It is!

It was delivered today by amazon. A properly licensed reissue, mastered from master tapes in the Warner vaults, sounding good - better engineering than on the Prestige albums. The music is groovy, all sidemen are inspired. I'm glad I got me a copy. A small cardboard box with six CDs in separate cardboard slipcases and a nice booklet, btw. ... and there are such priceless lyrics as "Your mind is on vacation, and your mouth is working overtime."

So I listened to Tori for the first time in my life this afternoon . wonderful music, as expected.

I finally received the two CDs after they were shipped on July 13! It took the customs two weeks to clear them. No charges, as they had been smart enough to declare the value at a level just below the € 22 margin. I recommend anybody who wants them to order soon - only 1.000 copies worldwide made of each CD. They just announced another limited pressing of Washington Suite on red vinyl.

Turns out amazon.de had it in stock. Higher price, but free shipping. It will be delivered on Thursday.

I had pre-ordered that through JPC - it was due out yesterday - but got an e-mail that it was oop or deleted! Now they offer the Japanese version at twice the charge. Been playing through this set this morning. Sound is okay, but one album has been de-noised a bit too much (needle drop?). The three alternates from "Ramblin' with Mose Allison" are missing. Fantasy should have done this themselves. The music is very nice. The box is oop on the Fresh Sound website, but the German distributor still seems to have some copies.

The two Lloyd McNeill CDs I ordered from Soul Jazz in the UK crossed the channel quickly but then stayed in the German delivery depot for 13 days until it was processed by the customs. Now I'm curious how much their charge will be. I always found it ridiculous that they include shipping costs when calculating import charges.

As far as I can see this replicates the original 8 track LP and does not include the three bonus tracks added to the 1986 CD reissue. That's sad, as they are good and feature a rare Phil Woods clarinet solo. Completists, beware!

I saw that band in Frankfurt during the same tour. They sure were swinging hard!

I highly recommend "Ode to 52nd Street" to everybody here that purchased the other Verve reissues. The "Suite for Guitar and Orchestra" by Burrell and Richard Evans is as good as any of the other works with orchestral arrangements. The credits, btw, say that Burrell appears coourtesy of Verve Records.

Judging from this recent reissue, they must have tapes in good condition: I wonder if they will include the tracks from the session that were released later without her consent. I have a 1981 Japanese vinyl reissue that sounds great: It would be nice if BMG reissued the whole Bethlehem catalog in good remasters and less cluttered compilations than previously available.

I never looked at it as substituting anything for meat. Those who do are not real vegetarians.They are still thinking meat and missing it. I do not miss it. If I want some, I eat some. But seeing how most animals are grown and killed in a factory-like way, kills my appetite. I only buy meat from local organic farmers.

Will try this. My wife and I are 95% vegetarian.

Saw him perform with the Vienna Art Orchestra. Excellent trumpet player. R.I.P.
