  1. Big Al

    Bob Dylan corner

Agreed, but I'll still get it anyway. I've never heard the first four
  2. All this talk about the live dates and not one mention of SOMEDAY MY PRINCE WILL COME? AFAIC, that's the real gem of Mobley's tenure with Miles. Yes, Trane steals the show on the tracks on which he appears. No matter: Hank more than holds his own among the big names, and I put this album on a par with Hank's Blue Note albums from the same era.
  3. Well go get it, man!!! It's still there! I'll wait until you DL it before taking the thread down.
  4. And now everything's been identified! Thanks to everyone, especially Swinging Swede who got the jump on everyone. I'll leave this up for the rest of the day for everyone to see the answers and then take it down tonight. Thanks again to everyone!
  5. Sure! Track 4: Miles Davis - My Funny Valentine (from COOKIN') Track 5: Why Was I Born - Kenny Burrell and John Coltrane (from their s/t album) Track 11: Round About Midnight - Thelonious Monk (from THELONIOUS HIMSELF) Yeah, now that I see that most of the track have been ID'd, it would seem that the compiler is a Concord fan! As for "The Peacocks," I'm assuming Jim R has this one because a) the Breakstone disc came out in 2009 and this compilation was made in 2005 and b) when it comes to guitar anything, I generally defer to Jim R, and because c) Jim R's name is also Al, although it's a well-kept secret. Thanks to everyone! I'm starting to think asking for this might not've been such a good idea, financially speaking.
  6. So I'm cleaning my office/gameroom and come across a CDR a friend made for me that has some very nice jazz on it, but no tracklist. I was able to ID three tracks, but what of the rest? So I turn to you all! Here is the link to the download of the remaining songs. In the interest of legality (among other things), I'm gonna take this thread down once all of the songs listed below are identified: Track 1: Monty Alexander - In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning (Echoes Of Jilly's) Track 2: Duke Ellington - Prelude To A Kiss (Ellington Indigoes) Track 3: Gene Harris - Everything Happens To Me (Funky Gene's) Track 6: Howard Alden - The Peacocks (A Good Likeness) Track 7: Stan Getz - Spring Is Here (Blue Skies) Track 8: Bill Evans - Blue In Green (Portrait In Jazz) Track 9: Scott Hamilton - Angel Eyes (Scott Hamilton With Strings) Track 10: Charlie Byrd - Corcovado (The Bossa Nova Years) Thanks, as always!
  7. FWIW, I really dig the way Hank rides the groove on a lot of his solos from the Blackhawk discs. Obviously not what Miles was looking for, but groovy nonetheless!
  8. I think I'll view comments before downloading, free/avant not being my usual cuppa tea.
  9. "From This Moment On" played by John Jenkins and Kenny Burrell on their self-titled Blue Note album. Jenkins playing the melody line has been stumbling around my brain for the last day, completely unidentified, until a few minutes ago when I started searching for it on Rhapsody. And, of course, it's from a CD I no longer own. Meanwhile, hundreds of CDs sit on my shelf collecting dust. {{{sigh}}}
  10. Hmph!!! Never fails! Always a gig when I got something going on like my dad's 70th birthday! Very much looking forward to the next gig!
  11. PM coming about the two Mogie Conns
  12. Drat! Sorry I missed this one, as I have POD and would've probably enjoyed that McFarland/Evans LP. Well, kudos to whoever scooped it up; if you haven't heard POD before, prepare for a real treat!
  13. Late to the party as usual, so there will be plenty o' Mobley spinnin' today!
  14. Whatta fantastic show! Great job as always, David, but this one easily goes in my top-five favorites. (Don't ask me what was displaced, though; that might get ugly! )
  15. indeed!
  16. Mingus on hold!
  17. Bump with price reduction. Thanks for looking!
  18. Clayton Cameron was the drummer for the Ralph Sharon Trio for awhile, when they were backing Tony Bennett in the 90's. Got to see him with Bennett in '96. Helluva show, helluva drummer. Did a fantastic drum solo using nothing but brushes on a snare.
  19. We just recently got this album in our house and it's proven to be something of a catalyst for history for my teenage son. Plus it's just damn funny! Gotta spin it later to throw out some favorite quotes, but as Lady Bird says, "That's alraght!"
  20. Cedar Walton - CEDAR (Prestige) with Kenny Dorham, Junior Cook, Leroy Vinnegar, & Billy Higgins
  21. Bobby Timmons - Soul Time, with Blue Mitchell, Sam Jones, and (once again) ART BLAKEY!
  22. MJQ box is gone. Mingus still available!
  23. First record by Blakey and first jazz record period, thanks to Dear Ol' Dad's LPs: MOSAIC - Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers (Blue Note) Said Messengers were Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton, and Jymie Merritt
  24. I'm sure your alibis are water-tight, baby!
  25. Gary McFarland Sextet POINT OF DEPARTURE (Impulse A-46) I love finding records that I didn't know existed, and the lineup sounds as good as one might expect from the a lineup of this calibre: McFarland: vibes Willie Dennis: trombone Richie Kamuca: tenor sax/oboe Jimmy Raney: guitar Steve Swallow: bass Mel Lewis: drums Let's see: ya got east coast, west coast, avant garde, Ellingtonia... sounds like a jam session train wreck potential right? WRONG!!! They sound like they've been playing forever! Glad I stumbled onto this one!
