  1. Concord is onto a good thing by packaging the Miles Davis Quintet legendary session onto a remastered three-disc set. They should take this concept and run with it with other sessions or volumes like that. Here's some choices I would nominate: Shelly Manne and His Men at the Blackhawk, Vols. 1-5 Hampton Hawes' All Night Sessions Red Garland's Quintet Sessions with Byrd & Trane The Lennie Niehaus Contemporary Recordings Perhaps they could package them much like the Mosaic Selects or something.
  2. Appreciate Fantasy Records? Three words: Creedence Clearwater Revival To borrow a cliche, that's just the tip of the iceberg; but it's where my appreciation begins!
  3. Egad, that's volume 2 of a five-volume set? Where to start? Now THAT'S the kind of thing that Concord should box up into a package like what they're doing with the Miles Davis Quintet stuff! ← Where I'd start is exactly the way I started, with the octet sides (Vols. 2 & 3). Labeling them as "volumes" is completely arbitrary; they really are six separate albums and I think the octet sides are the best of the lot. In addition to the link Jim R posted above, this is the other CD I would get first: http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/dr...d5693938sx5.jpg Once you have the octet sides, then you can decide if you also want the quintet, sextet, and, with strings, volumes. ← Thanks!

  5. RIP indeed! And thanks for the great music. “How My Heart Sings,” “Mother of Earl,” and my personal favorite, “Elsa.” The man could write a waltz like nobody’s business.
  6. Thanks for that link. Very informative. Y'know, I've never really had too much of a problem listening to the Schapp version (I know, I know.....). However, this will likely push me over the edge. The Goodman Carnegie Hall Concert was one of the first jazz CDs I ever bought (the '85 version, that is), and as such it holds that much importance for me.
  7. Is this some dutch female I don't know? ← Drat! Double drat! Aaaaand TRIPLE drat!!!! I feel completely groosed out. Anyways, I guess the radio station doesn't archive these interviews. So I'll wait for the archive on this site.
  8. The interview is already taped, so they edited out all my swearing. It should sound something like this: Jamie Lynn: So, "This Is The Place" is your second release. Can you tell us a little more about it? Me: Sure, Jamie. With this side, you know what I'm sayin', we attempted to <bleep> up all those <bleeeeep> who think they know what a <bleep> organ trio is all about. So we laid down some serious <bleep>. It's music that you can <bleep> your woman to or shake your <bleep> or even play for your <bleep>. ← So then, it's nothing like the infamous Terry Groos interview of Gene Simmons, ya?
  9. Any chance that WCMU archives its broadcasts? Would like to hear this, but I know I'm not gonna be anywhere near a computer at 9:00 pm (Texas time).
  10. Looks ridiculously greeeeeeeazy! Guess I'll be getting that one, too! Thanks ss1!
  11. Is there any discography available as to what will comprise the Ike Quebec 45 sessions?
  12. The Rangers' stuffed suits remember all-too-well the busts that were Chan Ho Park and A-Rod. Of course, it's their JOB to be able to find the talent and keep it, and not overspend on duds. Trade some of our bats? Fine with me. Soriano should be the first to go! As I've said all along, I'm sure the young guys on our team wouldn't mind being traded to a team that wants to win NOW, as opposed to a team that is constantly building for a future that seems to be further and further away with each passing season. But hey, we finally won today. Woo hoo!
  13. As years go by, I'm tending to be less and less inspired to buy the same music over and over again. I know there are those who are more interested in sonic upgrades, but there is still more music that hasn't been reissued at all. I'll never become militant about the whole thing, but I have to say that these types of announcements don't often excite me much. ← ← What they said!
  14. Yes!!! The elusive final piece of the puzzle that was the bands that had Lee Morgan, Jackie McLean, and Billy Higgins! Looking forward to this one!
