Absolutely. Unfortunately, hardly ANYone in Fort Worth knows (or even gives a rats ass) who Ornette is. Hell, the closing of the Caravan of Dreams was proof of that. Dammit, this is what pisses me off about living in this cultural wasteland that is DFW: when Ornette dies, I just know his obit will be regulated to a blurb in the Overnight section. If he’s lucky, that is. If this were a fair and sane world, his birthday would be declared Ornette Coleman Day, a prominent street in Fort Worth’s formidable arts district would be named for Ornette, and just maybe a statue prominently displayed in Sundance Square. Right. Like THAT’ll happen. Still haven’t received any response to my e-mail to KNTU. Guess they really are away from their computers. Totally agree with Brandon about having Ornette in the Texas Museum. Maybe they’re waiting for him to be dead like Red.

Boy is THAT the truth. Seems like every other song they play is by the Lab Band. Nothing wrong with that in itself; the station is, of course, a function of the University. I just wish the radio station would drop its jargon about having the Best in Jazz for DFW (“Best” only by default, they’re pretty much the ONLY jazz station in DFW. Which reminds me: hey JSngry, are you able to pick up KTCU? It’s the TCU station, and for a couple of hours each day, they play some fantastic (IMHO, anyway) jazz.). I e-mailed the program director, asking if they really didn’t have any Ornette, or was it just a spur-of-the-moment decision by the DJ who maybe didn’t want to play any Ornette? Heck, I even offered to donate an Atlantic Ornette box. We’ll see what they have to say (if anything)....

Fuck 'em. I'll drive to Denton myself and fix that problem!

Have I mentioned lately how much it sux to be a Rangers fan right now? Five straight to the Angels. 12-3 last night. You’d think the pitchers were telling the batters where they were gonna throw it! Unfreakinbelievable! I was supposed to take my family to the Rangers game tomorrow night. Hell, if I wanna see a minor league team, I’ll go see the FW Cats. It’s a helluva lot cheaper, and the talent is roughly the same. Stick a fork in ‘em, they’re done.

Yup! That's a good idea, though! Still, if anyone ELSE wants it.....

This Thom Crooze debacle...

Too bad it was from Cruise who is so full of himself and as far as I'm concerned has zero credibility and would be nice if he didn't foist Scientology rubbish on everyone else but I guess you could say that about religion in general. ← I agree Chris. Since his public "kidnapping" of Katie Holmes sideshow, what credibility he had left is gone. Now he's brainwashing her with his scientology cult bullshit and he's losing it on Today Show interviews. I'll bet his agent is pulling his hair out. Stick a fork in the old top gun. ← "Kidnapping." Could not have said it better. -
Make me an offer? Trade? Bueller?

One more thing about Drese: I so wanted him to start against the Rangers when the Nationals were in town. I bet he coulda shut them down, and it would've been a HUGE In Your Face to the empty suits & golf shirts running this team!

Yeah, last night was definitely a fluke for Kenny, but still: the Angels are the team the Rangers are gonna need to beat if they wanna talk playoffs at all. So if Kenny goes 19-2, but his two losses are against the Angels, those other 19 wins are gonna be pretty meaningless (baseball-wise, not contract-negotiations-handled-by-Satan-Boras-himself-wise) if the R's aren't in the playoffs. As for Drese and Astacio: Astacio should've been canned a long time ago. Why they waited so long is beyond me. Letting Drese go was just plain stupidity, blind rage at trying to show the boys who's in charge. Drese was no worse than any of the other arms on that staff (anyone mention Chan Horrible?), so for the Rangers to let Drese go and keep that loser Park around shows the stuff-shirts only care more about the bottom line as opposed to having a good team on the field. (Of course, letting Park go would mean that the world's worst GM John Hart would have to swallow his humongous ego and admit he was wrong about signing ol' rubber arm to A-Rod dollars!) Oh how I long for the good ol' days of Eddie Chiles.....

We have starters?
-
The one in Orlando? If so, I've been there and have to agree, but unfortunately they're all (at least the ones in Texas) starting to look like that now.
-
Oy! Three game sweep at the hands of the one team the Rangers need to beat! And a 16-19 road record is unacceptable for a team that has playoff aspirations! Time to start planning ahead for 2006.
-
Hey! That's why I picked the Spurs! Gotta go with the local boys!
-
I guess it's time to give up on the Rangers' hopes of playoffs this year. Already lost two of three to the Angels, and if the Rangers wanna even THINK about post-season play, they're gonna have to figure out a way to beat the Angels. Let's see, we got rid of Drese and Astacio early on cuz they stunk up the field. When, oh WHEN, are we gonna rid ourselves of the curse that is Chan Ho(rribly Outta the) Park?
-
Well I sure as hell stand corrected!!! Way to go Pistons, even though I still want the local boys to win!

SEK, is this something available commerically or should it already be pre-installed on my PC? Rod, that site rocks!!!! I'd never heard of it until you linked me to it! I tried that All Sound, and that would be great if my DVD player didn't skip/pause like it does. However, I did find a program called A1 DVD Audio Ripper. Now THAT is da bomb!!! The trial version only lets me rip 1/2 of what I want to rip, and I suppose I could maneuver around to make it work; but this program is so cool, it may be worth the $30 license fee. Subsequently, I realized there is a lot of audio on my DVDs that I'd like to transfer, so this may be the one to get (for me)! Man, who needs Google when I have you guys?

I am now a confirmed greeeeaze-aholic: the other day I was typing a letter at work and had to spell "greasy" and inadvertently typed it as "greeeeeeeeazy." Thank God for spellcheck!!!

I'm trying to take the audio from my Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii DVD (thanks, AfricaBrass!!!), convert it to a WAV file for copying to a CD for listening to in my car. Got a couple of ideas: 1) Use a DVD encrypting software. Unfortunately, I haven't a clue how to work this. So far, I've managed to copy the entire DVD onto my hard drive, but have no idea how to extract just the audio from these files. 2) I suppose I could just hook up my DVD player to my computer via the microphone jack, and then just play the DVD on the player and record it to my hadr drive with the Pyro software I bought recently. Pyro claims to be able to record music in this manner, so I'll see if that works. But that seems like a real SLooooooooow way to accomplish this. Any ideas you guys have will be greatly appreciated. Y'all came through for me on the mp3 thread, so I figure I'd mine the well of knowledge again!
-
This is why I come here instead of doing a Google search! I'll try those organizing softwares you guys mentioned. Thanks again!

Yup, that’s the one. And yes, I can create folders on the player itself, which is very nice. In this particular case, I was trying to take two Evans albums and arrange the songs in a particular order. I finally figured out how to do this: create the folder on the player, and the just copy the songs to the player one at a time, in the order I want to hear them. BTW, how do I get the filenames and ID3 tags correctly numbered? Maybe if I knew that, then I could copy the files over all at one time. Whatever, though; this sure beats the old days of having to wait 45 minutes to make a tape for my Walkman to eat up!
