I love the "Definitive" version, but I've never heard the "Avid" version. The "Definitive" version is aptly named, IMHO.

Speaking of, this is kind of what frustrates me about this mass deletion. Surely the continual licensing of these evergreens to audiophile labels (who sell their pressings for top dollar) have got to be offsetting costs somehow. And on a related note, let's delete a bunch of titles while releasing our own LP/CD packs of stuff that a) everyone who cares has probably already got on audiophile vinyl released in the last couple of years and b) anyone who cares has probably bought a dozen times already. I understand everything can't stay in print forever, but when you look at the number of different issues of Soul Station in the last few years, you have to ask if we could have a little less Soul Station and a little more Dippin'? Actually, I think we were lucky that Dippin' was even reissued at all. No kidding.

What's amazing is that, with the exception of A Fickle Sonance, these RVGs only came out within the last three years.

Correct - it is Art Farmer ! Any ideas on track details? It's not from "Gentle eyes", though that has a rather similar approach. My guess is, it's the title track from "Crawl space" on CTI. (Not Freddie Hubbard on CTI, but Art Farmer on CTI - very subtle!) MG Ah, yes! Gentle Eyes was the record I was thinking of! I could see the cover, but couldn't remember the name. So is it a CTI? I was re-looking at sidewinder's comments about my guess at this: Not Freddie on CTI - although again I can hear why you might think so. Does that mean that it's a CTI, but it's not Freddie? I see it's been established that it is definitely NOT Freddie; if this is a CTI, I've GOTS to find this one!

Well now I feel better about not getting this one, since I don't have the album from which it is drawn. Yet!

I was just thinking of this thread last night while listening to John Klemmer's BAREFOOT BALLET. Damn, that is some beautiful music. So what if it sounds like Kenny G for the 70's? For some reason it works for me!

Terry Gibbs Quartet TAKE IT FROM ME, his only Impulse! album, for $7 Don't know if this would be a "great find" or not, but I didn't even know it existed until I found it. Plus, I love this kind of lineup (vibes, guitar, bass, drums) and it features some of my favorite players (Gibbs, Kenny Burrell, Sam Jones, and Louis Hayes).

I really really hate the bass clarinet. If a soprano sax is the sound of a duck farting through a kazoo, then a bass clarinet sounds like an elephant farting through the muffler of a '76 Buick Delta.

Ah, don't be so hard on yourself, man! I didn't notice any inferiorities in the LP transfers; and, I'm not sure anyone's ever batted 1000 with their BFT. In fact, I remember thinking of my own BFTs, the first one (#21) was far superior to the second (#54), and was actually surprised more people enjoyed #54 than I figured. Like Dan sez, YMMV. Obviously, NHCOT™, but then neither one of us HAFC™!

12 - Amazing how everyone thinks this track has bass clarinet but it's actually baritone sax ! Well, that's okay; I still don't like the bass clarinet!
