  1. Afro-Jaws has a piece of ethnic art, but nonetheless, that's what I was looking for. The Russell is another hit. The Burrell and Dolphy are on Prestige, I am looking for Riverside LPs only, sorry, please ... and musicians posing with an art object!
  2. I'm specifically looking for those covers where the musician posed with an art object.
  3. I'm aware some members are not fond of them, but I kind of like them, and am curious if I know them all: Any more?
  4. I wonder why Caiman doesn't offer these through amazon.de: They used to offer anything available from Fantasy.
  5. Used copies sell at amazon.com for $95.96 or more ...
  6. This is ridiculous!!! Those sellers are immoral!!! Seriously: Is there no way to alert amazon to this, or do their policies allow anyone to offer anything but offensive items at any price? I sincerely hope nobody will buy at these prices.
  7. Also I think a basic problem lies in the assumption man can get faster or whatever all the time. There might be a limit to human physical abilities - no more new best timings etc. We should accept a certain level that can be achieved without any other enhancement than simple training.
  8. Those who renamed it "tour de farce" are damn right! Seems it has been so for years. There is a lot of discussion here about doping and the government considers withdrawing their sponsoring for disciplines where doping prevails. I think they are right.
  9. If you can't find yours, I will step in.
  10. Now this could cause my first order with Mr. Tanno!
  11. Earlier this morning, after the postman rang: Don Patterson - Goin' Down Home, w. Paul Weeden & Billy James Great album!
  12. Same here ..... I'm getting real mad every time I think about this! Second hand shops will see me more often now, but I'm afraid I will not be the only one.
  13. I just received this CD: It includes the complete 'Round Midnight LP as well as Hear! Now! - at a total running time of less than 70 minutes. Kirk Felton's remastering sounds great - get this, it is still available, and skip the RVG. You get twice as much music at a better price per minute. Including this in the RVG series is nonsense. p.s.: You would miss some great Jerome Richardson when skipping the Hear! Now! album!
  14. I think Verve made an unsuccessful attempt to find them when they reissued the His Majesty King Funk LP, but couldn't find them or found they were unreleasable (or didn't find them ) und added the Donald Byrd LP Up for this reason. That's no news I'm tellin' but when there are no details in the official Verve disco, I wouldn't hold my breath.
  15. I had about half of the Rainbows and sold them all - the CD masterings are much better!
  16. Good thread! Strictly according to the title question (in chronological order): Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn John Coltrane - Transition Herbie Hancock - Crossings Abbey Lincoln - Straight Ahead Lester Young - Complete Aladdin Sessions
  17. An uncle of mine returned his drivers licence after a crash - we had noticed he was less assured while driving and recommended it to him, but he wouldn't listen ... Agree on the young drivers, though. In Germany they introduced a strict no alcohol regulation for beginners.
  18. Would be a nice tune for the trio, with a looser groove and slightly faster - no problem for randissimo!
  19. Capuccino made with Doge Nero beans - see Caffe del Doge
  20. No idea - no trace on Herbie's or the Legacy websites.
  21. I have all the tracks downloaded and burned to CD - no problem as far as this is concerned. Just need some time to listen without distractions. But what I have heard is very nice!
  22. There also is a duo CD of Harold Mabern and Geoffrey Keezer on Sackville, but I have yet to hear it.
  23. I second the recommendation on the Lewis/Jones - there's more but rare stuff on Japanese labels. I have a Jaki Byard / Earl Hines LP that's great! Saw Barry Harris and Kenny Barron duet on some TV documentation, no idea whether they made a recording, but what I heard was great. Any duet with Harris, Hank Jones, Barron, or Flanagan would get my recommendation. For hyperbole, check out the Contemporary Piano Ensemble: on their first CD (I think it is available on Evidence) it's just duets - James Williams, Harold Mabern, Geoffrey Keezer, Mulgrew Miller in different pairings - but on the second on DIW (with Donald Brown added) it's four (!) pianos at a time, and they have a great time!
  24. Sorry I haven't posted any guesses so far, but other things kept me busy, and now I am encountering some strange computer problems - the damn thing always stops at some point in the startup process and I cannot find out which software is responsible. Now it works, but next time I restart it could happen again, so do not wonder where I am in case I won't show up here for a few days. I'm close to buying a new computer ... p.s. things look better now, but I'm cautious ...
  25. Beautiful to see him on video - too sad there isn't more. I always loved Dorham much more than Miles! Just saw that SteepleChase double CD has both of his LPs for the label at budget price, but with different sidemen - that's a nice rhythm section on the video.
