  1. I used to think that as well, but hearing the full versions ended up only enhancing my enjoyment of the original album. For me, it's two completely different experiences, neither one taking anythinh away from the other.
  2. WOW!!!! I love stuff like this! I gotta check out this guy's other videos! Coulda done without the Rickie Lee Jones part, but the rest of it was outstanding!!!
  3. Wasn't this already done on the 2-CD Impressions from years back? Can't imagine picking this up myself, as I've got pretty much all the Verve Wes I want, but I could see where others woud enjoy this.
  4. Hearing Curtis Fuller's "I Will Tell Her" on the way home from work the other night made me want to hurry home and hug my wife as tight as I could.
  5. Love the two-fers, still love finding them in the record bins. The Arlington Public Library, back in the days when you could still check out vinyl, had two of those two-fers I remember fondly: 1) Charles Mingus REINCARNATION OF A LOVEBIRD, which I didn't realize until recently that was a session from the early 70's. I've not seen it since, but I also found out it is available on CD, so there you go! 2) The Trane two-fer that paired TRANEING IN and SOULTRANE. This two-fer was pretty much my introduction to Trane, Prestige, and so much more in jazz. Talk about a starting point! I'd just started getting to jazz via my dad's Blakey records, so I was checking out as many jazz LPs that the library would allow. This was the one that got me hooked eternally into jazz. And so many good memories attached to this set.
  6. In the last week, from various sources: Chico Hamilton - MAN OF TWO WORLDS Paul Desmond - SKYLARK Art Blakey - JAZZ MESSENGERS!!!! (Impulse!) Cootie Williams IN HI-FI Horace Silver - THE STYLINGS OF SILVER (bought from ejp) Curtis Fuller - I WILL TELL HER (bought from Borders.com before the liquidation announcement, backordered and finally arrived. Was gettin' kinda worried!) Velvet Underground - WHITE LIGHT/WHITE HEAT Hank Garland - MOVE! THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS Tony Williams Lifetime - EGO George Benson - THE GEORGE BENSON COOKBOOK (bought from CD Warehouse)
  7. Yes yes! This just might be THE song to use to describe the sound of Blue Note in the 50's! Very interesting and most excellent album! I remember hearing "Song for Jobim" for the very first time and just feeling that all was right with the world.
  8. Rangers score 20 runs on Monday, then lose the next two to lose the series. Meanwhile, the Angels toss a no-hitter but still give up a run in the process (albeit unearned) to gain ground on the first-place Rangers. That's the way baseball go. (I'm gonna make that my signature. Seems appropriate, not only in baseball but also just about everywhere else.)
  9. Same here. Everything in great condition! Thanks again for the great service!
  10. Zero runs Sunday night, 20 runs the next night. "That's the way baseball go."
  11. Goodbye to another legend. Thanks for all, and I mean ALL, the great music!
  12. PM coming on: 4 Sonny Rollins East Broadway Rundown 4 Horace Silver Stylings of Silver (BN RVG) sawcut in spine 7 Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers (Impulse) And questions about a couple others
  13. {{{sigh}}} This just gets better and better!!! And I still have yet to pick up the last batch of reissues!
  14. Listening to this right now. What a beauty! There are times when it feels like I'm listening to a Wayne Shorter quartet album. Don't know (or care) if this was conscious on Getz' part, but it sure sounds sweet to me!
  15. No, but I would say if you had to pick between the two you won't go wrong with either.
  16. FWIW, I've met him and he's a good guy. My son whipped him at one of his Guitar Hero fundraisers that he has (or had, I don't know if he does this anymore, this was three years ago when Nathan was in 6th grade), and he had a great sense of humor about the whole thing.
  17. Charlie Parker Complete Verve Master Takes, all three discs on "random."
  18. Drat! Wish I'd copied and pasted this list last night when the whole thing was up!
  19. Everything's arrived in good order. Thanks, once again, for the great service!
  20. It certainly answers a helluva lotta questions I've had, that'sfordamnsure!!!
  21. Well, it's nice to know Thom and I were on the same wavelength!
  22. Track 3 I had no clue, and I still may be wrong, but it wasn't until the drum solo that it occurred to me that it might be from this? Track 4 I should know, and I'm gonna kick myself once I find out!
  23. Tracks 1 & 2: no idea, but I am SERIOUSLY diggin' on these grooves!!! Oops, looks like I spoke too soon on track 2. Once those guys took off for the stratosphear they lost me. I woulda been happy if the horn players had left the studio and let the rhythm section finish by themselves. Said the grouchy old man.....
  24. My thoughts exactly. Plus, the three Concord mini-boxes of Trane have everything that is on the big box, so no need to get the "new" old big box if you have the three mini-boxes. Plus, I really dig the sound on the Concord boxes.
  25. I thought I bought the Hamilton MAN FROM TWO WORLDS. Or did you have two copies? In any event, SOMEONE should grab those Heath OJCs. I would, but I already have 'em. Small group playing at its finest and at prices that can't be beat!
