  1. Revisited this one today - IMO the best recording of the pieces on the whole, and the only really complete one. Avoid the Naxos CDs by all means!
  2. Finally found a used copy of this at a reasonable price, looking forward to it. This would have fitted into the Swingville series just as well. One after another I fll the gaps in my collection.
  3. Later they changed this cover:
  4. Excellent: Great singer, fabulous programme concept.
  5. Brand new world premiere recording of an opera discovered only a few years ago.
  6. In Memoriam Lloyd McNeill
  7. This weekend's evening bottle, one of my favourite white wines: CANTINE SAN SILVESTRO ROERO ARNEIS DOCG 2019
  8. By the end of the 1960's there was quite a number of German jazz bred musicians experiemnting with rock rhythms - rock was their point of reference in most cases, although some played with black soul bands temporarily based in Germany. (I played in a local fusion band - Zyma - whose bassist was with Archie Bell & The Drells when they were over here.) Dave Pike & Volker Kriegel, Doldinger & Ingfried Hofmann were just the best known. Take Wolfgang Dauner's groups, Etcetera in particular, into account. Mal Waldron gigged with Embryo. There was a local group called Xhol Caravan which just had a reunion concert. You can find info on all these albums as well as links to YouTube samples on discogs.
  9. R.I.P. Such sad news. His melodies haunted me after first hearing Asha on AFN Europe. My discography now needs a update in the biographical part ...... https://jazzdiscography.com/lloyd-mcneill-discography/ His own website is really worth a visit and includes an amazing survey of his work. http://lmcneill1.weebly.com
  10. This brings up nice memories of a vacation on the island of Lanzarote, where this was played at some place where I bought a beautiful unique scarf made in Morocco. When I was in London's leading world music store a few months later at the occasion of a gig with Kurdish musicians, I asked the guy at the counter, and he immediately knew what it was. Great!
  11. Now playing: AS very underrated album, IMHO.
  12. ... but it looks like using the remasters from the Fantasy era, and Riverside and Contemporary releases under that same umbrella.
  13. Just listened to this for the umpteenth time since a week ago. I simply love this album. A relaxed effort with lots of feeling, Burrell plays "You Go To My Head" with so much feeling. Next:
