  1. With the latest additions I counted 114 single CDs. 5 more on the way from Newbury Comics, and they certainly won't be the last. But I guess I already had more Fantasy CDs than most here.
  2. You mean the one that can be seen on the Coltrane-Dolphy video? Yes, that's the one.
  3. That's what I thought ... The TV recording I mentioned was taped in the Südwestfunk Studios at Baden-Baden, like most shows for Berendt's series "Jazz gehört und gesehen" (Jazz heard and seen). They had a special set decoration that's not on any of the YouTube videos. And there was more Max to be seen ...
  4. Any of these would deserve being discussed as AOTW! Abbey Lincoln's Straight Ahead which I chose as AOTW not too long ago, is another piece of the puzzle. I remember Joachim Berendt taped the Roach/Lincoln unit with parts of the Suite for German TV - very impressive! He raved about it in his Jazzbuch, but it was oop at the time - it took me many years to get a copy, which was an Italian needle drop LP reissue. I also remember there was some dispute about the correct track order - now which one is it?
  5. Sorry, but in my opinion being busy is not an excuse for not sending stuff that's been paid for and for not replying to repeated questions over a period of eight months (and counting...) And if something serious has happened, why send e-mails about a vacation until July 15?? You're right, of course, and it sounds inconsistent indeed. I sincerely wish there's a good reason for everything.
  6. It could be that he is very busy - when I visited him a little over a year ago he told me about serious problems with his business. Then the storm hit their roof. But there must be something serious happening when he rejects communication. Well, as I said, when I have a chance to stop by when I am close to the region where he lives I will do so and report here, but I have no idea when this will be .....
  7. http://www.nnenna.com/ yes, but can she sing? You bet she can! Seriously - I first heard her on T.S. Monk's big band tribute to his dad, where she outscatted Dianne Reeves, IMO - more guts and bite. I have bought most of her albums since and haven't been disappointed. Try the first three on Columbia (oop but can be find used easily) - the Concords are nice but a bit more conceptualized.
  8. Even some OJC LP reissues of Fantasy titles have been printed on coloured vinyl. I have ..... on red vinyl, OJC 120, "Jazz Guitarist" by Eddie Duran ..... and some more. Hmm ..... my OJC copy of the Duran (which is a very fine album, btw) is on black vinyl.
  9. I' still adding to the list in my first post - still picking discs from the shelf, and at this instant it's 92 CDs, not counting the box sets ...
  10. One can't say it in fewer words ... Strange: I wouldn't walk out that much on Bennett like most here do - I have only very few of his albums, 1 or 2, and like them - there's something about this board concerning highly subjective opinions about singers. As for Wonder, I liked his albums back in the 1970's, but they don't say as much to me now, and I think, like Christiern, that he is far beyond his prime. There have been countless pop singers in recent years suddenly discovering their lifelong connection to jazz. I don't buy it, as they didn't have the guts to pay their dues with jazz. I'm glad I don't have to buy or listen to this one.
  11. I'd rather expect them to create USB sticks with replaceable tootbrush attached .....

  13. Greazy 'Gratulations!
  14. It's interesting that the matrix numbers of his Vault recordings are in line with those for Atlantic, like they were recorded for Atlantic and taken over by Vault. If that's true, there might be a slight chance they're still lying around somewhere, otherwise I'd say they were destroyed in the fire. That Vault label also released two Hampton Hawes LPs which also were reissued on Fresh Sound. Wonder why they never got around two reissue the other two Wilson Vault LPs - maybe for lack of vinyl to drop the needle on?
  15. Yes, I thought the same after buying the first of his two Discovery LPs with the two-piano technique. He played a lot of counterpoint with each hand on a different keyboard in a rather virtuosic, busy style. I have to admit that outside of his partnership with Roy Ayers, he didn't thrill me that much as a pianist, not even on his Atlantic trio LP.
  16. I've seen red, blue, and green LPs, but never yellow or purple. Oh, the colorful fantasy (!) of journalists .... Actually , some of Fantasy's 10-inch LPs were pressed on purple vinyl : Yellow vinyl pressings wouldn't surprise me , since I believe that even vinyl with multi-color marbling was issued . In addition , some of Fantasy's disco 12" singles in the late 70's may have used exotically colored vinyl as well . That one I saw on an ebay auction, but it looked more like blue on my screen ..... I tend to give in, although I think this looks more like blue, and shines though in purple .
  17. My thoughts exactly!
  18. Zaentz' stories are a nice exemplification of how to invest in non-profit endeavours - such as jazz reissues - after making money with rock bands or movies. Chuck is right: God bless the Zaentz' and Weiss' and all the other good people! Amen!
  19. I second that emotion. Only one detail: I've seen red, blue, and green LPs, but never yellow or purple. Oh, the colorful fantasy (!) of journalists ....
  20. The ECM coming soon page says August 2007 - scroll down. JPC has a release date of September 4, however.
  21. Here's a review of his solo LP - the link to his website produces "under construction" ... Charles Eubanks on C.I.M.P. From Artist Outreach Network:
  22. That's Definitive, not Gambit - not that this makes a major difference ... There's also a nice compilation of the early stuff scattered over various albums, often with material from other pianists:
  23. Hm, is that avalible? It's in the Fresh Sound catalogue, but temporarily out of stock. They will probably repress it in the near future. I suggest you watch their site.
