Four: one to hold the bong, three to say how cool Floyd is! Oh wait, wrong joke!

Thanks bro! DEFINITELY pass along the last sentence of my last post, the one about the "daily visitor!"

Well, this is why I love CD-burning software. I went & bought ANIMALS & WYWH, so’s to keep everything legit, and then copied the following to my hard drive: Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Parts I-V Wish You Were Here Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Parts VI-IX Pigs on the Wing (Part One) Dogs Sheep Pigs on the Wing (Part Two) I then broke up the longer songs into sections (or smaller songs) that start at a point I would normally fast-forward to in the song (i.e. it allows me to skip over parts I would normally skip anyway, like the five-minute interlude in “Dogs” where the word “stone” is repeated over and over). So now, these songs are much more enjoyable!

PLEASE hurry and archive these shows, dammit!!! I’m too lazy and forgetful to remember to tune in when I’m supposed to!!! Seriously, I’m sorry I haven’t been keeping up with this thread and these shows; I love the big bands, so I have no excuse for missing any of these! Good luck with the archives. I can tell you right now that, once they’re up, they’re gonna have a regular daily visitor!

Rogers apologized for his actions. I heard bits of it, and from what I could tell, he sounded contrite. One of the local commentators made the comment that what Rogers said did not sound like it was prepared for him (i.e. prepared by a lawyer). In fact, Rogers said he was apologizing against the advice of his attorney. He admitted he was wrong, that what he did was inexcusable. Make of that what you will. The fact that he did this against the advice of his lawyer tells me it was from the heart. If he decides not to go to the All-Star Game, my respect for him will go up as well.

Appears there have been 7 explosions in London
Big Al replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
My thoughts and prayers are with the folks in London today as well. Fucking cowards, whoever did this. -
Y’all have not lived until you’ve experienced the Randissimo Big Bear Hug!!! Literally sweeps you off yer feet! Happy birthday, big guy!

Well, I can't say I'm suprised. I guess the only thing that's surprising is that Park didn't give up as many runs as I thought he would. I'll bet Oakland overtakes us before the Break. So much for that vaunted Rangers offense.... And Dan, FWIW, let Paul have his fun. What's the harm in that? Remember all the years past when you were talking up the Sox as if they were gonna win it "this year." To your everlasting credit, you stuck with your team through thick and thin, always believing in them, even when it looked like they were done for the year; I've been a lifelong Ranger fan, but I've never had the kind of faith in my team as you have in yours. And last year, your persistence paid off. As a fellow baseball nut, despite the fact you praise a team I despise (), you have my undying respect. So, with all due respect, ease up on the guy; let Paul have his fun! Who knows? Maybe this really is THE year! Then again, what year was it that the Mariners won 114 games? No one remembers because...... didn't they get knocked out in the first round?

Oh man why did you have to bring that up!!!! ← Cheap laffs? Always works for me!

Could someone explain to me what is meant by a "flat transfer"? Does that mean all they did was do a straight remaster of the original tapes, with no tinkering with the sound?
-
My decision to buy this was gonna be based on the opinion of a top greeeeazer around here. Thankfully, a few of the Borders around here have copies! :rsmile:

About the only good thing you can say about Gary Puckett is that he didn't write "Honey." Rumor has it that he wishes he had......

Holy sh**, I can't believe I forgot to weigh in on the "remastered" disc, as produced by Allen. My humblest apologies! Obviously, I don't have it at work, and I don't want to put off waiting until I get home, cuz then another three months'll pass by before I remember that I forgot to comment on 'em. The thing that stands out the most is how warm the recording sounded, and the bass sounded so much more prominent (quite a risk, when you consider that Benny’s brother supposedly wasn’t that good to begin with. I don’t know, though; I thought he swung alright). If there was any surface noise, I barely noticed it. Great job, Allen. I only wish I could hear you rework the whole CD!

Yeah, but has Cordero been that bad all year long, after a career of tremendous consistency? ← Well, he's always been consistent in one area: you can't trust Cordero with a lead of less than five runs. Numbers don't always tell the story: of all the saves that he has, I wonder just how many were NOT "save situations" until after he gave up a few runs? How many of his "wins" were the result of the Rangers having to rescue his sorry ass after he gave up the tying- or go-ahead-runs? Plenty, I can tell you! Bringing Cordero into a game is an almost certain given that the other team will score runs. That's why I knew, even with a two-run lead in last week's game against the Angels, that we were headed for extra innings. Ah well, one man's Foulke is another man's Cordero I s'pose. In any event, Go Sox. (White, that is! )

Yeah, I mean, I like Wish, but I have to be in the mood for it. I never held it in the same high regard as Animals. Back then, anyway; the reverse is true, now.
-
How about the hybrid SACD? Any thoughts on that one?
-
Dan? Dan? I feel your pain! Your Foulke is our Cordero! It's a fluke, I tellya; if the shoe was on the other foot, Cordero would've done the same thing!

Anyone know why there’s such a drastic shift in fidelity on “Echoes?” Did they overdub a studio version w/vocals on that part of the song, and then let the live section play itself out?
-
Thank God for libraries, they keep me from spending money I would’ve otherwise regretted spending. Case in point: the current remasters of Wish You Were Here and Animals. I always knew Wish was ponderous; I guess time (and the remastered sound) hasn’t really changed that opinion. But Animals (and especially “Dogs”) was a favorite all through my senior year of high school. So I listened to “Dogs” this weekend, and am now trying to figure out why I liked that song (and album) so much. “Dogs” would’ve made a great five-minute song, fade out during the guitar solo. I guess that’s why they’re called memories and why they should stay in the past. However, my CD of the soundtrack from the Pompeii DVD, now THAT’S some fine music!!! Probably the definitive version of each song, for me anyway!

Y'know, the stupid this is I saw that one used for $15 and I didn't snag it. You'd think I'd learn after all these years..... [boy do we need a DUNCE CAP smilie around here!]

The above is a true statement and I'm glad to help. I would just add that if anyone wants a copy to feel free to PM me directly, and I'll get ya taken care of!
