  1. Yesterday it was this brand new release - both are excellent, btw.:
  2. Some are just fun, that's all.
  3. Last evening I decided to sell my vinyl collection as soon as I get too old or shaky to handle it properly. The first scratch will be the last.
  4. Larger cover pics, LP and CD - the music is excellent. Details here: https://www.discogs.com/The-Boyd-Raeburn-Orchestra-Experiments-In-Big-Band-Jazz-1945/release/7567648
  5. Had a listen this afternoon and must say he obviously had his influences, but a very personal sound. The way he performs "Sping Can Really Hang You Up The Most" is first class! R.I.P.
  6. Will give this one a spin later ...
  7. One more time - because the playing is so good!
  8. I had an LP reissue early in my collector's beginnings, and now have it as part of the Max Roach Plus Four Mosaic box. Taken as a drum battle, I always found Max Roach won by points, as he took more chances, while Rich played it rather safe relying on his machine gun technical precision.
  9. I have quite a few of the reissue LPs released in the 1980's - Teddy Wilson, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, Boyd Raeburn, Harry "The Hipster" Gibson - much of the material was on CD, too - I have the Ellington sides in that format. Everything I have is very good to excellent music. The list on discogs has some gaps but gives a good idea of the catalogue from 1940's shellac sides to CDs. https://www.discogs.com/label/144929-Musicraft A more detailed account can be found under http://www2.scc.rutgers.edu/ead/ijs/musicraftf.html
  10. R.I.P. Happened to catch an interview with Alexander von Schlippenbach earlier today in the car, he talked about how he admired Cecil, went to his concerts and got to meet him in Berlin - Cecil was at his home and they talked .... what a coincidence. I wondered how he was doing, log in here and read the news.
  11. They're good players, just not hip enough for Babs.
  12. No - one track - Shirley's Shuffle - is missing on the GRP reissue CD. Besides that, the Lord disco shows five more unissued tracks from these sessions. Scott/Turrentine would make a nice box set.
  13. He had more hipness in one fingertip than that whole French rhythm section. Some are taking jazz a tad too serious ...
  14. Thanks for posting!
  15. Try searching here: https://www.hraudio.net/ For SACD and other high resolution media, this is the better database.
  16. Once more at full volume, now that the neighbours are on Easter vacation. I hope Minkowski gets around to recording the whole Carmen opera - his tempos are much more organic (and exactly what Bizet notated!) than, e.g., those Gardiner chose: the latter's Overture chases furiously, while Minkowski makes it swing and dance. I love it.
