And you thought it was simply because I'm a boring, stodgy old conservative!

Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever imagined the Rangers taking the season series from the Red Sox. I mean, do you realize what has happened here? Do you know what this means??? Absolutely nothing. It's still July. Nobody's running away with anything, and everything is still possible. Of course, it wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if the m#&^#%$#&^%$&^@ing Angels would PLEASE start losing! Suck it up, Dan. The season isn't over yet, not by a long shot. If by yet another miracle the Rangers make it to the post-season and/or the Red Sox don't make it to the post-season, then yes, you could probably point to these games as turning points in the respective seasons. But I'm still not holding my breath. Not this early in the season. Not when your team is .585 and two games back, and mine is .559 and three games back. And you better get your ass back in here because when the Red Sox and Rangers do start to make my life miserable (i.e. Red Sox start winning, Rangers start plummeting), if you're not in here flying into your daily rages, then you are not allowed back on the Red Sox bandwagon. There's only room for one of us here in the loser's gutter, and I've got squatter's rights!

I'm a big mono-phile, in general, but as with the White Album, I think that the work on "Notorius" went into the stereo version and the mono was done quickly. After listening to it, I have to agree. However, the only thing with which I have to compare the mono is the CD reissue, so that might be skewering my opinion. BUT...... having my favorite Byrds album on MONO VINYL and being able to watch my favorite record "label" spin around in circles made this worth every penny!

I'm happy to report that the new location is OH SO SWEET! Not much bigger, and we almost drove right by it as it seems to have taken residence in what was once probably someone's house. But hey, I walked outta there with three mono records for under $30, so I stand by my earlier assessment: DOC'S ROCKS!!!

Mono copies of the following LPs I've been hunting down for a while: The Ventures Knock Me Out (with the correct song order; apparently this is more rare than the "incorrect" version) The Colorful Ventures The Notorious Byrd Bros. All for under $30.

That's cool! I've been wanting to hear this in mono since I read the book about this album in the 33-1/3 Series of books about LPs. Plus, I just love watching that Columbia label spin!

I think my days of jazz buying are drawing to a close. 2,359 titles in the oldies.com sale, and I could only find TEN discs? And two of them aren't even for me, they're for a friend! I have yet to push the button, and I may just whittle it down to the two titles for my friend. I've got more than enough music to last a few lifetimes, and for some reason the joy of looking for music and buying music has left me. Hell, for the longest time it seemed as if I would buy stuff just because I might listen to it later and it was at a good price. Well, a lot of those discs are still waiting for me to listen to them and I've had 'em for a LONG time! Although my wallet is happy, this is a major bummer for me. I just don't have the time or the energy anymore. And that's depressing because this was one of the true joys of my life, and now I don't enjoy it anymore. And I know everyone says that everyone goes through this once in a while, but this has been going on for MONTHS. I knew I'd reached a turning point when a friend of mine who lives outside the US asked if I would mind having the RAY CHARLES COMPLETE ATLANTIC BOX shipped to my house until the next time he was in the States. Even said I could open it up and listen to it. Well, that box has been sitting here for two weeks and I have yet to listen to even ONE of the discs! And it's not that I'm not curious or don't want to listen to it, it just feels very overwhelming right now, as does all music-listening right now. It feels like I'm listening to music out of a responsibility to justify the purchase(s) as opposed to listening to whatever is going through my head at the moment. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent.

Doc's Records was a favorite when they were in the Hurst/Euless/Bedford area; haven't been to their new store in Ft. Worth to check out the new digs. Not a huge selection, but a good one at decent prices.

What about Good Records? I know exactly which store you're referring to which you excluded, and I completely, totally, 100% agree with you. It's amazing that guy's still in business. I stopped at Good Records once and wondered, where are the records? Is this a joke? Really? I've never been there and have been curious for the longest time. Not any more. Is that the store with the poor, over-priced selection run by the creepy guy whose leering at you with bad intent? Yes, except there are no prices on anything (if you show any interest in something you have to negotiate with the creepy guy and he tries to cheat you)--and everything smells like it has been dipped in a vat of cigarettes and ashes for the last couple of decades. That's the one.

Greg Waits (aka Slide Advantage Redoux) is playing at Sandaga's tomorrow night (Wednesday the 15th). I think they go on around 8 or so. It's Greg on trombone, backed by piano, guitar, bass, and drums. I saw them last month and they swung something sweet, despite that I made up 50% of the audience (my next-door neighbor was the other half). Y'all come see him. I hope to be there (if I can't find anyone to go see Sonic Youth with me ).

Throw in Andruw Jones coming off a 3 home run game, and Felix pitching tonight! Great to have winning baseball back in Seattle. And Texas, too! This promises to be an exciting series. Last night's win (and series win) was HUGE. Sure am glad to see good things happening to/for the Rangers right now.

Agreed! Believe it or not, the first time I listened to this, my initial reaction was "This sounds like Pat Martino a la We'll Be Together Again, only with a B-3 instead of a Rhodes." I moved my DVD-drive out of my computer and into my son's computer, which didn't originally have a DVD-drive. MediaPlayer and RealPlayer tell me I need some kind of decoder. I've downloaded so many codecs and decoders by now, and none of them have worked, but maybe I just haven't hit the right one yet. Any advice out there?

I heard on the radio today that nobody is sure if he had a will. Can you imagine someone that wealthy whose financial advisors did not insist that he have a will? I can imagine someone that wealthy not listening to those advisors had they suggested he make a will.
