  1. Sometimes a leaf dries and turns brown. I cut these off, although in their natural environment they rot to become part of the soil they grow on. The stems of the blossoms sometimes become dry, too, others stay green and a baby plant may appear on them. Or a new stem grows from the center for the new flowers.
  2. Mine are all doing fine, blossoming anew every year. They need light, but dislike direct sunlight exposure. My are in a window facing north which is perfect. They dislike hard water - I water my one or twice a week with distilled water but give them a dose of special fertilizer very two months. No cold air streams. The blossoms can stay for two months in the right environment. But they will drop them first when dehydrated a bit. Be sure to use the proper special soil, too, they prefer rather loose ground. We have stopped buying any as they blossom every year, but during different months.
  3. At a dollar apiece I would grab it, too. Long on my wantlist.
  4. My wife never would take the risk of buying a CD for me, only if it was precisely named on a wish list. But she knows what sweets to buy and surprise me with, Italian Tartufos ..... It's okay th way it is.
  5. Was watching Paul Bernays' documentary on Mose Allison earlier this evening. Well done film, recommended. Included in this package:
  6. I had pre-ordered the new one from JPC but got a cancellation note. They now offer it again but at a higher price. Too late, as I ordered at a much cheaper rate, including shipping, from Sleepy Night directly. It was on its way the day after I ordered. https://www.sleepynight-shop.com/product/don-ellis-the-lost-tapes-vol-3
  7. The format of the cover pics is as in the web source from which they are linked.
  8. These are really very good, any of them. They are all listed in my Don Patterson Discography, including info on the type of sax Stitt played, for those who dislike the Varitone. https://jazzdiscography.com/Artists/don-patterson/index.php
  9. So far today: Next up:
  10. Two DVDs this evening: Two days ago:
  11. Today in the car:
  12. Bear Family should have treated Lou Rawls like they treated Nat King Cole with their two big box sets of his Capitol recordigs. I can understand why Michael Cuscuna had mixed feelings about the early singles and so on, but still ..... he would have deserved it.
  13. What is it she doesn't like about Brubeck?
  14. No, it was the two Lloyd McNeill CDs I had ordered from Soul Jazz. It was held at the delivery depot for almost two weeks before it was released by the customs. Shipping agents probably are not amused .....
  15. I wasn't charged anything for this shipment of two CDs. Don't ask me why.
  16. Do not expect me to remember ...
  17. Just got me this CD with interesting versions of his vocal tunes, including a DVD with a documentary by by Paul Bernays, Mose Allison: Every Since I Stole The Blues. I will reported after I have watched the DVD. https://www.discogs.com/Various-If-Youre-Going-To-The-City-A-Tribute-To-Mose-Allison/release/14516607 http://www.fatpossum.com/announcing-if-youre-going-to-the-city-a-tribute-to-mose-allison/ http://www.fatpossum.com/taj-mahal-jackson-browne-celebrate-the-legendary-mose-allison/

    Gary Burton

Got me a copy of this 2001 release last week, as I was (of course) interested in Burton's take on a Tjader tribute, and I am pleasantly surprised. He has a thorough grab of the jazz vibes tradition, and has original ideas when treating the tunes he selected, e.g. he writes a John Lewis style counterpart to Bags' Groove, which always is taken as prime example of Milt Jackson's alternative to the "academic" MJQ sound, gives Afro Blue a very modern Cuban Jazz treatment, etc. He plays the last two tracks on xylophone and marimba - very nice to hear him on these!
  19. This morning: Later in the evening: This is a great Ellington Live recording! The band is full of energy, has a solid groove, all solos are excellent.
  20. Each time my wife and I travel by car this gets heavy spinning: One of my favourite singers.
  21. There is some dah doo dah on The Prophet. A very underrated album, as the rhythm section with Joao Donato (on organ), Red Mitchell, and Ed Thigpen is excellent. I would love to hear this one without the overdubs.
