  1. That's an understatement: a 3-game sweep by the last-place A's in which the Rangers scored ONE WHOLE FUCKING RUN the entire series! It's as if someone snapped them out of the wonderful trance they've been in all summer and reminded them that they're the Rangers, they're not supposed to be in the playoffs. I'm telling ya: this WAS a good season, but if it comes crashing down like this, then my assessment will change.
  2. I've always loved him....
  3. That is just too cute...and I love her Daddy's response Yeah. That was cool. Awwww! That's a good dad right there!
  4. I have been looking forward to tonight!!! It's been far too long since I've heard Sangrey wail!
  5. I have that book. Learned how to play quite a few Beatles songs on the bass because of the descriptions of the chord structures and changes in the book.
  6. Ah, if there were only a way for the Rangers to play only the Angels and the Red Sox from now until the end of the season.....
  7. 1. You gave him information from the hip? I thought he was dealing with prostate cancer! (p'doom kssshh!!!) 2. Of course, Bruce's information oughta be from the hip, as he's one of the hippest cats around! (p'doom kssh!!!) 3. Of course, given paps condition and his name, maybe he should see a gynecologist. Then he could get a papsrusmear! (boooo!!! hisss!!! p'doom p'doom thudda thudda thuddaa..... ksshhh!!!!) Thank you! I'm hear all night! Seriously, my prayers of thanks and continued recuperation are with you both.
  8. See Allen's prior post prior to his prior prior post
  9. I guess this means that I can stop dreaming about the Analogue Productions 45-rpm re-issues.  DAMN!!! I mean, was a 5.1 mix too much to ask??? And then people wonder why the recording industry is in the crapper.
  10. Rangers lose 2 of 3 to Seattle. {{{sigh}}} Well, it was a fun year, more fun than usual.
  11. For me personally, I can't narrow it down to two because each album has its own uniqueness to it, and not one album is like any other. In other words, everything mentioned here is worthy but if you're like me, you'll eventually end up with the Prestige box, the RCA box, and the Freelance Years, as well as his work for Impulse and Blue Note. (I'm probably the only one on the planet who doesn't particularly care for his Blue Note output, except for Volume 2 and that only because of Art Blakey more than anything else)
  12. Blasphemy I know, but I actually prefer the US version, despite the fact that it does NOT include my favorite individual song on it: George's "If I Needed Someone."
  13. I know what you mean. The Beatlemaniac in me that's been suppressed for the last 20-odd years has broken free and I feel like I'm hearing this music fresh for the first time all over again. Only this time, I have a passenger: my son, who is also enjoying all of this to no end! We also have Rock Band Beatles and have yet to get tired of playing those songs, despite the fact that we've played them at least ten times each. I tell you what: if you REALLY want to get an appreciation for the level of musicianship, just play this game. Try an duplicate what these guys are playing. In some ways, this is more revelatory than hearing the new&improved CDs! Paul's bass lines and Ringo's drumming, while never technically astonishing, are still brilliant and imaginative in their own rights.
  14. Wednesday, 9/16: our own JSngry joins our own slide_advantage_redoux (Greg Waits) for his weekly gig at Sandaga's. If I am not there, call 911. I would sell my copy of the Beatles mono box (which I don't have yet) to make sure I don't miss this gig!
  15. But still miles above most of what was available at the time. It's not a great album, but it's probably their most honest work. Honesty ain't always pretty.
  16. Correct. I get the impression that posters here forget that. Not so much forgot as never knew/realized. In any event, you guys are right as evidenced by the e-mail I got from Mosaic: "Thank you for your thoughts but we are unable to obtain download rights from the licensors for the music."
  17. just what I seem to be doing right now... Me too. I'm eventually gonna have all of them, just a matter of spreading the money out as far as possible (and wondering if I can really wait until Christmas for a lot of the stereo discs?).
  18. Dogma doesn't answer the question. A copy of the CD is, when done right, a bit-for-bit copy. It's exact. It cannot be distinguished from a first generation CD. So I'll ask again: what's holding them back here? Which part of "Mosaic will not sell copies" don't you understand? The part that makes no sense. It's like saying "Mosaic will not sell CDs made on Mondays or Thursdays". It's absurd. The first generation CDs are just as much copies as the second generation CDs. So my question is WHY does Mosaic "not sell copies"? (I swear, my last post on this question. Don't want this thread degenerating into some silly flamewar. But I'm honestly curious.) Just speculating here, but with Mosaic, it's so much more than the music: it's an entire package. Mosaic doesn't make the booklets or keep extras in stock, and they don't print the artwork on the disc. Yes, Mosaic could logically make their own CDs and sell those, but that's exactly what sets them apart from the Lonehills and the other "budget-minded" companies: Mosaic is selling a package, and the discs are but a small part of that package. I don't know, perhaps Mosaic could open a separate branch for downloads only. Call it Mosaic Online or something. Lossless FLACs of past sets available for a limited time, with options to purchase/download pdfs of the booklets. No different than what Verve does. THAT, it seems, would be a legitimate revenue-generator as well as maintaining the high standards that Mosaic has set for itself. Just thinking out loud here. Hell, may as well send this idea to Mosaic; if they respond, I'll post it here.
  19. ...because the Indians are a AA team... LOL! Actually, I was kinda wondering the same thing....
  20. Great comments in here! I need to spin this one again while reading the comments!
  21. I'd just get the individual stereo masters. The DVD in the box contains the mini-docs that are on the individual CDs. Furthermore, the box is more expensive per-disc than the individual discs. Last but not least, Best Buy has the White Album on sale for $16.99 and the Past Masters 2-CD set for $12.99. If you were to buy all the stereo CDs at Best Buy, you'd actually be saving $15 off the box and getting pretty much the same thing (note that those prices are only good thru Saturday). What else is in mono-only besides "You Know My Name"? I looked at the set today but didn't buy it (yet).
  22. GO MARINERS!!!!
  23. Why? Hell, after losing 2 of 3 to Baltimore, I'm not sure either team is all that catchable now. I mean, if you can't beat 31-games-outta-first Baltimore, you got no business being in any playoff hunt.
  24. I wish I were as confident as you - we may have put the Rays out of it, but I can hardly count out the Rangers, particularly factoring in remaining schedule (I believe they play more games against below .500 teams) Don't forget that the Rangers have cratered against sub-.500 teams this year. Doesn't necessarily count 'em out, but the Angels seem a lot more catchable than the Sox right now.
  25. Okay Dan, if chemistry isn't worth shit and the Red Sox have a better bullpen than the Yankees, care to tell us why the Yankees are in first and the Red Sox are in second right now? I mean, my God: don't you enjoy this game at all? Or is making sure we all kowtow to your declared superiority of the Red Sox over everyone else your ultimate goal?
