  1. Count me among the victims who gave up on completing their B.B. King collection ...
  2. In this case, a subscription to the Tom Lord discography site would be worth considering .... Rust covers recordings up to 1942. The listings on https://www.jazzdisco.org/ have to be taken with a grain of salt. Compare their Wes Montgomery disco, e.g., with the one Noal Cohen just finished, linked on https://jazzdiscography.com - these are some of the best and most elaborate.
  3. I thought it might be a good idea to collect links to discographies of jazz musicians spread over the internet, thoroughly researched ones that is. I got the idea earlier today when receiving an e-mail from the Darmstadt Jazz Institute linking to two files with the chronology and discography of Lee Morgan - the author has written a biography and wanted to update the listings in the book. Attention: clicking these links will open a download window for the pdf files: https://www.press.umich.edu/pdf/leemorgan_chronology.pdf https://www.press.umich.edu/pdf/9780472115020-Discography.pdf The book on the publisher's site: https://www.press.umich.edu/132323/delightfulee/?s=supplemental_materials More to come - please feel free to post your recommendations. Moderators: If this thread proves to be useful, maybe you can pin it?
  4. The one above was the last, there are three more covering the years from 1944, i.e. her first dates for Continental and all the Musicraft sides, to the early Columbias: There are numerous CDs covering that part of her recording career, but dont ask me which one is the most "complete", by whatever standard. It's hard to find tracklists for all - like the one on Le Chant du Monde: How's that for covers, TTK?
  5. The Classics CDs of course do not have the alternates issued later on the Legacy reissue
  6. I count 72 issued tracks on various Columbia issues in the Lord Disco, and half a dozen that remain unissued despite quite a number resurrected from the vaults for CD issues. According to Lord some of those 72 tracks are not in the "Complete" box, not to speak of the still unissued .... .... another missed opportunity. The major companies are so fixated on the "original album" .... You have to get the Chronological Classics CD below for the 1949 Columbia tracks not in the box.
  7. The internet is not free, it costs your monthly access fee. And the info you may find will not always be correct. Nor will be the nice guys on here be without fault, me included. Discographical information always has at least minor incorrect data, even on a reliable source like jazzdiscography.com. Even on the back covers of LPs or CD booklets which make a good impression.
  8. Reissue of two Decca LPs. This originally cheap Spanish issue now goes for high prices - I was lucky to find a low price offer. Nice, but not as impressive as I thought it would be. Larkins is the congenial accompanist and perhaps shines the most in that role.
  9. The Rivers set is a must for anyone interested in his playing. But perhaps you should set the price a tad lower.
  10. Perfect music for what is going to be the hottest day of the year, so far .... and to my ears, Jobim's finest US album. That a German wrote the beautiful arrangements with perfect empathy is one of the few things that make me feel fine with being of this nation.
  11. Same here - just last week I noticed another second hand store has vanished. Back to topic - your discussion watered my mouth. I'll buy the new edition.
  12. I enjoy this set, but frankly, can understand that the first session in the set was not released at the time. Some of Tommy Turrentine's and Horace Parlan's playing on Comin' Your Way sounds a bit strange, harmonically, to my ears. Jubilee Shout is great (had the Blue Note twofer LP for a while and liked it back then); Another Story is nice but not overwhelming. Wanted to have that for Thad Jones. Looking forward to the rest.
  13. Got them through customs without problems?
  14. Very nice - and a good example that you play what you see and hear in the music. This makes audible just how much late 18th cenrury "classical" composers owe to early 18th century Italian music.
  15. The postman delivered the Mosaic Turrentine a moment ago - took four weeks at the lowest shipping rate. Customs were collected at the door, invoice was attached, they had opened tha package to check its contents, which is routine - nothing damaged. All is well ...
  16. ! There are so many jazz greats whose music I love on the list it is hard to make a choice for the HOF ...
  17. Jazz Messengers takes sets from their website when they are out of stock and put them up again as soon as the new batch has arrived.
