chronology, this was the week of December 27, 1977-January 1, 1978 - my source also confirmed that Curtis Fuller was there. Odd that this seems to have been Blakey's last gig at the Vanguard - the Gordons never hired him in the 80s??? I will assume it it true unless someone refutes it later. If I were to research this, I would start by talking to Valery Ponomarev, Bobby Watson, David Schnitter and Curtis Fuller. I'm sure they would remember. Bertrand.
  19. Sco and Lo took two movers from you, da bastards Bertrand.
  20. I'm sorry but I won't be available that day. Bertrand.
  21. 1976 was probably his last gig officially, but apparently he sat in with Blakey at the Vanguard a year or two later. Bertrand.
  22. This one is awesome (thanks to Stefan for finding a copy of this CD for me years ago), and another equally awesome set from the night before or after is also 'out there'. The Hutcherson/Land group with Joe Chambers is amazing. Bertrand.
  23. the songs were recorded and conducted by trumpeter and Coltrane friend Cal Massey. This actually piques my interest quite a bit. Bertrand.
  24. Your buddy Larry Ridley is on bass. Bertrand.
