  1. Schumann was adored by many French late 19th century composers, he introduced many ideas they liked, and he favored smaller forms just as the French, wo were not that much inclined with sonata forms and the like - so no wonder.
  2. Listened to this for the first time ever. although I have since I bought the big Herbie Box eight years ago. The sound? If this was direct-to-disk, they would have to take the loudest passage as reference level, and that was Tony Williams' drumming on Skagly. On Finger Painting all is back to normal, as Tony played at a much lower level on that track. Multi-track studio recording, different styles with varyying drum levels, and direct-to-disc - hard to gte these under one hat. The box has the A Side in two versions - so they played it safe. For the CD they used the alternative version.
  3. Just listened to Disc 1 of the Miles and Trane Columbia box, but will return to Jelly Roll now as pictured above.
  4. ..... and Chopin had plenty reasons for being moody.
  5. I should have taken part. The Pointer version of Black Coffee ist the best ever, IMO.
  6. This is the classic book on the subject - highly recommended.
  7. Thanks, the same to you and all lovers of good wine over here!
  8. I once took my wife to an open air theatre production of a Molière comedy in local Hassian dialect, in the garden of the Bolongaro palace at the Main River banks where my parents got married in 1939. She didn't get that specific Hassian humor.
  9. It was very good, but not sensational. If you like those cuvées from Southern France, you will not be disappointed. Made of Grenache Noir, Syrah, and Mourvèdre grapes from up to 80 year old vignes. The Silvester weekend bottle: 2019 Königschaffhauser Steingrüble Pinot Noir Blanc de Noirs Winzergenossenschaft Königschaffhausen-Kiechlinsbergen
  10. In essence the berimbao exists in various form of musical bows in Africa and was adopted by Capoeira practioners looking for suitable instruments to accompany their dances and martial arts practicing. There even was a musical bow of African origin played by white people in some rural US area, as Gerhard Kubik reports in hid book "Africa and the blues". If your ceiling is too low, play sitting down or use a vertical bow type.
  11. You could share the work. Set up an excel file or a database, type in the first fifty sessions and issues and pass it on to the next person. Open Office can handle and save Microsift files as well. You could type all into a new Brian file as well and limit it to Blue Note sessions. As different compilations exist this could be an advantage. Share the files, share th work.
  12. Either way, someone has to type the data into an excel table or a database. Do the work first.
  13. That's the onomatopoetic name given to it by British colonists. There are different names used by the respective Australian native ethnicities.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Didgeridoo
  14. This shows pretty well what he can do.
  15. Have you heard Geoff Keezer's solo piano CDs?
  16. Judging from track timings these are previously unreleased takes, as the label states. LP only. https://black-forest-sounds.de/produkte/black-forest-echoes
  17. The latter is not two LPs, it's one ten-incher - both sides are pictured. I had the CD/DVD pack already but will pass it on to our best friends. Bought these two myself, I always fulfill me some wish for Xmas. My wife wouldn't dare buy music for me. She bought me a newly published book on the women of the Bach family, which I already read through. A dear friend sent her a great coffee table book on Tuva, that comes with a CD by Huun-Huur-Tu and a documentary DVD on throat singing.
  18. This is an excellent, very tasteful album - highly recommended.
