Big Al replied to Christiern's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Man, I wish we could get some snow around here once in a while..... -
Drat!

Arrested Development cut to 13 Episodes

Agreed! -
Yup! Not necessarily one that I would choose on any given day, but this one set the standard for what followed. No KD, no Lee, no Freddie, nobody!!!
-
Don't know how I missed it, but Mobley's pumping iron in that picture!!!

Been listening to WORKOUT all morning and this sucker SMOKES!!! Philly Joe just crackles and everyone sounds like they're in the room with me! John, I'll be interested in hearing your comments on GIGOLO. I hope I didn't put too much of a damper on your enthusiasm, because I'm telling you right now: this is Mogie at his finest!!! "You Go to My Head" is worth the price of admission alone!

Good point, Ron. I've also listened to HORACE-SCOPE which, when compared to other Silver RVGs from that era, sounds quite good. I don't have a McMaster with which to compare that one, but it has the same clarity and balance of BLOWING THE BLUES AWAY and FINGER POPPIN' (probably my all-time favorite RVG, right there).

That's nice. Who's vouching for you? Wayne Gretzky. -
That's what it sounds like to me! Could you "tweak" The Freap for me? Hmmmmm..... Check your PM box!

I just hope that the lineup on the Charles Lloyd disc isn't one of those sessions that looks good on paper but fails to execute. Because that lineup looks absolutely KILLER!!!

Well, FWIW, I first listened to it in the car and then listened to it on the computer here at work. Not exactly your high-end stereos (and I'm still not convinced I correctly hooked up my car speakers). Still, I A/B'd the RVG with the McMaster (and bear in mind, my McMaster copy is actually a CDR I made of the McMaster, with a lot of audio tweaking: raising the treble, raising the overall volume level) and to these ears, the McMaster reaches out and grabs you, while the RVG just kinda sits there. Or maybe, just maybe, I out-RVG'd RVG!!!

I can certainly vouch for jazztropic! Do business with confidence with this man! -
As much as I like Dallas, I don't think they would beat the Pistons (or for that matter the Spurs) in a 7 game series. Guy I dunno. Mavs beating the Pistons, and then absolutely destroying the Heat last night, during their 13-game win streak must mean something!

Has anyone else listened to THE GIGOLO yet? I hope I just got a defective pressing or maybe it’s another reverse polarization thing, but this thing sounds like CRAP. Higgins’ drums are buried way back in the mix (hell, it sounds like it was mastered thru a transistor radio two rooms over), Mogie’s entrance on “Yes I Can, No You Can’t,” explosive on the McMaster, sounds like a mere “excuse me” on the RVG! Man, I hope the rest of the batch isn’t this bad. If so, between this and the Mobley misprint, this could go down as THE most disappointing batch of RVGs, based on the level of anticipation and the letdown that followed.

Should not have opened this thread. Should NOT have opened this thread!

The sad thing was, it was a step up for her as that was better than anything else she'd previously done (no real challenge there), and a giant step DOWN for him (can't beieve this is the same man who penned "Dolphin Dance")....

I can honestly say that the last time I ate at McDonalds was December 2004. The burger sat in my tummy like an anvil and I was burping up the aftertaste all day. Never had the desire to go back since. Now if you'd asked about Whataburger.....

Shocked I am! Just shocked, I tell you!

Think what you like, but Cobain was the real deal... Real deal? I'll go along with that any day of the week. That's what puts him on a higher level than everything that came after him (and probably a big part of what killed him, too). But genius? Ehh, I still don't think so, although I know I'll get a spirited argument out of my daughter over that one! That and the fact that Nirvana was just a great BAND! That was the definition of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts (and how I wish Dave Grohl would go back to the drums). And speaking of great bands (to try and bring this thread back around), Prince oughta just put the Revolution back together again. Now THAT was a funktastic band!
-
Kurt Cobain a genius? I disagree. He opened the floodgates for teenage angst by filtering it through pre-Tommy Who and struck a nerve with kids tired of the dance-pop filler of the early 90's. That's not genius: that's just being in the right place at the right time. Today, he'd be just another nu-metal band angry at their dads because their not as successful as Creed.
-
Yeah it was. It was until Prince took over that Dhani started to really get into the song. Hell, I could watch/listen to Prince play the guitar all day and not get bored. I don't care how much he apes Jimi; it'd be one thing if he wasn't a decent guitarist. But he's freakin' incredible! At least to these ears, anyway.

Speaking of Holmgren, did he not go out and shake Cowher's hand after the game? I didn't see any of the post-game stuff, so I don't know. But I coulda swore I saw Cowher mouth the words "Where's Mike?" when he (Cownher) was standing at midfield. I hope I just missed it; hate to think a coach that's been in the game as long as Holmgren would make such a low-class move.
