Ah HAH!!! Trane's version from Coltrane Jazz is what I'm thinking of, complete with piano tinkling towards the end. Glad we got that taken care of. Now I can sleep in peace tonight. Y'all can go back to whatever it was you were doing before you put your lives on hold to overload Google's server trying to find that song on my behalf.

You got THAT right! This erases the bad taste from a few years back against the Spurs. Just one more mountain to climb: Mt. Shaq! And make no mistake, the Mavs have their work cut out for them. For my money, Shaq is STILL one of the greatest players out there right now! Plus, he's just so damn likable! How can you NOT root for the guy? -

How 'bout Mosaic Select vs. Mosaic Select? Shaq's goin' DOWN!!! :P -
Track 13 = The Chant!!! ARRRGGHH!!!! That's not the version I know; the one I know is the Byrd/Adams version from the Mosaic box and the album of the same name. But still!!! I could kick myself for not knowing that one! And track 15 isn't St. Thomas. But where else have I heard this one before? Gonna have to do an AMG search on this song. It's like I hear this tinkling piano during the theme or something. Maybe I'm just imagining things. A great BFT, needless to say!!! Thanks again, Rodney! :tup

So I waited until the answers were posted to get my copy. Ah well, that'll teach me. This really is a wonderful disc, and even though the bari is the running theme, it neither dominates nor overwhelms! This one's definitely a keeper, one that will get repeated plays. How I wish I'd participated: I'da nailed track #10 on the first go-round. Everything else I would've been clueless about. So, just some random comments from someone who's glanced at the answers, but doesn't remember squat about 'em (and since this is, technically, the "discussion thread," I'm posting the comments here if anyone wants to keep discussing them): Track 1: nice and swinging, but the ending kinda grated on my nerves. Nice punchy big band sound, just the way I like it! Wouldn't've identified this in a million years. Track 2: another nice swinger! Even though it's a recent recording, that sure sounds like A.T. on the drums! Wouldn't've been able to i.d. anyone else! Track 3: another fine big band! Love the way the bari leads the theme statement, or rather lays the foundation for it! Brassy trumpet sounds like Don Byrd when he still went by that name! Track 4: Would've guessed some kinda Kamuca-Perkins West Coast type thing, like that one track that MartyJazz put on his BFT last fall (wasn't that a Kamuca piece?) Track 5: At one point, the bari solo got to be so fast, I started wondering if Johnny Griffin had ever recorded on the bari sax? Even then, it still has that Riverside sound going for it, so.... Track 6: No clue. Even after seeing the answers, I still have no clue! Track 7: This sounds like something off the Fats Navarro-Howard McGhee set. Love the beat on this one, love the bari solo! Track 8: No clue. Track 9: It's only after reading the comments that I realized what tune this was. DUHHHHH!!!! But I sure love the trombone-bari mix. Love the beat on this one, too! Track 10: Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! Man, I love this album!!! Track 11: No clue. Nice arrangement, though. Very West Coast, as if THAT wasn't obvious! Track 12: Another big band!!! WOO HOO!!! The groovy thing about this collection is that it shows off every aspect of the bari: from colorful section player to growling soloist! Track 13: I must've listened to this three or four times this morning, even humming the tune to myself, and I still can't place it! Gonna have another peek at the answers after this, but THIS one's been driving me batty all day! Track 14: No clue again. Just nice and swinging! Track 15: My first thought was "St. Thomas," but no one else i.d.'d this track as that song, so I guess I'm wrong? Very nice, nonetheless! Track 16: See #14!!! Alright, now to check those answers again! Once again, Rodney, a fantastic disc, and I'm glad I finally got a copy!!!

What the hell has happened to the Suns? From a commanding 15-point lead halfway thru the 3rd quarter to being down by 8 with less than two minutes in the game. Could history be made tonight? I hope!!!!! -

Opened up this morning's paper to see a blurb in the sports section which read, " Hear that sound? It's the sound of the Suns will being crushed," and thinking, "Don't be saying things like that, it'll burn ya." Suns 106 Mavs 86 Around here, that's called an absolute shit-kickin'! You'd think the media around here would know better than to tempt the gods like that! -
New Reptet Release, 'Do This!' available May 30th

Any CD that has all four Marx Bros. names as song titles must have a good sense of humor about it! Listening to clips at CD Baby right now; very nice! Not near as "out" as I thought it might be. Very melodic in some spots! I think I may have to scrounge some pennies together for this! Is the first record anything like this one? That 2-for-20 deal looks real nice! -
I knew a hot black chick in 9th grade; she moved away before I finally got up the courage to ask her out. My loss, believe me.

Uh, yeah I do. To say that Ginobli was the ONLY reason the Spurs lost is to not only take away from the Mavs fantastic performance, but also to take away from the stellar performance of the Spurs. If ever there was a matchup between equal superpowers, that Mavs-Spurs series was it! But, the Mavs had and have the edge, and that's why they are where they are now. Hey slide advantage, folks will never come around to the Mavs, no matter what. It will always be a case of, "Well, they won because of Ginobli's mistake, or Raja's injury, blah blah blah blah." Don't know why there's all this hate for the Mavs (Cuban, notwithstanding), but even if they do go all the way, don't expect the naysayers to shut up anytime soon. That'd be like expecting a Red Sox fan to admit that the Yankees have been a better team all this time. -

Yup, they won despite their impatience early on. When the Mavs play THEIR game, as opposed to the Suns or anyone else's, they're damn-near unstoppable. I'd love to see a Mavs-Pistons final! -
Was thinking about this the other night. I think the oldest ones in my collection are three that I bought in the summer of '89 which still get semi-regular play: Benny Goodman VOLUME 3: ALL THE CATS JOIN IN Benny Goodman SEXTET Duke Ellington PRIVATE COLLECTION VOLUME 1 How about you?

Weird Al's Polka Hits - An Anthology!!! Why hasn't Rhino (or somebody) jumped on this yet? 20 years of musical history set to an infectious (or infecting, depending on your point of view) polka beat! I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
