  3. Here's what the Lord disco says: Henderson's Habiliment : Joe Henderson Quartet : Joe Henderson (ts) Hideo Ichikawa (el-p) Kunimitsu Inaba (b) Motohiko Hino (d) Live "Junk Club", Tokyo, Japan, August 4, 1971 'Round midnight (1) World (Jap)SMJX-10123, Milestone MSP9047 Black narcissus [Out'n in] - - Blue bossa (1) - - Junk blues (1) - - Note: "Black Narcissus" as "Out 'n in" (a retitling of "In 'n out") on Milestone, OJC releases. Milestone MSP9047 titled "Joe Henderson in Japan"; titles (1) are all edited on this release. All above titles also on OJC CD1040-2 [CD], Milestone 8MCD-4413-2 [CD].
  4. Excellent brandnew recording!
  5. Martinon really felt this music, IMO ... Just finished this here:
  6. On discogs they say this album was reissued twice.
  7. Yes, judging from the tracklist: https://www.discogs.com/Alberto-Naranjo-Alberto-Naranjo-Y-Su-Trabuco-Imagen-Latina/release/9336720
  8. One of the best Latin albums I ever heard! But rare - had to order it from Venezuela ...
  9. This was brought to me at 9.00 am this morning. Was picked up by TNT Express in Barcelona yesterday in the afternoon. Glad to finally have it here. I will keep my LP of the original "Count Em 88" LP for sure as it is in very good condition and sounds much better than the LP dub they had to use for the box set. This is an iconic body of work in the history of jazz piano trio!

    New Monk

Seems like a batch of excellent Monk to add to one's collection.
  11. I think the Fort Apache Band was living proof that you could fuse the jazz stylistics of the 1960's Miles Davis Quintet with Cuban music - they limited themselves mostly to rumba, because that gave them an open improvisatory frame that other rhythms will not allow you to the same degree. But I think Jerry Gonzalez' greatest album was his first, a true Latin Jazz masterpiece:
  12. It all depends how much you like Jamal and this unique trio's playing concept. In any case, you'd need this CD to complement the above: No track duplications, and this IMO contains the superior selection. When they compiled Cross Country Tour they simply continued where Ahmad's Blues left off. I'm looking forward to my copy of the Mosaic box set.
  13. Great set! Can't wait until my copy of the Mosaic box arrives.
  14. Oh no ....... R.I.P.
  15. A great artist! R.I.P. Couldn't help but order the CD with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra.
  16. Both from this double CD reissue: The Ellington album is always overshadowed by the Basie album, but is just as magnificent - it makes you listen to Duke's writing in a different way. An underrated gem!
  17. What an impressive series of recollections and compliments!
  18. 2013 vintage - a small dose every evening.
  19. Sorry - seems I always close my ears whenever Clapton starts singing ...
  20. Clapton copied Rush's solos note for note on the tunes John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers covered - some Mayall fan was quite surprised when I played him the Otis Rush originals many years ago. R.I.P. - Rush was one of the very few blues artists I really loved. His Cobra sides are among my desert island discs, as is the Cotillion LP Mike Bloomfield and Nick Gravenites produced - God bless them for this. His raw power was somethin' else.
  21. AFAIK Harris never recorded on vibes, although it was his first instrument, along with piano (on which he recorded quite often). That Janus LP to me smells like a bootleg of some VeeJay tracks with titles changed. As MG and Ubu noted, "Indonesia" is listed as unissued on VeeJay - "Olifant Gesang" (different spelling) was issued. Aural comparison could help to find out if takes are different. I have the version issued on VeeJay, but not the Janus.
