  1. There is another Donati LP on the Tampa label listed discogs: https://www.discogs.com/William-Donati-With-Bass-Accomp-Modern-InterpretationsIn-A-Continental-Manner/release/9065158
  2. It was a nice event, in an early 19th century Masonic hall in the city of Frankfurt, only 150 seats, good acoustics. Nice moderation explaining the music, some anecdotes from their concert life . I have been following them for those many years, have most of their numerous recordings, they are all my generation, we have grown old. Their performances have reached a stage of cool wisdom and relaxation without losing any of the energy the music needs. Great.
  3. That Tampa LP is the only recording of Donati listed in the Lord disco, which say its "jazz content is limited". Fred Katz and Carson Smith are on cello and bass, btw.
  4. No matter what the title, Allen's projects are all interesting as hell - no: heaven - musically that is. You won't get better cross-referential American music history. And at that price ....
  5. 40th anniversary concert of Camerata Köln, one of the leading ensembles in period performance of baroque music in Germany. http://www.camerata-koeln.de
  6. Was that reissued on CD?

  13. From me, too - keep rolling!
  14. It can be intentional. There was a CD reissue in February 2019 of two of George Shearing's Capitol albums (Latin Esacapade & Mood Latino) on Essential Jazz Classics limited to only 500 copies!
  15. I think any musician who moved to another country for longer than a year qualifies - no matter what direction he or she took. Sir Charles Thompson permanently moved to Japan in 2002. Has anybody mentioned these other greats living in France and elsewhere? Johnny Griffin Sidney Bechet Nina Simone David Friedman Walter Norris (the latter two taught in Berlin for many years) Pianist Mickey Tucker and drummer Chad Wackerman moved to Australia. German born guitarist David Fiuczyinsky moved to the US. Rolf Kühn lived in the US for some time. And what about the many Cubans, Carrbeans, and South Americans moving to th USA? Some more Europeans moving to the US: Miroslav Vitous Jan Hammer Vera Auer Tommy Vig Milcho Leviev Michal Urbaniak Urszula Dudziak Avishai Cohen
  16. Billy Brooks Pony Poindexter Keith Copeland Lucky Thompson
  17. Lou Blackburn Allen Blairman Tom Nicholas Herb Geller Charlie Mariano Oscar Pettiford Bud Powell
  18. Excellent disc of rarely played music - Balbastre's transcription of opera tunes, mostly by Rameau. Samples here: http://www.encelade.net/index.php/en/hikashop-menu-for-products-listing-2/product/7-airs-d-opera-accommodes-pour-le-clavecin
  19. Just don't take it too seriously. It's supposed to be fun, no more. I listen and laugh and chuckle all the time. He gives me more of a good time than any other saxist. If he were a percussionist playing like that, I'd probably share your thoughts.
  20. Excellent performance and booklet notes. Wilson had to do a lot of work preparing the sheet music for this recording. Great playing and sound, too, on a lovely instrument of a rarely heard type.
  21. Just ordered a copy .....
