Mine arrived today. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure "Hot Rod" would be the worst movie ever made regardless of type, degree, category, race, religion, or creed.

CTI reissues: box-set, 1971 concert, single titles
Big Al replied to ghost of miles's topic in Re-issues
I've got both of those on LP and couldn't agree more or more enthusiastically!!! I'm a CTI nut, so the only help I can give is follow the recommendations above and you won't go wrong. If you end up becoming CTI-obsessed like me, THEN I'll give ya some recs! -
Man, I was still doing that at the Ballpark last year!!! I mean, who ever expected the Rangers to get to the World Series, much less the playoffs this year? This was beyond my wildest dreams and was a looooooooooooooong time coming! This is the second time I've heard about Molina getting a WS ring. How does that happen? I'm certainly glad he's getting one, but I just don't get how!

Maybe it's because God is sad that the Rangers lost, or maybe He's sad that baseball season is over,..... ...or maybe He's sad because now the local sports media will go back to doing what they do best: over-analyze every aspect of why the Cows stink again this year!
-
Amen to that, Jim! I'm happy you and your son were able to see that last night.
-
No better example of this came after hard-luck Pat Burrell struck out for like the 12th time this series and his teammates rallied around him, supported him, and even Edgar Renteria giving him a big hug after his HR as if to say, "We got your back, man. You helped get us here, we're all in this together." Now THAT'S class.

In my mind, that has already happened....

That was beautiful!

So just how different are the mono and stereo versions of the electic stuff, is it a different mix or is it more punch, what are we talking here? Just going from memory here, but IIRC, the mono BIABH and H61R aren't really any different than their stereo counterparts except for maybe how the instruments blend. BOB, OTOH, has two distinct differences: 1) "Visions of Johanna:" the mono version doesn't have the ride-cymbal taps during the one line of the one of the last verses that the stereo version has; 2) "Sooner or Later (One of Us Must Know):" one version has a piano break where the other version has an organ break. Too tired and lazy to spin the CD to remember which is which.

Congratulations, hats off, and MAJOR props to the World Champion San Fransisco Giants. Been a long time coming and you guys completely outplayed, outhit, and certainly outpitched my Rangers! I've got no complaints, other than wishing for a different outcome of course. Gad, I thought we might catch a break after Bungarner's gem last night; who knew that Lincecum would top THAT??? Certainly not the Rangers, who looked completely baffled from the very first pitch. Which is not a knock against the Rangers, mind you: Lincecum was simply that GOOD! A highly-deserved storybook ending for one team; for the other team, an exclamated TO BE CONTINUED!!! Enjoy the party, Giants fans! See y'all next year!

Wow, even worse than that movie where Willis sang? (So bad I can't remember the name, starts with a "B" I think)
-
Yes, either way a good ending, AFAIC. ON an unrelated note, did anyone see Laura Bush yawning during the ninth inning last night? That cracked me up! On a related note, the following is a transcript from this weekend's "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" (the NPR news quiz) about this series. Mods, feel free to delete if you think this crosses the political line. This is being offered, FWIW, with no other agenda than to make folks laugh as I did when I first heard it: SAGAL: Your last quote is an unusual rallying cry never heard before in the world of sports. KASELL: Fear the beard. SAGAL: That's a team slogan, it is. (Soundbite of booing) Ms. DICKINSON: Whoa. SAGAL: Oh I'm sorry, it seems like our entire audience had stomach trouble at one. I don't know why. (edit: they were broadcasting from Philadelphia) (Soundbite of laughter) SAGAL: That is a team slogan, referring to the distinct facial hair of one particular player who is participating in this year's what? Mr. MEHLHORN: World Series. SAGAL: Yes, indeed. (Soundbite of bell) Mr. MEHLHORN: Of baseball. SAGAL: Exactly. (Soundbite of laughter) SAGAL: Let me just say to our audience here in Philadelphia that it's a relatively unimportant contest. (Soundbite of laughter) SAGAL: The World Series got underway this week in San Francisco. Most sportswriters have predicted that once again, an American team will take home the trophy. (Soundbite of laughter) SAGAL: This year, there's actually slightly more interest than usual because one of the teams has never been in the World Series. That's the Texas Rangers, a team once owned... (Soundbite of cheering) SAGAL: All right, all right, see your loyalty. A team once owned by George W. Bush, who sold them back in 1998. So America, now we know it takes about 12 years to recover from George Bush. (Soundbite of laughter) (Soundbite of applause) SAGAL: The Series started in San Francisco and then is going to go to Dallas, marking the first time 40 San Franciscans ever voluntarily went to Texas. (Soundbite of laughter) SAGAL: The two communities have made the usual friendly wager. If the Rangers win, Texas gets to secede from the Union. (Soundbite of laughter) SAGAL: If the Giants win, Texas has to secede from the Union. (Soundbite of laughter) (Soundbite of applause)

Okay, that's actually a relief: I thought I was missing some obvious setting like "Click here to keep your posts separate, dummy!"
-
This is a test. I am attempting to make two separate posts. This is the first. This is supposed to be the second. My question is, why are my separate posts being combined into one, and is there any way to keep that from happening? Because this is supposed to be the FOURTH post within this thread, and it only shows one post!

