Kurt Cobain a genius? I disagree. He opened the floodgates for teenage angst by filtering it through pre-Tommy Who and struck a nerve with kids tired of the dance-pop filler of the early 90's. That's not genius: that's just being in the right place at the right time. Today, he'd be just another nu-metal band angry at their dads because their not as successful as Creed.

Yeah it was. It was until Prince took over that Dhani started to really get into the song. Hell, I could watch/listen to Prince play the guitar all day and not get bored. I don't care how much he apes Jimi; it'd be one thing if he wasn't a decent guitarist. But he's freakin' incredible! At least to these ears, anyway.
  3. Speaking of Holmgren, did he not go out and shake Cowher's hand after the game? I didn't see any of the post-game stuff, so I don't know. But I coulda swore I saw Cowher mouth the words "Where's Mike?" when he (Cownher) was standing at midfield. I hope I just missed it; hate to think a coach that's been in the game as long as Holmgren would make such a low-class move.
  4. Picked up the Roberts and the Ellis this week and finally have listened to these two. The Ellis flat-out SMOKES! And I have to say that I think OP does his finest work here, both as an accompanist and a soloist. Nothing but swing and judicious use of space! The Roberts is a nice swingin' affair as well, but a bit more laid-back. Thanks in no small part to the arranging of Matry Paich and Bill Holman. Gives the tunes a nice west-coast feel. Well worth the money!

My thoughts exactly. Sounded like vintage 80's Prince. A good thing, IMHO.
  6. Another 50% sale is going on, which means there's a 60% sale going on as well. Anyone have the 60% code?
  7. Kinda hard to do when every grocery store aisle is packed with rags like Us, People, In Star, and other crap like that! KnowhatImean? Having said that, I'll also admit that she is hot. "Taking Lives" anyone?
  8. Aside from all the alternate takes, is there anything on the 10-CD set that isn't on the 3-CD set? Don't think the Philharmonic stuff is on the box. There's certainly every reason in the world to get the box, but you can also buy the bulk of the music (perhaps not all the alternates) in other configurations these days. I think I have 95% of what's on the box covered by smaller box sets or individual discs. That's kinda what I was thinking. When was this box released? So the remastering may not be as good as the single-discs. Plus the single discs don't have Schapp's notes.
  9. Tired of her? Eh, no more than any other Hollywood star. Tired of having to see the whole Angelina/Brad/Jen triangle on every freakin’ magazine cover at the grocery store? Absolutely. The only thing that scares me more than the media’s fascination with these three is the public’s fascination with these three. Somebody’s buying these rags; I just hope I never meet any of them.
  10. Aside from all the alternate takes, is there anything on the 10-CD set that isn't on the 3-CD set?
  11. Is that a good price for the box? Everything appears to be in good shape. But as a listening experience, is it worth it? Thanks as always.
  12. What? No Herb Ellis NOTHING BUT THE BLUES?
  13. I guess we'll be listening to a lot of Jack Wilson tonight! 'salright with me!!!
  14. Somebody once told me that was a good CD. He was right!! If Big Al is picking the music, better make sure you dust off your Styx CDs! Ooooooh..... why I oughta........ dirty rassenfrackenbracken
  15. The website sez it's on LP. Drat!
  16. Those DJs were promptly fired, hung, drawn, quartered, stabbed, shot, and deducted two days pay. That’ll learn ‘em!
  17. Jack Wilson's EASTERLY WINDS, I hope!
  18. I know, but isn't a separate, "private" room limited to yourself and only one other person? I s'pose, but this ain't one of them. This nightly thing is wide open, come & go as you please. Join us one night, won't you? But be ready to deal with a maturity level somewhere around a junior high level. And that's when we're sober. It only goes downhill from there! :rsmile:
  19. Y’know, that chat was a lot of fun. I mean, it was like being 13, and me & my buddies finding my dad’s old jazz records, putting ‘em on, and speaking the way most normal 13-yr-olds do (“Man, that BJP is one bad MF!” “Damn straight!” “GMFG!!!”) It’s rarely deep, but it’s tons o’ fun! I’ll be going back soon. I just hope Ron S will stick around when I arrive!
  20. Attention greeeaze-a-holics: Big John MF Patton's GOT A GOOD THING GOING is spinning right now. Come join the fun, won't you?
  21. I'm in the same boat as spinlps, as I also picked up Ellis in Wonderland. Yeah, I've looked all over and it is nowhere to be found. The stupid thing is, I used to own this. Don't ask me why I sold/traded it. Must've thought I needed the money or something...... Anyway, any help y'all can give will be appreciated.
  22. Hope someone can help me out! No CDRs please.
  23. Of all places, I never thought to look there!
  24. Better not open that can... Because then you might have to open one of these:
  25. Just curious. Might be opening a big can o' worms, but curious nonetheless.
