  1. I have the 45 of "Susie Q" and it is a two-minute definition of what rock & roll is all about: ballsy, menacing, loud, destructive, etc. I love the CCR version, but it doesn't even come close to the original.
  2. Does anyone know if the air situation has improved over there? When I was there in November, the air was unbelievably smoggy and smoky. Certainly not a good situation for runners, and from what I've heard, some athletes were backing out of the Olympics for that very reason. Seems like that would be TWO good reasons to boycott the whole thing.
  3. Not to be picky, but I had no idea that this was VERY SAXY until I clicked on the link.
  4. Really? Which Dallas store has the new RVGs? The one here in Arlington doesn't have any of them.
  5. same here. Me three. In fact, here's what Dan wrote when I asked the same thing in my sign-up thread: Worked just fine for me!
  6. Yeah, and the extended "I Hoid it Through the Grapevine" always gets cranked up in my car. In fact, I hate it when the radio doesn't play the whole thing! (There used to be a time when they did!)
  7. E-mail sent. I hope it helps.
  8. Y'know, as much as I lament the disappearing CDs at Borders, I have to admit that without the coupons, I wouldn't buy from them in the first place. I have a feeling I'm not alone in this, but then again this is Arlington, cultural wasteland of the US. I think Borders had a jazz section just to see if it really was true. It was.
  9. Drat. Beat me to it. PM sent anyway.
  10. Thanks, and sorry about that. The e-mail I got didn't seem to include a link to a coupon, so I thought it was just a store-wide deal.
  11. Looks like they're having another 2-day 40% off a single CD sale. Y'know, I waited for years for a Borders to open up close to me (closer than Ft. Worth, anyway). Then when I finally got a Borders, it was at the end of the CD era. I was in the Arlington store last weekend, and it looked like they were in the process of seriously scaling back their CD selection. I just checked the online inventory: they have none of the new RVGs. I'm not surprised. As a result, these sales mean nothing to me anymore.
  12. I've heard both and agree with what you say, yet his playing on this show doesn't reflect either of those albums. His playing here resembles his playing for Fantasy, based on what little I've heard from that time period. Besides, wasn't he simultaneously with Columbia and Fantasy? Sorta like when he was simultaneously with Riverside and Verve?
  13. Was this interview done before or after you left Bread? Great music, great dialogue. I really enjoyed it. Makes me want to further investigate Evans' Fantasy years.
  14. True dat. This was my opinion of this album before I heard Goin' West. I don't know how/why that album made me change my mind about Spirit. I guess you could say that, for me, this is one of those rare RVGs where the sound of the remaster makes all the difference in the world.
  15. Same story here, except that my dad's record was WILLY & THE POOR BOYS. That record confused me because I didn't know if that was the name of the band or the name of the record! I got the box which is essentially the K2's crammed into a box. I love that music as much today as I did when I was a kid. Although I have to say, as much as I love the CDs, I still love dad's old crackly scratchy record (what can I say? I was three when I first heard this record! We looked at some old slides the other night and there are pictures of me when I was a baby and there are records all over the floor. I about had a heart attack! )
  16. I was gonna say, that was one helluva party you were throwing last night since it made CNN!
  17. Al - Save yourself the postage and just tear it up, that's fine with me. Will do. Consider it VOID.
  18. Ah well, can't complain too loudly. Things that are too good to be true usually are. No skin off my back. Aggie, I'm mailing your check back to you.
  19. Probably same place as I was. Scary, ain't it? I don't recall seeing you in Limbo. Rush Limbo?
  20. Probably same place as I was. Scary, ain't it?
  21. Would his followers be called D.... no, I just can't do it. Too easy! I'm still waiting for Dave Barry to start his own cult.
  22. 69 YEARS OLD????? She sure didn't look like she was in her 30's on the show. I s'pose we should be thankful she wasn't smoking Bob Denver's ashes.
  23. What timing. We were over at my folks house Saturday night looking at slides from the years 1965 thru 1973. This time period encapsulates my parents wedding ('65), my birth ('70), and my sister's birth ('72). The first house I remember being in was in those pictures. I've lived in Arlington my whole life, and every now and then I have a chance to drive by the old house on my way to work. It's kinda sad how things have changed, and not for the better. Granted it wasn't ever a great area of town to begin with, but at least back then I could feel safe walking around at night. Can't do that now. I miss the old Park Plaza. It's still there, but all the stores/storefronts from that time period is gone: the Skillerns drugstore where I bought my first record; the bowling alley where I learned to bowl and where I was in my first league. There was another plaza across the street that had a movie theater where my dad took me to see Bugs Bunny Superstar, a shoe store that had a full-scale replica of an old fire engine that my sister and I would play on while we were waiting for our turn to be fitted for shoes. Across the other street from the Park Plaza was the old Safeway where we went grocery shopping and next to it was a clothing store that had pinball machines in the lobby. I miss going to work with my dad in the summer, he was a salesman for Sun Electric and we'd hit the various garages, have lunch together, and have a great time. I miss coming home after school to watch "Battle of the Planets" and mom was always there. I miss the creek that still runs behind the old house. Actually it's a drainage ditch, but we called it our creek. Me & my friends would have races thru the brush on either side of the ditch leading out to the street. The tunnel under the street had one hole that led up to someone's backyard! I'll never forget May 1979 when we had a huge flood where the level of the ditch rose up to backyard level (about ten feet); bear in mind, the ditch was usually empty except for when it rained. My God, I could go on.....
