Vinyl afternoon and evening: If you how Jackie Davis plays the Hammond and enjoy it, you can buy this. If not ..... sound is excellent, and Irving Ashby and Milt Holland play tastefull accompaniment. iIf you dig Davis, you may fare better with either of the two double CD reissues, both sound good: Both include Jumpin' Jackie but otherwise do not overlap. Listen to some samples. If you like his organ style, which comes from Fats Waller and Milt Buckner and has almost nothing in common with the newer Jimmy Smith followers, then you will enjoy it. Otherwise, you will think it is corny.

Right now I have no means to connect my computer to the HiFi. But it is on the list. To make sure one would have to compare all existing issues of a track. Sometimes they are just different edits, sometimes they are alternates. Some of the tracks on compilations are leftovers from LP sessions, like the Teddy Edwards with Hampton Hawes, which was made at a Jimmy Witherspoon session. Many labels did so, but Richard Bock was the wildest.

No - seems like they got stock of boxes from a pizza service that closed due to the pandemic. Box shows no signs of use with foodstuffs. The Amy/Bryant track here has the same duration as the one on the LP, so it may be identical. That said - those Pacific Jazz samplers are a pain in the ..., discographically. Edited versions, alternates - all without notice. Those two World Pacific compilations are erntirely different affairs.

Just discovered this old thread - my discography of Paul Bryant might be helpful - his recording activity is all between 1960 and 1965 but all is interesting. The first revision is due, as I just found out by aural comparison that the the takes of This Is The Blues on the Pacific Jazz sampler with the same title and the LP The Blues Message are different! I am not surprised, as Richard Bock used unissued takes in most cases for his samplers.

Just unpacked a parcel from a Swiss discogs seller (they call themselves Vesuvio Records and used a pizza box for packing ....) as they had an affordable copy in good condition of a Pacific Jazz sampler I always wanted to have: It turns out the take of This Is The Blues on this sampler is different from the one on Amy/Bryant's The Blues Message LP and the Select. So Mosaic missed a take! (They also could have included the one track from a McCann session in the Select - this was reissued on the CD version of Les McCann in New York).

The recent releases on Cryptogramophone are all worth a listen.

RIP. It is great that he kept his inner jazz connection all the time. But I must admit that I never liked the Stones or listened to what he was playing on their records.

AFAIK from James Harrod's research, there is no audio or videotape from this show. At least Calliope did not issue music from this show. I have yet to hear the two Fantasy LPs and the one with Howard Roberts, but Like all the others a lot. The pairing with Griffin is special.

French Musidisc pressing. The cover is a bit worn, but the disc is in fine condition.