Amen to that!!!

Hey, when I was 13, that movie taught me a lot about.... um.... uh, never mind. Yeah, that movie's terrible!
-
I love "Soft Samba Strings." It feels like a long lost Jobim album. Sumptuous, gorgeous, and every other slobbery cliche I can think of! That was the first McFarland I picked up and have since picked up "Tijuana Jazz," "Point of Departure," and "Big Band Bossa Nova." What I love most about these albums is that none of them sound the same. Hell, they don't even sound like they're by the same guy!!!

HEAD is in my personal list of top-five favorite movies. Whatever one thinks about it, you gotta admit there is an element of brutal honesty throughout the film: about the Monkees, about the sixties, about damn near everything. Rafelson, Nicholson, & the Monkees themselves took no prisoners (even pointing the proverbial gun at themselves a lot of times). Sure, it doesn't make a helluva lot of sense as a whole, but as individual vignettes it almost becomes a peek under the psychedelic carpet to see all the bad shit that was really going on back then. KISS Phantom..... well, yeah, of course it's bad! Even the band knew it was bad! Loved it when I was a kid, still love it now but for far different reasons. It comes across now as a very deliberate "wink wink, nudge nudge" act by a band riding high on the wave of popularity and you either allow yourself to enjoy the ride or you let yourself be insulted. Personally, I think I'll do the fun one! I've never sat all the way through TITANIC, but I will admit to being fascinated by the sinking ship scenes. But any movie that gives us that GD Celine Dion song..... only one other song makes me angry enough to want to punch someone/something, and that's Kenny G's "Songbird." Both songs have whiny grating sounds at their center. Worst movie ever? No contest for me: "Hot Rod." Pretty much anything with Andy Samberg's a piece of shit in my book, and they all seem to replicate the MO of this one: mean-spirited, unfunny, and just plain stupid.

Agree all the way. Sometimes all you can say is simply "Wow!" Certainly not looking good for our guys, but hey, when have we EVER had to choose between trick-or-treating and a Ranger game? I'm still giddy about the notion of a Rangers game in November. November!!! Usually by this time, we've forgotten all about the Rangers and instead are focusing all our energies on why the Cows stink. Well, the Cows still stink but we got a much better thing to be focused on now! And for that alone, I say "Thank you, Rangers!"

Today, I am wearing my Texas Rangers AL Champs t-shirt to work as part of Halloween dress-up day, and telling everyone I am St. Jude, the Patron Saint of Lost Causes. Seriously, now that I'm calmed down, just gotta keep telling myself I wanted this to go seven games and in order to go seven games, the Rangers gotta lose three. But like that??? Look, what Wash did last night is typical Wash. Sometimes it works, sometimes it bites him in the ass. But that's his style and I give him credit for having the cajones for staying consistent against the massive outpouring of screams to do otherwise (I'm in that massive outpouring, BTW). Hell, it got him this far; at this point, I can't really argue with it anymore. Maybe it's time to get the guys in the bullpen to watch "Bull Durham:" Don't think, Meat; just throw. Hell, put garters on 'em if necessary! And may I also say how classy, gracious, and a good sport GoodSpeak has been this Series! I'm guessing it's as much out of being a "Good" guy as it is out of fear that saying even the slightest thing complimentary will jinx his team. I know this feeling all too well, and am living that nightmare right now. Oh well, I've rooted this long and bought the t-shirts not to keep saying it: GO RANGERS!!!

Well, I may have to reconsider my stance on live CTI albums then. -

PM coming re: Giant Box, Sona Libre, and Workin' Out -
Thanks, Ghost. You've got more faith than me right now; I feel like I'm watching the Rangers of old right now.... I mean, not to take away from the Giants efforts. Hell, Cain silenced the Rangers bats completely and convincingly. There's a damn good reason these guys are playing for the Championship title. But geez, of ALL the times for the Rangers to hit the skids..... NOW????
