  1. Moore played om three Tjader sessions. I you want only these, two albums will do: Moore and Clark play on six of the 10 tracks. Moore plays on five of the eleven tracks, in a style similar to his sit ins with Machito. Two more tracks are one each on Moore's two Fantasy LPs. That box set is a bootleg by US law. In Europe the music is public domain. If you do not have any Tjader, it gives a nice overview of the 1950s sessions, but has no documentation except for musicians listings. Of course it repeats the oten scattered release pattern of the LP issues. Much music for the money.
  2. My copy should arrive tomorrow.
  3. Derrick Bang tells some about Guaraldi and the Peanuts music. The rights to the music in the films and the tracks recorded for Fantasy were held by different companies.
  4. The two albums in this twofer CD are among the best Tjader has made!
  5. Ammons recorded so much for Prestige that it would make sense to split it into three or more boxes: - early stuff (but that would overlap with the Stitt box or should be merged with it) - jam sessions - quartets with organ or piano - last period recordings As Craft has more of an LP orientation, the messed up albums splitting sessions over several LPs would cause them a problem.

  7. Just played my own CDR with all of Cal Tjader's early dates as a leader and sideman. Except for Brubeck or Shearing, that is.
  8. Organically grown pure Pecorino white wine from the Abruzze region, right in the middle between Rome and Pescara. A new favourite.
  9. This collects some of Tjader's very best straightahead vibes soloing.
  10. Yes, I know, but my sale was before that or I didn't notice that detail.
  11. I remember two gigs when transporting the Rhodes was downright dangerous. One was a very small spirall staircase In Heidelberg's famous "Cave" jazzclub. After that our pianist said he would never play there again, not for a thousand bucks for him alone. The other was in a club on the first floor of a shopping mall where the long escalator was the only way up. Or down, after the gig, when the Rhodes case almost escaped down all by itself. Those were the days ......
  12. If I had known that, I wouldn't have sold the LPs. Fantasy sometimes did that, or left off a track, but always noted this. Not on the back liner of this CD.
