  1. I only discovered this recently when it was mentioned somewhere here on the death of Jean Louis Chautemps I know Jeanneau a fair bit and have come across Caron a couple of times but that's all for me. I enjoy the album
  2. Just dug out my 'Passengers' LP for the first time in ages because of this BFT. Sounding lovely.
  3. Bobby Hutcheson - Components [Blue Note, Liberty RP, 1967] Happy 80th Birthday Joe Chambers
  4. Dembo Konte & Kausu Kuyateh - Simbomba [Rogue Records, UK 1987] purchased a while ago after it was posted by the much missed @paul secor
  5. Now onto another from MHH label On Our Own Clock - s/t [Mushroom Half Hour/Total refreshment Centre, SA/UK 2021]
  6. Both are definitely interesting, both from SA as you've probably guessed. Mogorosi has an imminent release on Mushroom Half Hour which I predict will make some noise, both albums feature a choir, a bit 'Lift Every Voice' but not really. Works for me Spaza are a collective (isn't everyone these days) and their first self-titled is worth tracking down. Uprise! has lots of clips of dialogue and interviews interspersed with the music, from the film I guess. All about the anti-apartheid struggle in SA. Mushroom Half Hour is a label worth keeping an eye on for contemporary SA Jazz
  7. Tumo Mogorosi - Project Elo [Jazzman, UK 2014] Spaza - Uprise! (Music from the Original Motion Picture) [Mushroom Half Hour, South Africa 2020] One of my favourite MJQs
  8. I guess this probably isn't the time and place to say that 'Elegant Soul' is the only Three Sounds album I've heard and I really like it...
  9. Really like that album. I bought it after @JSngrysang its praises a few years ago
  10. I agree, I've never thought of M-base/JMT as fusion. A lot of that was early in my Jazz listening so maybe that's why it's just Jazz to me
  11. A good number I really rate too. Love to hear that Smoke album, I really rate their other one
  12. First thought, high prices for originals...cult label collector premium Will be back with some other, hopefully more useful thoughts, about titles. Until then, a couple of absolute winners in my view Gunter Hampel Quintet - Heartplants Fats Sadi - Ensadinado
  13. Lots to be thankful for in the Enja catalogue
  14. Val Doonican Lord Cardigan Nate Wooley
  15. I enjoyed that compilation. Strut seem to be on a mission to reissue the Black Fire catalogue. Apart from the JuJu reissues I've not bitten yet so interesting to see what thoughts are shared here too.
  16. Can't believe I missed no.7, I've listened to the album at least twice whilst the BFT has been up. It's one of my favourites of the last couple of years no.11 makes complete sense too now. I only have one of his or the Pyramids' albums so maybe I have some excuse. But I have little excuse not getting the Bley and the Burton, both in my collection. I was a great selection
  17. Muriel Grossman - Union [RR GEMS, Estonia 2021] Ingfried Hoffman - Hoffman's Hammond Tales [Philips, Germany 1963] The New Elvin Jones Trio - Puttin' It Together [BN Liberty, 1968]
  18. Enjoyed both of these, must be ten years since I dug them out last
  19. I like that dungaree fact. I also like Rowland and Dexy's a lot, despite some of their sartorial choices.
  20. In that case, I need to hear this
  21. What's the wealth of her family got to do with her artistic talent or worth? Surely we're not insisting on the old poverty stricken artist in a garret equals proper art trope are we? Apart from anything the article talks about how she reacted to the wealth and status of her family