  15. Well, let's see. The Rangers are 12.5 games out and the M's are 17.5 games out. Considering that the Rangers were in the hunt just 6 weeks ago, they are REALLY sliding fast and the M's finally brought up 19 year old pitching phenom Felix Hernandez who struke out 11 and lowered his era to 0.86 on Monday...I think you may be on to something. But lets not kid ourselves. The M's are REALLY bad. As bad as you think the rangers are, the M's are still 5 games below them. The teams may be going in different directions right now, but it's been a rough summer here in Seattle. ← No kidding. In fact, I’ll trade you my stuffed suits for yours. But the Rangers are facing a cold reality: all those things they thought they had while they were winning before the All-Star Break (great offense, solid defense, better-than-usual pitching) have completely unraveled. Take Alfonso Soriano. PLEASE!!! His error last night ignited a five-run rally that led to our 8th straight loss. Our bullpen is crying for mercy right now because our starters never had it to begin with. And our “ace,” who has killed any hopes of a lucrative contract thanks to his woes on AND off the field, has only won two games since he broke his hand. And with as good as our offense is, breaking all sorts of records & all that, the one thing we lack is that which is key to a WINNING offense: good clutch hitting. And even then, what’s the point? The Rangers can score 10+ runs, but the pitching staff still can’t hold any kind of lead given to them. In other words, this is a team that is facing life-draining frustration because they had a chance: hell, it was in their hands right before the break. And now they face the prospect of another disappointing finish, another long off-season; no direction from their leaders; no pitching whatsoever. I think we’re going to see the exit of a lot of good players during the off-season. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if these guys don’t already have calls into their agents to get them off of this sinking ship.
  16. Come on, John: I know your boys can take third EASY! That way, my boys will be in last where they truly belong.
  17. A-frickin'-men!!!!
  18. Glad I wasn't the only one who thought this....
  19. True dat!
  20. Ahhh, the combined wisdom of JSngry and Brownie bring forth the light of a few choice answers. (Drat! Billy Higgins is on track 2. Now I have to get that album!). But neither one of 'em solves the mystery of track 8! Why, oh WHY do our heroes let us down?!?!? Sam Rivers is the tenor on track 7. Now that I listen to it, I can hear it. But I would NEVER have guessed him; not in a million years! (Okay, maybe 999,998 years, but no less!) The cool thing about this BFT is that is seems to have picked what would've been my favorite tracks from the albums from which they came (track 18, f'rinstance; I'm listening to the clips right now, and can already tell this would not be to my liking. But track 18, holy SHIT how that swings!!!) I like what JSngry said about track 15: nuff said, INDEED!!! But the coolest thing about this BFT is that it has the same sense of fun and whimsy that BFT #21 had. (pat, pat, pat, pat!) Seriously, I felt like I was listening to a BFT that I could've easily put together, because this is pretty much the same kind of music I dig: happy, bouncy, SWINGING LIKE MAD! I mean, ever since I posted my guesses, I've been listening to this sucker non-stop. Now that JSngry & Brownie have posted their guesses, it's like listening with new ears (or, at least, better educated ears, anyway!)
  21. THAT looks interesting. Always dug Hackett's work with Genesis. Well.... the same could be said about just about any other record in the world, material or otherwise.
  22. Just reviewing this thread, and completely missed this the first time around. I never bought the album, but "Had a Dream" was one of my favorite singles of that year. It came out right around the same time that Supertramp put out an album without Hodgson, and the single from THAT album, "Cannonball," sounded a lot like "Had a Dream," complete with extended piano coda.
  23. Ah, don't worry: you've got a three-game sweep comin' up in the next few daze.
  24. Aw, I dunno. I haven’t watched a Sox broadcast in years, but I always enjoyed Hawk & Wimpy. They had a great rapport with each other, and I always liked it when someone from the opposing team would strike out, Hawk would say “Grab some bench!” As for the SOX duel this weekend, I’ll admit I was surprised. Too bad yesterday was rained out. Anywho, four game sweep at the hands of the Yanks. Big surprise. This is THE worst pitching staff in the Rangers’ 34 year history, and that’s saying a LOT!
